Well done! I really enjoy following your section hikes. The thing that stands out is how you carry on in good style in spite of those adverse things along the trail. I noticed that last year in section L and again here. Blisters are misery, broken pole, and exhausting blow downs. You are the real thing! I respect and appreciate how good you are.
Thank you! Hiking big miles in the backcountry is hard and can be downright painful, but there’s still nowhere else I’d rather be and nothing else I’d rather do. If it were easy, everybody would be out there doing it. I look at all of those trail challenges as character building. I always come back being a better person after any of my trips. 😊
Another amazing section video!! You probably have heard it from your other fans but you are an amazing trail hike. hiking 21 miles in a day takes guts and spirits And afterwards he still look like he had enough energy to do nine more miles to the next destination. All I have to say is you are an inspiration hiker for a lot of us as your fans keep it up thanks....
So much damage in that section. They cleared so much off the PCT in the Alpine Lakes all the way back in June, but that looks like more than one season's damage north of Glacier Peak. Amazing the difference from one Ranger District to another. That area always gets battered. Looked like the new bridge over the Suiattle is already getting beat up a bit...and, yes, I realize that bridge isn't THAT new anymore. Glad you persevered, I would have bailed out the Suiattle River trail even if it was still closed!
When I came through this section in 2018, the nice, fancy bridge over the Suiattle River didn't have any damage at all. I don't know if it was this past winter or the winter before, but this section of trail got BEAT UP by Mother Nature. Every hiker I met on trail felt the same way about the Milk Creek portion - sucky!! After that steep five mile climb up the countless switchbacks, it was beautiful, but it wasn't long before the trail dropped down into the land of downed trees. Oh and don't even get me started on the burn section before Stehekin. Another super scary water crossing and LOTS of bushes. It's trail stories like this that only help make me stronger. :)
Lot of landscape. Interesting video. looking forward to the next episode...... Hiking alongside showing the way you hike is something remarkable. keep it up!
STAN!!!! Thank you again for showing me the less steep path. And also thank you for your service as a volunteer helping us hiker trash get in and around Stehekin in one piece. Told ya I’d make good on that promise and give you a shout out in my video. 😀
It seems the PCT isn’t getting the maintenance it used to. I’ve ridden much of the PCT in Washington, but it’s been a number of years ago. I don’t remember so many blow downs. You are amazing crawling through all of them!
When I came through here in 2018, there weren't nearly as many blowdowns and we were re-routed off the PCT at Cloudy Pass and had to go through Holden Valley to get to Stehekin. It was interesting to see the burn section right before Stehekin. My guess is with COVID over the last two years, the trail crews haven't had a chance to get back here for much trail maintenance. It looked like it had been quite a rough couple of winters back here.
Very well done. Beautiful scenery. Excellent editing. Makes me feel like I’m there along side you. How does a mouse/mice get into an enclosed tent? I don’t know if I could be alone like that in the wilderness. But then being “disconnected” from all the input overload of every day life would probably be very refreshing. Take care and be well!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video and great question. These little bastards chewed their way through my tent netting, near where I left out a couple of snacks inside my tent. I was too tired to throw the snacks in my bear bag before going to bed and figured since the snacks weren't opened, it wouldn't be an issue. Boy was I wrong! The mice at this tent site were aggressive - they broke into my tent twice! First time was when they first tried nibbling through the net and the second time when one of them scurried across my face at 1 in the morning. Lesson Learned - no matter how tired you are, pack ALL of the snacks into your bear bag and tie up the bear bag as far away from camp as possible. Solo backpacking is amazing and so good for my soul. I highly recommend giving it a try sometime.
Wow!! You weren't kidding about the trees!! If the last episode was playground gym, this certainly was an obstacle course. Definitely could spend a couple of days at the lake and just unwind and recharge the soul with those views. Pastries!! Who could pass up fresh baked delicious goodness?? Not this guy!!
Anytime anyone asked me where I was heading, I'd always responded with, "Stehekin Bakery or BUST!!" If you come to Stehekin and don't stop at the bakery, did you even come to Stehekin? Hahahaha!
Another great video! I did section J this summer and plan to do section k next. Question for you - the N. Cascades permit was it a walk up permit or did you have to apply in advance? I think they run a March lottery for permits. Wasn't sure how it worked on this segment.
I hiked Section J as well this summer as well! That vlog series is coming up soon!! As for the permits, the permit I got was a walk-up permit. I got this the morning I came into Stehekin at the ranger station. The park keeps a certain percentage of permits available for walk-ups each day. It all depends on the availability at each campsite. The campsite I wanted to stay at was quite large so there was plenty of room for me to crash with the other PCT thru-hikers. The ranger was so nice in helping me get my permit sorted out. Hope this helps!
I was exhausted and feel asleep with a couple snacks hanging in the overhead net of my tent. Once I cleared the mice out of my tent, put the snacks in my bear bag and threw my bear bag far away out of my tent, they left me alone.
@@TheHungryHiker Ah ha. That would explain it. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. It really means a lot and the information will really help me too. Your videos are wonderful, I look forward to each new one. Keep up the great work!🙂👍💝

Thank you! Heading into Stehekin and stopping at the bakery twice was just the boost I needed to keep hiking later on in the day.
Stehekin Bakery….dreamy!! Looking forward to to visiting the area again.
It was everything I wanted it and needed it to be…and more!!
So jealous of those views! Looks like a stunning area to hike! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Awe! Thank you for this! 😊
👍
Thanks for the thumbs up!
This section is one of my 2 favorites in WA, the other being Goat Rocks.
Goat Rocks was beautiful. Wish I could’ve seen that section and done that climb with all the fog though. I’ll have to go back!!
Tried getting a PCT thru hike permit today. It was all filled by the time I got turn. I am so sad.
Try again in January. Keep the faith!! It will happen. 😀

Yikes! Mice!? Why do you think they tried to get in your tent? Did you keep any food in there?

Yup! Lesson learned. Even if you’re exhausted, don’t forget to pack EVERYTHING in the food bag before going to sleep. 😂
Sorry for the he’s in my text. I was using voice texting
No worries
