The 7 Penitential Psalms for the Souls in Purgatory

The Seven Penitential Psalms have long been perceived as David's weeping of repentance for his sins against Bathsheba and Uriah, as well as for his other sins. As we pray these psalms, let us think of how we to weep in repentance for the sins we have committed in our life but let us also remember the souls in purgatory who weep day and night but no longer can pray for themselves. Pope Innocent III recommended that these psalms be prayed during the days of Lent. If they cannot be prayed on each day of Season, they can at a minimum be prayed on Lenten Fridays. One kneels when praying these psalms, begins and ends with an antiphon and prays a Gloria between each psalm. This is a wonderful and fruitful way to pray on behalf of the souls in purgatory.
