I recently bought one of these along with a Trek Domane, and had already watched another of your (excellent) videos on Neo trainers when trying to get it set up - but I felt compelled to leave thanks here because not even a minute in, you've already provided far more information than Tacx themselves did. Here I was faffing about, failing to make their included adapter work with my thru-axle frame, when I should have just inserted the bike's own all along! The manuals for these are *terribly* lacking. So, thanks for all the other information - and the nifty factory shots! - but thanks too for explaining what the makers themselves did not see fit to. Made my evening. ;D
Shane, greetings from Ohio. Sorry I'm a little late to the party. I just wanted to let you know that your review was really phenomenal. Excellent work Sir.
Tacx reply to me saying i just bought the Neo 2, and that i was not happy "We are sorry to hear this. But the only difference is that you don't have to use the special thru axle adapter when your bike has 12 mm thru axles. So please do not worry you still have a very good trainer with all same support and firmware updates."
I’ve eventually become accustomed to the Neo tyre slip but I did try my Kickr out a while back and it’s just so smooth in comparison to the Neo. Kudos to Tacx for fixing this Achilles heel.
My New 2T arrived on Tuesday and I did my first ride on Wednesday. The powers numbers seemed to be -1/+1 against my favero Assioma duo power pedals. I say seemed because I didn’t use a overlay program to compare the data I just simply looked at the two screens while I rode. Overall I’m very happy with it. Also I was unable to get any wheel slip which is great. I’m not a sprinter by any means but I tried to get it to slip from short burst of power to about 1200 watts and it held firm. Also the erg mode felt a little more sudden then my kickr when it engages but not much difference there. Overall I like it better then the kickr.
Time for an updated version of this? Looking to get myself a trainer for the upcoming european winter, usually the top of the line is the way to go. But I can't say I'm very pleased with the results as shown. My NGeco would be more accurate, would love to see a 2021 review of the NEO 2T :)
Is ngeco showing bigger wattage numbers? I have same setup and p2max showing 5% bigger numbers. Tested in erg mode, smal chainring, straight chainline, clean chain etc. at 200 250 300 wats. P2max shows 5% bigger numbers.
I purchased a Tacx Neo 2 in February with the expectation that Tacx would be unleashing new tech through software or firmware updates over time. With the launch of the Neo 2T only a few months later, I wanted to reach out to someone who might have an inside scoop on whether we Neo 2 owners should expect to be screwed for new features, or if Tacx still intends to provide much anticipated releases like the road surface release they did with the original Neo. Thanks for your insight!
Tease :) NeoBike.... I want to retire my Neo1 just like you, will wait a little longer before going for the N2T, another great video... thanks Shane... and you don't look too tired for a new dad
We just got a new NEO2 T and both my wife and I immediately found it "Harder" (reading LOWER watts) than our usual bike mounted STAGES - so we just tested everything side by side and sure enough there is a 15-20 watt gap between the 2 sources (again with Neo reading LOWER). This is baffling to us for a couple of reasons and since I referred to this video as part of our shopping process I wanted to share this as your 1 critique was related to power accuracy! We have latest firmware installed on the new Neo2T, and using our freshly calibrated STAGES Power Meters & Stages APP, you can see a very consistent 15-20 watt difference. I was under the general impression that Smart Trainer (integrated) Power Meters would almost always read HIGHER (more generously) than any Bike Mounted Power Meter (True? False?) so this comes as a real surprise. My hunch: since the sole purpose of this new "T" model is to address the former slippage issue, perhaps they have somehow "overshot" with the base calibration in the process? IS there a way to calibrate this thing NEO2T or are we stuck with this reading? For now we have to continue using our STAGES power meters in order to ensure consistency with our data (we've been using our STAGES indoors and out for years now). Thoughts!?!?
@@gplama single sided - but we each have different strong and weak legs so one of us should be "high" and the other "low" when doubling Stages number, no? Even then, 20 watts is a monster gap IMO. For consistency sake we'll have to stick to our Stages for now - just can't believe its so far off!
Looks like it had the potential to be the gold standard, however at £1199 I’m now thinking that the Saris H3 at £849 is a misprint.... or an absolute steal 😊
I would love if TACX would add the functionallity "Align with powermeter". With that I'm mean make some kind of of alignment with my Quarq. I just can't take having two different wattages while riding indoor. Both PM's stating they're 1-1,5% accurate. However, the Quarq is the one I know and have been riding with the whole season. So that's what I know and are used to. Of course it should be able to reset the alignment; that is going back to factory setting. Maybe an idea to think a bit about... Maybe you can pass it on to Tacx...?! ;-)
@@gplama It's too late for me, since I recently made a rather impulsive purchase of the Tacx Neo 2T, but I'm wondering whether we should be concerned about what the author of this video had to say about the product. The TH-cam video can be found here (th-cam.com/video/qxZCoiAs7gI/w-d-xo.html). Specifically, he warns about a bearing in the Neo that fails in relatively short order, and the difficulty in getting satisfaction from Garmin/Tacx.
@@Edgar-uj9fh You're covered by warranty. As is Drew and his unit. They now have a replacement bearing/housing available too. I have no issues with the NEO2T at this point in time post a number of updates... but this is up to Garmin PR to deal with people making videos and claims such as this.
I love my Neo 2, hate the virtual tyre slip on the bonus climb in Zwift. Gutted and frustrated that a device that I've had 6 months is out of date and have to pay for a whole new unit to resolve issues. That being said I try not to let it ruin my new found love for indoor training. Great review again Shane
I'm in a far worse scenario, I bought the Neo 2 a month before the Neo 2T was launched LOL. I'm a casual cyclist and would specifically avoid elevated roads if i can so the the virtual tyre slip is not an issue with me. What i am unhappy about is that Tacx was made aware of this issue on the Neo 1 but still refused to rectify it on the Neo 2.
I was on the fence between Wahoo Kickr 2018 and Tacx Neo 2 but after pouring hours researching online, it seems that the Kickr 2018 has a lot of problems (even though they said it was fixed). There's people that are on their 3rd, 4th, and even 5th unit after the revised S/N. I was really hoping for Wahoo to announce a 2019/2020 model for EuroBike this week but apparently they were too busy developing the Kickr Bike. But since Tacx announced the Neo 2T and your review looks positive, I decided to place a pre-order at Clever Training. Now I just need to endure the outdoors for another month until it arrives. Thanks!
You did weel. I initially bought the wahoo but it died last week (speed sensor dead as forum's related, even if it was a gen2) so in I did a panic buy (covid crisis lockdown kind of panic) and bought the neo2t as finally I prefer a trainer off 10 watts and Wich always works than a perfect trainer but randomly dying every 1/6 month. Hope you are well
Hope they sort things out. I am glad they add native thru-axle connectivity. I have a Tacx neo 2 and a BMC Roadmachine. The thru-axle adapter doesn't work well with my bike. I ended up putting the lever on my drive side and my bike sometime hit the end cap on the other side.
@@poptheshield7205 I bought neo 2 when it was launched and has been using it for about 8 months. So far my bike hasn't broken lol but I do stay seated for the majority of the time and try not rock hard when standing. Hope u have fun on 2T 😁
Was hoping for a comment at the bottom from you Shame, giving us a heads-up of the rapid 2T firmware update from Tacx to fix the power discrepancy issue(s). But over a month, and still can't find anything. Is there another video detailing this. Or are we all still patiently waiting. (Haven't yet picked up on racers dropping a cat). Really appreciate the no holes barred objectivity (you and Ray) - such a breath of fresh air in our muddy e-world.
I'm, getting ready to order this. I believe they now have an adapter kit for 135 x 12 thru-axles (Part # S0040), which my 2015 Specialized Diverge Carbon Comp has.
Nitpickers Corner: When you compare accuracy of the Neo and Vector 3 you have to aggregate the error margins of both devices. So the difference in watts allowed is not 1% but 2%.
Assuming both are off by the maximal allowable percentage, in opposing directions. With the Vector 3 being two independent power meters, the chances of that happening to a maximum of 2% is... low. I'd think. Either way, this didn't match the performance of the Neo 1 across four pedal based meters, and two other crank power meters. Work still to be done I think.
is it worth the wait and extra $250? neo2 is on sale in my part of the world and ETA on 2t is sometimes between oct15 and first week of november. seems like you’re the only man who had the chance to ride both. tia.
This video was great. Not seen too many recently (shame on me) but the unboxing is fantastic and the nerdy but not too nerdy look at the internals was great to see. Doing a great job! Ordered one 5 minutes before your video but 5 minutes after the DCRainmaker one...... my guess and hope is that it will be sorted pretty sharpish. Now how much is a coplate for it? Lol
Sept 2015 Neo is launched. November 2018 (3yrs later) The Neo 2 (Which I own and love), Now only ten months later and after the Garmin Purchase there is a Neo2 T. What happened to the new features we promised with the Neo 2 or the addd ons??? or the development of Pedal stroke analysis, now there is a 2T???
Hi GPLama, What is the status of the Neo 2T new review ?? I guess it isn't comming afterall Or is it because there has been no updates from Tacx and hence a new test would be of no use ?? - Congrats on the TH-cam award. 100.000 subscribers and counting - well done !!
Awsome vid Shane! At 7:52 you mention the way the flywheel goes bananas when you wind things up and stop pedaling. What did you do to stop this? It really only started on my Neo 2 after I applied the .27 update. This morning I finished training and had my shoes and HRM off well before the flywheel stopped spinning. At one point I thought it was stuck in a simulated descent. Edit: It seems to hover around the 7km/hr mark for an extended period. I'm guessing that's to help with the slipping in the older units.
Yeah parallel magnets would have a bit of a flutter effect on the air within the unit. Angling the magnets is a very simple method to reduce the harmonics from that high speed flutter. Splitting hairs but at this price point you expect hairs to be split.
Have Tacx fixed the power numbers you found with the Neo 2t since you made this video. Thinking about getting one, but might get the Neo 2 instead if the numbers are still off.
Do you pair your power meter to the trainer. And just use the trainer residence and go off what your power meter says, or you got to keep it in erg mode
Is it just my imagination (or lingering PTSD), or can you faintly hear the "lingering metal shavings from the factory" sound at ~6:20, like my Neo 1 had for a while...??? (For the record: I like my Neo 1, and Tacx has been fantastic helping get thru axles sorted, nothing but class)
Could the difference in power reading be when the power is measured? Power measured at the pedals is like measuring an engine at the crankshaft, powered measured at the wheel factors in driveline losses.
That could account for a few %, maybe. If the readings were due to drivetrain loss then it doesn't explain why the same setup on the Neo 1 were almost perfect.
I've chosen my words carefully in the video. I've done 10 Lama Lab Tests with this unit using a number of different power meters. Out of courtesy I used the Vector 3 as my sample. The AssiomaDUO was also off - but I'm not going to dive into the specifics and try to defend a problem that's not mine. I'll await updates before publishing my final review/testing data.
@@christianoddono4345 No. I've given a quick look at a data set from a recent Lama Lab Test with updated 2T firmware here: th-cam.com/video/cYijrdlDJgk/w-d-xo.html
You mention inputting the rider weight in the utility app under device settings, can and should this be done with a Neo 1? Can’t see a device settings tab in the app? Thanks for the review.
Shane, would you buy a much lower priced NEO 2 or the Neo 2t? By the way: 12 speed didnt fit on the edco hub. First part of the cassette worked, but the rest didnt fit! Replacing the hub for 9-12 combatibel cfreehub isnt possible as far some bikeshops told me. Thanks.
Hi Shane, to change between qr and thru axle do you have to remove cassette? This could be a deal breaker as I am sharing trainer with Mrs Smith. I saw on your kickr and climb video the change between the two is much easier. Thanks for the great videos
The Neo requires tools to switch from TA to QR. I don't believe the cassette needs to come off for that. The Wahoo Kickrs are likely a much easier solution. Drop into a bike shop that sells them to have a look in person to make sure the process is what you're after (swapping from QR to TA easily, and back)
@@gplama Might be worth noting that Wahoo does not support 10x135 TA at all, and for the 2T you have to purchase an adapter separately; I have a kickr to send back now (doh). This is the axle size on my cross bike (2015 Rose DX).
Hi Shane, I was lucky to get my hands on a Neo 2T yesterday, even though everyone here are saying it is sold out. I went on and tested it against my Quarq DZero, after I had updated to the latest firmware. I got to almost the same conclusion as you. At low power ~130 watts, it is not far off, but as soon as I increase power, I see 10 watts difference or more. Is it a slope issue? If I compare my DZero with my Direto I also have a difference, but it is the same all the way. Is there any news from Tacx regarding your findings?
Hi Hans, I note your experience with interest, I am in the market for a new trainer and like the Neo series. I like you had a Direto and it had a 10% error for the entire range, and I broke belts. For your 2T you mention you updated to the latest firmware, was that 0.31? I only ask as DCR mentions in his trainer recommendation post "All three of these are accurate (notably so for me with the latest Tacx NEO 2T firmware 0.31)." Naturally it worries me that we continue to see such variations in such a high end unit.
@@acwna1 I have v. 0.0.32 and yesterday I did my own little test. First I tested my Direto up against my Quarq DZero. They have almost dead on, the same slope, but with a 10 watt difference all the way. The I did the same test with my Neo 2T against my DZero. That gave another picture, at 160 watts it showed 10 watts lover, and the difference increased all the way up to my highest measuring point 400 watts, where the delta was 32 watts. I have two instruments that has the same slope, and one that has its own, it is not wrong to assume that it is the Tacx Neo T2 that has a serious issue. As you say, I am surprised that such high priced high end products, can claim a +/- 1% accuracy and getting away, not delivering on that one important parameter. www.zwiftpower.com/analysis.php? set_id=3725 www.zwiftpower.com/analysis.php?set_id=3727
@@hansjessentube Hi, kudos for carrying out the analysis (and for your reply). Your analysis appears to show two different error profiles 1) the constant delta error (~10 watts) and 2) the proportional error (~10%). Which I find interesting and frustrating at the same time. Obviously there are traps regarding calibrating and offsets (which I am sure you are aware of), and I am sure you have had people say that there are drive train losses between the Quarq DZero and the respective trainers, but to see two different behaviours suggests that that is not quite the issue here. And I agree your Quarq is the constant here. I only had one trainer (the Direto) to carry out a comparison and found a 10% error with the Powertap P1 pedals. However I did compare my Powertap P1 with a Powertap Hub and they were very closely matched - this somewhat ruled out the drive train loss excuse for me, but naturally raises the Powertap software methods as a potential variation. Nonetheless my P1 pedal versus Direto was exactly what GPLama did in his review video of the Direto (th-cam.com/video/cNhwva_6Mss/w-d-xo.html) His review showed power figures that matched exactly, but mine were out by 10%. The belt failures I suffered were surely linked. This actually raises other questions, I see reviewers get perfect alignment, give a trainer a thumbs up and then see heaps of users complaining of errors and faults. A 1-2% error does not allow for such discrepancies, surely. Again thanks for your reply and I will watch for any replies from Shane. Cheers Adam
I have a similar results on fw. 0.32 forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/indoor-training/f/tacx-neo-2t-898484771/207176/tacx-neo-2t-fw-0-32-vs-power2max-power-accuracy
Hi Shane. I've got a new 2t. I did have a kickr bit had issues. My question is the kickr seemed to be alot smoother on erg. Mode held the Watts within 1 or 2 Watts had a nice smooth line on zwift. But my neo has a bumpy line and power fluctuates between 10 and 20 Watts maybe more.
Were you using ERG Power Smoothing on the Kickr? That is enabled by default and will show an artificial flat line when in ERG. Power will bounce up and down depending on how smooth you are. The 2T is a little rougher than the Kickr.... Also update the 2T with the latest firmware (0.32 I believe).
Hi Shane, is there any updates on this review? Have the issues been sorted and are you now using this unit for testing to replace your old Tacx? Cheers.
I'm still not overly impressed with the 2T numbers. I need to look at replacing the flywheel/bearing assembly (for no reason other than to tinker) and see how things line up after that. My go-to trainers for power comparative testing are the DiretoXR and Kickr 5 at present.
@@gplama damn I really wanted to buy the 2T as it looks so cool and for the road/gravel feel. I guess I should stick with my first thought and buy the Wahoo Kickr 5 - cheaper as it comes with a cassette. Thanks for the feedback.
@Shane Miller - GPLama Hello Shane! We road together a few times on zwift, been since winter 2014 👍 Quick question if I may? What are your concerns with the neo2t as it sits now?(you say it’s a work in progress) just wondering because I own one, and my only concern is Power May or may not be a smidge low? Thx again GP - Ride On
@@dopefish90five It's a work in progress in the Lama Lab. I believe Tacx have sorted the accuracy of the 2T .... and the power meters on my bike are tried and tested (and trusted). I'm working though a few variables that could be causing a few missing watts I'm seeing. It's quite the project behind the scenes. I'll cover this when I get my two feed back on the ground in the Lama Lab.
I bought a Neo 2 nearly a year ago on the understanding it would provide L/R balance. I am still waiting for a firmware update for this! The cadence data is very unstable and resembles an ECG graph. The cadence on the Neo 1 was 99% reliable. Will there ever be a firmware update for the Neo 2? Will all that extra EEPROM memory for future updates go unused? Will Tacx provide a firmware update that provides it with the promised improvements of the Neo 2T?
@@gplama Thanks. What I don't understand is: If the Tacx is already broadcasting Power/Cadence/Speed data in Open Ant+/BLE standards, I presume it would be simple to re-code to add the L/R balance data under the standard heading?!
@@averyhillroad235 Yep, and that's what they've done. The problem is the Neo2/2T doesn't really know true left and right, so the numbers may not represent the real L/R balance.
Hey Shane! No more word on inaccuracy issues on 2T from Tacx eh? Did you give up on them or did they give up on the issue? $1300 last year and I’m still power matching from my other power meter it’s kind of sad!
@@gplama Oh interesting! Missed that one since I wasn't paying attention to the UCI WC. Looks like I'll be running another power comparison test with my PM's then. Last time I ran it was 0.0.34 and didn't bother with the latest one since they made no claims of fixing the power issues. However I do realize announcing / claiming fixing a power accuracy issue wouldn't be great marketing on their part ;P
Thinking about buying one now? Would you recommend or are there still issues with the power readings? Or is there a new model just about to be released?
They seem to have their calibration/QA/QC sorted now days. No idea if they have anything new on the cards. (And I don’t leak information if there was any to leak).
I have the same power difference issue with the Neo2 compared to the Vector 3. Constant offset of 16 watts. and in the lower power range it could be even higher.
Tacx claims 142mm thru axle compatibility but then is providing a 2.7mm spacer because the rear caliper touches the unit. This effectively turns the trainer into a 144.7mm which is off with most current disc bikes of 142mm which as a consequence creates several problems (misalingned chainline, thru axle that does not attach entirely, tension in the rear trinagle of the bike - especially for those carbon bikes). Any comments on that? Thanks
I’ve been watching the comments posted everywhere on this in the last few weeks. I don’t have to use the spacers on the TCR. The 144.7mm ‘solution’ doesn’t sound ideal. I’ll leave it to Tacx Support to address this. There’s nothing I can contribute further, it’s their issue to resolve.
@@gplama Thanks for prompt response, I have the SRAM force AXS with power meter and I see the cycling dynamics on the edge 820 whilst riding, but its not available on Garmin connect?
In the review you note some side to side wiggle. My 2T is very rigid, although I wish it did have some wiggle, especially when I stand. I noticed in your video that there are times when the leg locks are showing red (unlocked) and times when showing blue (locked). I'm amazed that the leg didn't fold and make for an ugly incident. Is that perhaps where you're getting the wiggle?
@@tonixpto1 no, I have zero issues with the cadence sensor. It works perfectly and matches the data from my Assioma pedals. The power also matches the pedals. I got a Neo because I wanted the road feel, and it only made sense to go with the newest model. The magnets on the 2T are in a much improved configuration and are considerably stronger. The road feel is awesome. If you have it turned on in Zwift, you can feel when on gravel/dirt, you feel the bricks or cobbles, you feel the wooden bridges, etc. I highly recommend the 2T.

Hi Shane, I am a light rider and descents on simulators are unrealistic. -4% and still having to put in decent wattage to go 22mph!! does the Neo downhill drive make downhill speeds more realistic or just stop the flywheel from slowing down? Not sure whether to get a Neo 2 or Wahoo Kickr
Have you come accross any overheating issues, or other big issues, on the NEO 2T or the wahoo kickr? Cannot make up my mind which one to purchase in 2022.... Coming from a kickr snap (its just getting up there in years/miles), i'm to cheap for the fancy wahoo fan ( walmart boxfan $18) or the wahoo climb (i'll just lean back and forward for that price!).
So if you have 2 bikes, one with thru-axles and 1 with quick release, you need to remove the cassette and install the correct adapter each time you swap bikes?
What about bike weight , need to do that too right . Also I got a giant tcr and I had the bike shop out a 32 on the neo, then I brought it hone and can’t even get my bike on it . It’s like the back forks of my bike or to narrow. Anyway I got get to a bike shop ASAP
Shane, Just purchased the Neo 2T. I’ve put a 10 speed cassette on with the 1mm spacer behind the cassette. Is that all it needs, I’ve heard/listened to contrasting views recommending an extra 1mm spacer? Thoughts Also when I’m tightening up the lock ring it makes a grinding noise whilst it rubs on the last cog before it tightens completely, is this normal.
Tried that already, the person was hopeless. It’s a shimano Tiagra 10 speed. From what journals and videos I’ve gone through, Taxc doesn’t suggest anything else other than a 1mm spacer. I’m a novice with this, my first smart trainer. Just want to get started 👍🏻

Shane - from your experience are there any differences in terms of noise, performance and/or shifting quality between using a Shimano 105, ultegra or Dura Ace cassette and chain?
I want to believe Ultegra/DA feel and sound a little better... but I'm sure it's just me trying to justify the extra money spent. An Ultegra cassette is quieter than a SRAM PG-50 or whatever is supplied on the Kickr... As for performance. No difference watt for watt.
I thought the Neo2 had it.... I'm not sure. What software are you using that requires it? Most training software have implemented support for each trainer without FTMS.
@@gplama Neo1 does not. I contacted tech support last week asking about it and they said they were 'working on it'. I am using Xert software; it is amazing.
maybe a stupid question, but.......is there any difference in reality as on this test, the difference in power on the crank vs on the wheel(casette-tackx) as it is in cars? some loss because of the chain?
Hi Shane, I can't seem to find the follow up for this initial review, can you help me? I strongly consider to purchase this hometrainer, but I would like to know if they have sorted the issues you bring in this review. Thank you :) Kind regards Tobias
What are the hacks? I bought one last week and the rpm constantly drops to 0 or dosnt even start up at all! Contacted tacx support and all they told me to do was take it back to the dealer 😤
@@DelBoy573 Tape a paperclip or small metal object to the inside of the left crank arm to extend it rearward. That will trip the cadence sensor which is placed too far back.
David Bowes By golly it works! Thank you 🙏 Now why couldn’t tacx support of told me that? No attempt at trouble shooting whatsoever. Just ‘take it back to the shop’. All that would of happened there is the same problem repeating with the next model. Looks like it’s time to throw a few fucks into someone at tacx.
Had my TacxNeoT2 four months before it broke, it was returned to the manufacture via the retail place I bought it from. After two weeks I had an email saying my money had been refunded due to the trainer could not be repaired and no explanation what was wrong. I won’t be buying a replacement TacxNeoT2, my lock down was ruined as there’s no trainers out there to buy yet.
Is there a list of firmware updates and release notes for each? Are power numbers more closely aligned after the .32 release? I’m seeing the Neo 2T reporting about 10% low. I just updated to .32 after riding today so fingers crossed.
jouni holsius thanks I believe I saw your post on the Garmin forums. 5% low for me at 360 watts (18 watts) is just not acceptable. Hopefully it’s at least closer than what it was on the old firmware. I run a PT hub on the TT bike on the road so I’m hoping the delta post FW upgrade is in the 3-4% range for now.
I just bought the 2T. Haven't even set it up yet. Looking around on Garmin & Tacx sites I can't find this answer: Any idea if this has Cycling Dynamics enabled yet via firmware?
When you use the trainer without any device or app connected, how the trainer works? What's the name of that mode? How is the resistance, and the speed simulated?
Same as Neo1 (revision 2) and Neo 2. No issues on the Giant TCR (is't snug but fits). Clearance will depend on bike type and frame size. I'd test 'mount' one at a bike shop if unsure.
Hey Shane, great video , some info i can't really find anywhere and i am new at this. What do you do with your disc brake on these trainers, do you lock them out with the plastic clip thingy so you don't accidentally push them or do you trust yourself just not to hit the brakes for any reason? or is there another way? thx
Is it normal that in lower speeds or at the beginning that it isn't fluent and works with a very low vibration ? I feel all the time a vibration in my feet.
Just wondering, I’ve changed the cassette on my Tacx Neo from a 11 speed to a 12 speed, I’m now getting a rubbing noise and the chain is jumping from the biggest gear. Will l have to change the rear hub to stop the noise etc?

Tacx reply to me saying i just bought the Neo 2, and that i was not happy
"We are sorry to hear this.
Thanks!! I'm in the market for a new trainer. I was looking at the Neo 2. I'll wait for you updates on the 2T to see which one to go for.
I’d wait for the final review thank you for the honesty.
Great, well presented & honest overview, thx Shane.
Great little easter egg on the Tacx Neo Bike 🤣🤣🤣
Tease :) NeoBike.... I want to retire my Neo1 just like you, will wait a little longer before going for the N2T, another great video... thanks Shane... and you don't look too tired for a new dad
Thanks Shane for another stellar review! Glad I waited and going to pull the trigger with fall/winter season around the corner.
This is really useful in terms of the initial setup. I got my Neo 2T today, and it's still in the original box. Looking forward to unboxing!
What is your experience?
Does it have a production date on the item?
@@czts4778 I can't find a manufacturing date anywhere on my Neo 2T (both the unit and the retail box). It's only the serial number.
Stages dual or single sided?
@@gplama single sided - but we each have different strong and weak legs so one of us should be "high" and the other "low" when doubling Stages number, no? Even then, 20 watts is a monster gap IMO. For consistency sake we'll have to stick to our Stages for now - just can't believe its so far off!
Looks like it had the potential to be the gold standard, however at £1199 I’m now thinking that the Saris H3 at £849 is a misprint.... or an absolute steal 😊
Still no carry handle. Fear not, I'm fixing that as we speak
Maybe you can pass it on to Tacx...?! ;-)
Simple solution, use one source only:)
Finally virtual tyre slip fixed! (You just have to buy a new Neo lol)
Or you could buy a Kickr? 🤷🏻♂️😉
Great point on “where is that Neo Bike”!
It’s shipping now. No sign of one in the Lama Lab though.
Awesome review / analysis!
I ended up putting the lever on my drive side and my bike sometime hit the end cap on the other side.
my scott foil disc had the same issue with neo 2 so I returned it and got a refund. Waiting on the release of the 2t now.
That’s a good question.

Perfectly true Shane, let‘s all hope Tacx can sort it out. Keep up the good work! Thanks!
is it worth the wait and extra $250? neo2 is on sale in my part of the world and ETA on 2t is sometimes between oct15 and first week of november. seems like you’re the only man who had the chance to ride both.
tia.
This I’m gonna get, have the original neo i’m and very happy with it, but I do have a thru axle bike.

Good questions for Tacx.
Hi GPLama, What is the status of the Neo 2T new review ?? I guess it isn't comming afterall Or is it because there has been no updates from Tacx and hence a new test would be of no use ?? - Congrats on the TH-cam award. 100.000 subscribers and counting - well done !!
No major changes as yet. There's a beta firmware in testing... Update soon. I hope.
The Tacx Neo 1 is already virtually silent....
The Neo 1/2 has a bit of a whistle to it at higher flywheel speeds. Then again at high speeds/watts so do we (and the fans we use to keep cool).
Yeah parallel magnets would have a bit of a flutter effect on the air within the unit. Angling the magnets is a very simple method to reduce the harmonics from that high speed flutter. Splitting hairs but at this price point you expect hairs to be split.
@@gplama Yeap I can honestly say my dirty chain and industrial fan combo is a lot louder than the Neo 1 itself :D :D
are the problems fixed? would you recommend a Neo 2 today?
jack Duplechain I’m keen to know also.
Have Tacx fixed the power numbers you found with the Neo 2t since you made this video. Thinking about getting one, but might get the Neo 2 instead if the numbers are still off.
Still chasing the kind of numbers I see on the NEO 1. Stay tuned... maybe.
Have the issues with lower power readings been addressed yet?
I’m keen to know also.
Is there any way to retrofit the new native thru-axle support from the 2T to the previous Neo 2?
No
Do you pair your power meter to the trainer.
Sure is. There was a few ‘ticks’ before it went away after a few minutes use. No problem after that.
I assumed you have compared it with the favero assioma? Maybe the data from vector 3 was off?
I've chosen my words carefully in the video. I've done 10 Lama Lab Tests with this unit using a number of different power meters. Out of courtesy I used the Vector 3 as my sample. The AssiomaDUO was also off - but I'm not going to dive into the specifics and try to defend a problem that's not mine. I'll await updates before publishing my final review/testing data.
Was assioma duo off or the tacx neo is off?
@@gplama Hey Shane, have you published the data of the 10 Lama Lab Tests?

Shane, would you buy a much lower priced NEO 2 or the Neo 2t? By the way: 12 speed didnt fit on the edco hub. First part of the cassette worked, but the rest didnt fit! Replacing the hub for 9-12 combatibel cfreehub isnt possible as far some bikeshops told me. Thanks.
I wouldn’t buy anything older than a 2T.
Drop into a bike shop that sells them to have a look in person to make sure the process is what you're after (swapping from QR to TA easily, and back)
@@gplama Thanks for the swift reply
Hi Hans,
I note your experience with interest, I am in the market for a new trainer and like the Neo series. I like you had a Direto and it had a 10% error for the entire range, and I broke belts.
For your 2T you mention you updated to the latest firmware, was that 0.31? I only ask as DCR mentions in his trainer recommendation post "All three of these are accurate (notably so for me with the latest Tacx NEO 2T firmware 0.31)."
Naturally it worries me that we continue to see such variations in such a high end unit.

Cheers
Adam

So should I buy this now or kickr

I bought a Neo 2 nearly a year ago on the understanding it would provide L/R balance. I am still waiting for a firmware update for this!

Will there ever be a firmware update for the Neo 2? Will all that extra EEPROM memory for future updates go unused?
Will Tacx provide a firmware update that provides it with the promised improvements of the Neo 2T?
They did release a firmware the other day for the Neo2 for L/R... but.... I don't think it's quite ready.

I have the same power difference issue with the Neo2 compared to the Vector 3. Constant offset of 16 watts. and in the lower power range it could be even higher.
Contact Tacx.

Try a local bike shop if one is nearby.
Shane, question. I have a neo1. It’s struggling finding gears. I have a disc brake ultegra di2 and it shifts perfectly on my rear wheel but struggles on the trainer. Any ideas?
One for a mechanic to look at. Sometime there’s magic required only they can solve.
Hi Shane, First of: GREAT work. Are you planning a new review, to see of things are looking better ??
I'm working through a few things in the Lama Lab with the 2T. I'll publish the results when ready.
@@gplama Not to push, you - good work takes time. For my own purchase planning ;) Could you give a rough estimate on when it will be available ??
Henrik Pedersen A lot of us are waiting an update of Shane Miller power accuracy issue with last firmware ..... Hope this will come very very soon
@@bernardcauwenberghs3559 There's a lot of work going on away from the camera/TH-cam... which is an increasing trend these days. I'll publish an update when I have updated (better!) results from the Lama Lab Tests.
Hi Shane, First things first Enjoying your videos and in depth work 👍. What is the status of the Neo 2T new review ?? Is it too hot down under to be working on it 😉
It’s on the cards to loop back too. It’s hot here, so lots of riding outside. I’m giving the 2019 range of trainers time to cool-off :)
@@gplama Ohh but people from Europe don't know if it is worth buying ;) we still have some minus temps here!
How is the neo 2t now. Is it more accurate
Hi Shane. No garmin sticker on the box or the trainer? that surprised me
The box has "Tacx - A Garmin Company" on it.
Have the power accuracy issues been resolved?
It’s been a while. I think they ended up sending three units of varying accuracy. IIRC one of them was within spec.
😬….. well that’s not promising. I have one on the way hopefully it’s one of the good ones 🤞🏻
@@NeonGrayEdits They should have them all sorted by now. What's interesting is there's a 'stop-sell' on these here in Australia and Garmin won't say why. Very strange....
Hi, do you have any upate on the NEO 2T?
None yet. I'm still not happy enough with the numbers I'm seeing from it. Work in progress.....
Shane Miller - GPLama can you use the quarq power meter instead? I would rather keep my numbers consistent indoors and outdoors
Thanks a lot! Did you experience any problems with your rear disc brake caliper on the N2T being to close to the housing? Or noticed any changes? Thanks!!
Same as the Neo2. Clearance was close on the TCR, but no problem.
Shane Miller - GPLama did you put the spacer in place?
Shane - from your experience are there any differences in terms of noise, performance and/or shifting quality between using a Shimano 105, ultegra or Dura Ace cassette and chain?
I want to believe Ultegra/DA feel and sound a little better... but I'm sure it's just me trying to justify the extra money spent. An Ultegra cassette is quieter than a SRAM PG-50 or whatever is supplied on the Kickr... As for performance. No difference watt for watt.
Great review Shane! Do you think FTMS will be made available as firmware update to the NEO1 and 2?
I thought the Neo2 had it.... I'm not sure. What software are you using that requires it? Most training software have implemented support for each trainer without FTMS.
@@gplama Neo1 does not. I contacted tech support last week asking about it and they said they were 'working on it'. I am using Xert software; it is amazing.
maybe a stupid question, but.......is there any difference in reality as on this test, the difference in power on the crank vs on the wheel(casette-tackx) as it is in cars? some loss because of the chain?
Thanks for the insight.
Is there a new Kickr also ?
Im not looking forward to talk with garmin support about a bad designed neo2t
Nope, no new version of the kickr. I just got a reply from wahoo customer support.
Hi Shane,
I can't seem to find the follow up for this initial review, can you help me? I strongly consider to purchase this hometrainer, but I would like to know if they have sorted the issues you bring in this review. Thank you :)
Kind regards Tobias
Power looks to be in-line now with recent updates. See my quick reference to this here: th-cam.com/video/cYijrdlDJgk/w-d-xo.html
@@gplama thank you :) great review by the way!
I have a canyon endurance 8.0 di2. What tools are required for the installation of the bike on the trainer?
I'm not familiar with that bike. This is one for Garmin/Tacx Support.
I've been seeing complaints that the cadence sensor isn't working and there are hacks but have you noticed any issues?
I don’t believe Tacx publish these anywhere other than in their app, and only when there’s an update.
Thanks for the quick reply. I’m a TT guy so if this trainer is consistently out even 5% I’m returning it.
@@chrispyy606060606 My own setup neo 2t reports lower wattage numbers than my power2max ng eco, It´s 5-4% out , whole range. FW 0.32, new FW wanted.
jouni holsius thanks I believe I saw your post on the Garmin forums. 5% low for me at 360 watts (18 watts) is just not acceptable. Hopefully it’s at least closer than what it was on the old firmware. I run a PT hub on the TT bike on the road so I’m hoping the delta post FW upgrade is in the 3-4% range for now.
Firmware update worked! It’s much much closer now.
I just bought the 2T. Haven't even set it up yet. Looking around on Garmin & Tacx sites I can't find this answer: Any idea if this has Cycling Dynamics enabled yet via firmware?
Not that I’m aware of.
When you use the trainer without any device or app connected, how the trainer works? What's the name of that mode? How is the resistance, and the speed simulated?
Level mode I believe.
Hi Shane , is there a rider weight limit for these units - thanks
125kg I believe. Tacx should have that listed if you want to confirm.
@@gplama Thankyou
Would you reccomend getting a spare thru axle for use with the tacx neo?
Not really required.
Shane, how is the clearance for the rear disc caliper?
Same as Neo1 (revision 2) and Neo 2. No issues on the Giant TCR (is't snug but fits). Clearance will depend on bike type and frame size. I'd test 'mount' one at a bike shop if unsure.
What prevents us from using native thru axle on the regular neo 2? I don’t fully understand why that isn’t possible?
The diameter of the axle centre. It's built for a QR.
Thank you for the review. I found it a little bit inconclusive. Does it deserve to pay more for the NEO 2T over the NEO 2 that now is cheaper?
That's because as it ships today, it is inconclusive. We're still waiting for updated firmware to resolve the ERG and accuracy issues.
Shane Miller - GPLama ok, let's say the new update will fix all the bug's, the question remains: does Neo 2t worth the 250€ over the Neo 2?
@@Dragos02 The stronger brake (no virtual slip) and thru-axle support make it worth it, imo.
Shane Miller - GPLama neo 2t or wahoo kickr?
Hey Shane, great video , some info i can't really find anywhere and i am new at this. What do you do with your disc brake on these trainers, do you lock them out with the plastic clip thingy so you don't accidentally push them or do you trust yourself just not to hit the brakes for any reason? or is there another way?
thx
I put in a disc spacer.
That’s one for Garmin/Tacx support.
Hi Shane, any updates on the reviewing of NEO 2T?
Not yet. I have a beta firmware for it that I'm waiting for them to release to the public.
@@gplama - thanks mate, looking forward to it. 0.0.34 Firmware still seems to be inaccurate based on my Stages Power Meter testing and comparison.
Zwift has Power Matching, but Sufferfest has been working on Power Matching for a few years now, which is my preferred structured training App. They are yet to come up with it.
@@frankmarzan7421 Stages L/R or just L?
Shane Miller - GPLama just Single L, but wouldn't expect more than 3-4% out which in this case can be 8-9% specially on the higher watts (well my higher watts anyway :))
Is the Beta Firmware you have post 0.0.34? Have you tested it yet? Or are you still waiting for it from Garmin?
Hi. I switched out the adapters with the 142x12 and have misplaced the original adapters for ehe ordinary QR. I can’t find a source for these. Any links would be appreciated.
Ping Tacx (or Garmin) support.
Shane Miller - GPLama thanks for that. I’ll ty Garmin again. Trying to get hold of their support is a bit o a chicken and egg. Much obliged for the response.
Greetings from Spain. I'm interested in replicating my own gps tracks on the roller. I know this is possible, at least in Bkool ... Do you know if Tacx or Elite (are the two brands that interest me) can do this? For example, go to your Garmin Connect, select a route of yours and replicate it on the roller?
Thanks in advance.
