    When using black uv resin let the light hit it from both top and bottom. So hit from the top then flip the mold and hit it from the underside. Also do it for twice as long as you would light colored uv resin

    • @DAsAngel1960
      @DAsAngel1960 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ah, but would the UV light be able to penetrate the mica powder 🤔 Color shift mica powders work by reflecting and refraction, which would mean not enough UV light would get through to cure from the outside.

    • @KP-nx8lo
      @KP-nx8lo ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DAsAngel1960 I’ve never had any problems just takes awhile and using a higher powered light would help too. Use either a nail light or one you’d get from like the hardware store

    Hi Ben it never cured because of the black uv resin and the mould is a bit thicker than the moulds you us for uv resin, plus cure from both sides, still looks great 👍 that colour shift 😍 thanks for sharing x

    Can't help but feel that could make for an interesting take on a Sugar Skull there, with the color shift as a base.

  • @RosesResinPeace
    @RosesResinPeace ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I may offer a suggestion, Ben, apply your mica powder, then use a baby wipe to clean up any areas that you don't want it to stay on. If you don't want a definitive line, blend the edge with a make-up brush. Carefully pour in the clear resin so that it doesn't run over the mica, place the bauble, and cure. It might help to use the stir stick to guide the clear resin. Once the clear is cured, it should be good to go for the black.

  • @beckyrebs5148
    @beckyrebs5148 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love the idea of the skull having a boxing backstory, it makes the LED's suit him even more as if he's 'seeing stars' haha!

  • @pkmnmastertash
    @pkmnmastertash ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you were to try this again, try doing the oposite with the UV resin. Coat the mold with the color shift the same way, but instead of suspending the bauble and doing the edges with black uv resin, use the clear uv resin to hold the bauble in the spot you want it and surround it. Just dont do your uv layers too thick!
    As some people have already mentioned, the black pigment prevents the UV light from fully curing the resin. Best practice is to cure from both sides, and use even thinner layers.
    Still looked pretty dope in the end though!

  • @christianegates2781
    @christianegates2781 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I do a lot UV resin stuff, and one thing I learned, is ,the darker and more opaque a color, the less likely it is for the darn thing to cure... had that with black happen several times too😅😅, nice save!

  • @lechatbotte.
    @lechatbotte. ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I’ve had my UV resin do that. Between the coloring agent and the depth of pour it didn’t want to set well. Works better when it’s clear.I did find some transparent tints that worked better. Sticky is an under statement. You did a great job at over coming it. I love this I’ve got that skull mold will be interesting.

    I've learned the hard way that adding colorants (especially opaque) to UV resin defeats the curing process as the colorant blocks the penetration of the UV light. Only a thin crust directly exposed to the UV light may cure but nothing past that. I've gone to using mid-cure 15-minute epoxy and my pressure pot. The 15-minute cure allows just enough time to crush bubbles. I'd be curious if you get similar results if you try this.

    This was quite a project, but you always find a way!❤
