The common housecat is maybe the top predator on Earth. They are incredible hunters. They did not get this way because they are dumb. They also have an amazing ability to observe things.
@@SpaceTravel1776 Yup it is true. A well fed house cat has a catch and kill percentage of about 90%. The very best of the big cats only catch and kill about 25% of the prey that they chase. Cats hunt about 30,000 different species if you include insects. lions and Tigers have about a dozen things they go after. A house cat can get just about anything that is it's size or smaller. They generally do not go after bigger prey, but most hunting animals don't do that either.
@@robinblackmoor8732 This isn't true and lions are very lazy predators. They often follow around hyenas and other breeds of african dogs to "steal" their kills, leading to large confrontations. Being so large, lions exert a lot of energy which is why they're often resting for most of the day. It's just so exhausting to do this. This is why they'll steal kills. It saves energy. Energy they might need for something else later. Smart yes but top predator... There is no "top" predator but a group of them. The first most commonly listed is the Nile crocodile while the second is the polar bear. Pythons and Tasmanian devils also get a shot at this list but the problem is... Each animal has a note to why they're not as fierce as you think they are and the numbers are a bit exaggerated. The same is with your common house cat. Perhaps you'd refresh your knowledge with the more current redactions on house cats?
Somehow she needs a good food that keeps her feeling full from feeding to feeding -- kitties need wet food more than dry since they don't naturally drink water as they should. The wet food when full of liquid is more filling as when we drink a few glasses of water before we eat a meal. She might actually be dehydrated from not enough liquid --- it is the water that fills us up and helps calm down the food cravings.
Our cats vet wants us to feed nothing but wet..dry food can actually cause urinary tract problems not only weight problems. For some reason cats get like addicted to dry cat food. It must be full of carbs!
Just feed her yourself twice a day, once when you go out to work and once when you get home. Automated feeders are also kind of soulless, Feeding pets by hand strengthens the bonds with them.
Wish a workable one existed though. We hand feed our boy, and due to this, we can't really go anywhere 365/year unless we go through hoops to get a relative to stop by twice a day. We're happy to be around our boy of course, but not being able to go away for a few days without incredible organization (which sometimes is just not available) is a difficulty.
I think the issue is the cost of the mechanics to make it tamper proof. There has to be some give so that a bit of food doesn't jam it, and plastic has enough flex that a determined cat can use that slop to get some treats. However she's probably working enough for the extra to not gain weight, I'd just cut down the size of the meals some to compensate.
@@jo-mf7wl but if they fought, who would win? Answer the question. Are you scared to face the truth? Denial may seem a beautiful thing, but so does oleander.
And then there's my cat, who knows where the food goes in the dispenser, has figured out how to open the dispenser.... but refuses to do so, and even when I'm filling the dispenser, will poke his nose over the top to see what's going in, but won't try to steal any, and will patiently wait until I'm done and put a little food in his bowl.
I had a similar feeder and my cat would just butt it with his head and food would slip out. These devices aren't worth it if a big concern is weight. The heavier kitties will find a way to get it out if its there.

Later, we took a custom-built stick with a V-metal fork tied on the end of it, to shove really deep up in there for the candy bars. Lifting the spinning spring allowed for the candy bars to slide out as many that could before falling flat.

She's putting in effort to get only one piece of kibble at a time; she needs to befriend an octopus and get that lid off for a real payday! I see this was posted over a decade ago and feeders have gotten more sophisticated: my girlfriend & I have 3 cats and one has a weight problem so we got a feeder that you fill with a limited amount of food and it opens by sensing the cat's microchip. We have 3 separate feeders - one for each cat with a diet food for the heavy guy, but he figured out if he waits for one of his sisters to go to their bowl and then pushes them out of the way, he can eat their food until he's full because once open the feeder won't close if there's a cat there. New technology, new grift! Cats!!!
Oh no! What happens to the kitty that gets pushed away? What do they eat?

The common housecat is maybe the top predator on Earth. They are incredible hunters. They did not get this way because they are dumb. They also have an amazing ability to observe things.
Housecats are the top predators on earth? I learn something new every day. Reading TH-cam comments makes me smart!
Not this particular example though. But in general, even tame well fed cats live to hunt. Probably why indoor cats get fat while outdoor cats don't.
You're both wrong. The top predator on Earth is Homo Sapiens.
Some cats just like to eat like some humans 😂 I'm sure this cat is plenty hydrated, but nothing pushes that dopamine button like food
Our cats vet wants us to feed nothing but wet..dry food can actually cause urinary tract problems not only weight problems. For some reason cats get like addicted to dry cat food. It must be full of carbs!
Can confirm, our cat doesnt like any kind of wet food and he's a glutton when it comes to dry food or anything that's diary based.
Give her meat leftovers and she'll feel fuller and lose weight more easily. This industrial crap is just empty and never quite satisfying.

I guess no one at that company ever actually had cats, 5yr-old kids would know what their furry little friends are gonna get into
I think the issue is the cost of the mechanics to make it tamper proof. There has to be some give so that a bit of food doesn't jam it, and plastic has enough flex that a determined cat can use that slop to get some treats. However she's probably working enough for the extra to not gain weight, I'd just cut down the size of the meals some to compensate.
Cats are so smart i sometimes think they are only pretending to be our pets for free food and shelter
