  • In this episode, I am replacing the water bay door and repairing some body damage on a Newmar Dutch Star. I hit a rock and severely damaged the water bay door, which I had to replace. It also impacted the body trim that surrounds the rear tire.

There is really not much to it. There is little alignment required, it was a pretty good fit on the first install.

What ever happened to the old door you took off. I need one to experiment on. I've got 5 bay doors that have varying amounts of delamination on our 03 Newmar DSDP snd I need to figure out a way to disassemble those doors. They are screwed and glued together(I think Newmar said with Stika adhesive caulk. I tried taking the 2nd door on the pass. side apart by just removing all the screws in the extruded aluminum frame but it wouldn't budge as far as separating the indoor plastic liner the styrofoam and the outer plastic or filon layer with the finish paint on it and I didn't want to risk damaging the paint. Its literally in perfect shape as it spends most of it's time in our 24 X 50 RV garage. I do have some of that clearcoat cancer you were talking about, Thanks T.R.

Thrown away. I tried to take it apart, it was impossible. I think I have some video, un-published of me trying to take it apart. I'll look for it and send you a private link if I can find it. Look for that in the morning Rick.

T.R. Where did you get the custom match paint in a rattle can. Was it a one part or two part paint? Was the clear coat in a spray can as well? We lost the water heater door on a trip about a year ago (ours is a 2003 Dutch Star 3804 D.P. same color scheme as yours pretty much . I bought the W.H. door from Newmar and got a good match from Sherwin Williams automotive paint. Was a bit pricey but an excellent match using the paint numbers located in the kitchen cabinets. I'm still trying to find info on taking those bay doors apart as I have 5 of them with some mild delamination and want to fix it but the paint is perfect so I'm hoping not to have to buy the doors. Thanks for posting, I miss your RV videos, I need to go back and watch your rehab of the truck camper. Safe travels.

Local body supply shop that could mix custom colors and put them in spray cans. One part and the clear coat mixed with the paint. I didn't mention it but even though I took the water bay door to the store for matching, it still took a couple tries to get the color to match.
