Spanish is different in all Latin America, but I usually say "disculpe" before every question. It means pardon me also I would suggest use "usted" instead of "tu". And always say "gracias".

"Quiero" means "I want" and like you say it might sound a little rude or demanding. You can use "Quisiera" that means "I Would like".
