- ■ MEXICO CITY: I've gone shopping in some wild markets in my day. From the Haputale market in Sri Lanka where the Yes Man would not leave me alone, to Cusco's central market in Peru and Mumbai's Dharavi slum. Iv'e seen it all.... or so I thought. Coz never have I seen a a market like the one I stumbled upon today in the centre of Mexico City.
Sprawled out in a traffic intersection which is very much open for cars and motorbikes at all times, this market has everything from counterfeit perfumes to face-masks, dumbells and a live mariachi band.
But that isn't what makes it the most entertaining market in the world. The fact that it can all vanish in the span of 20 seconds is responsible for that.....

@@Monaghan native culture is a pretty relative thing though. I mean, almost no European country has their first original peoples culture anymore. England doesn't because of the French and Viking invasions, Southern Europe doesn't have their original culture because of the Romans, Eastern Europe was conquered by Slavs etc. etc. Cultures change all the time as a result of migrations or wars or just cultural borrowings.

I'm assuming that different cops get bribed by different vendors so when this particular group of vendors saw the cops approaching the intersection, they picked everything up until they could confirm whether or not they were friendlies.
@@xCaptxCrunchx a special unit of cops called "granaderos" aka granadiers comes in a big truck and whatever they throw everything that they can reach in the truck because these vendors aren't permited. So they have look outs that warn them whenever they come.

The fact that he kept saying that the perfumes were stolen was to highlight that they're originals from retail stores and not some knockouts made in an underground lab.

Maybe stolen knock off BUT these guy often have to either pay cops, or some organized group taxes so that being a lie would not make sense. Commercial trucks, rvs and trains get hit alot in mexico even, coca-cola and beer companies, piracy dvds, cds, games are so common the police can't fight it anymore they only fight what they can extort or are told specially to fight. I highly recommend visiting the ancient site of Teotihuacan while you're there. It's only about 11 miles northeast of Mexico city.

My beautiful Mexico, most surrealistic place In the world
I used to be really confused when I first moved to Mexico because I would always try to order food or whatever and they would often come back with what sounded exactly like "Monday?". The first few times I thought they were actually saying to come back on Monday. Which was strange because they were obviously open on that day.
But after like a year I finally figured out that what they were saying was "Mande?" which basically just means a polite way to say "what?" or "what do you need?".
Also I will say that when I lived in the tourist area, those Mariachi bands may be sort of fun for a day, but after a few months they become the bane of your existence. Especially the ones that have a tuba player, which to me sounds like a fart noise.

There's no tuba players in mariachi bands maybe you are mistaking them with Banda Music.
