Moral of the story - a real artist has the skill and technique to work in any style asked of him, yet also possesses a strong vision of his own. What an inspiring video.
It’s amazing to hear these artists talk about all of the fundamentals we all still learn. Like of course, they’re fundamentals. But hearing these masters talk about “blocking in” and silhouette, and the one who didn’t want too much details. This is a great showing of entirely different styles and like every style out there from low detail to high :)
I've learned in this 15 minute video more then my 12 years of art classes in school ever taught me. The only thing school ever taught me was that I suck, without ever explaining to me how to paint or draw.
I definitely recognize Eyvand Earle and Mark Davis' styles in their paintings of the tree. However, their individual styles also come into the film, and it makes the film better because of their individual contributions.
Every so often I look this video up and rewatch it. It is so engaging. I think the black and white one is my favorite, but that gnarled closed up of the trunk is a close second.
Imagine having these four on your wall! Oh well, some day...when I somehow become a bajillionaire. Love them all, love this video, love this concept!!!
I think Josh Medows got cheated in this recording. Film can't do his work proper justice as it makes it flat and the colors blend. You get a true idea of how good that painting is if you pause about 14:52 and he holds it in the light at a slight angle and suddenly the whole painting pops with texture and life.
Walt: My Word It looks to be one of our fine artists neglected to mention he did a little micro dosing this morning, and here is his interpretation of a tree 14:35
Great paintings and it's wonderful to see them unfold.. I realise it's a time capsule of how we were but the misogyny still irks me as a female painter. How many females were denied opportunities to create and contribute at that time. It's all men, men, men... sigh.
thank you, exactly this! i was about to say the same thing you did. i am glad and cautiously optimistic though, that we now live in an era where, at least, *some* progress has been made compared to back then.

Eyvind Earle is unreal. What I wouldn’t give to have any one of his pieces of artwork. 💜
Eyvind Earle's art is mind-blowing.

“Paint an idea” wish Disney still did that.
Walt Perigoy was a real fun personality! I worked with him at Marvel productions. He had such great stories... he’s such a Legend. God Bless Walt.

This is one of the greatest art lessons I have ever received in my life. Thank you for sharing.
I love hearing their process, as an artist I felt exactly the same way. Such skill in all of them!
I like the way Eyvind Earle does texture.
This is always so inspiring for me to watch... It just makes me want to DRAW!!!
Joshua Meador's painting of the tree looks VERY Vincent Van Gogh-like.

Four great Disney artists approach the same subject - Walt Peregoy, Josh Meador, Eyvind Earle, Marc Davis.
this is why AI will not win when it comes to Art....just something things we like creating our selfs its satisfying and peaceful
this is great
That proves how anyone can draw
they just have to find the style they like
Any one of these artists could have drawn a photorealistic tree if they wished. What makes them excel is that they have a proper artistic foundation
I wonder what became of these paintings?
An all time classic video
Love Walt Peregoy's painting, definitely the least traditional of the 4, the most intrguing of the 4 imo.
this was awesome to watch and learn from thanks!
Their hairstyles really be trending right now lol
Imagine having these four on your wall! Oh well, some day...when I somehow become a bajillionaire. Love them all, love this video, love this concept!!!
I love the detailed narration of these painters seeing there uniek view and way of working
Thankyou so much for uploading this!
Fckin amazing.
Beyond words
This is from "Walt Disney's Disneyland" (1954-1958)
Anyone knows if it was ever released in DVD, LD, BR anything?
It is usually included in most of the Sleeping Beauty releases.
Thank you for sharing. This needs to be sought after, archived and shared. This is such an incredible piece.

josh meador
An idea.
Television had a lot more to offer in 1958. And Disney was leading edge.
Anyone notice they use Black wing pencils? So the legends are true
Yes 😂
Sad to see what's become of Disney, Walt is spinning in his grave
My hometown is 30 minutes away from Joshua Meador's birthplace.

You should read “Ink & Paint: The Women of Walt Disney's Animation”.
Watching this, I love their beautiful work. I can't help but to think of the type of man Walt was and the enviroment of the time and feel sad too.
