As a professional photographer, I try to go to India at least once every two years. I've been traveling there since 1999 and find it one of the most magical (and frustrating) places on earth. I must also add, that after years of lugging around my beloved Nikon gear, I've moved to Fujifilm mirrorless. They are way less 'intrusive', fewer people get uptight or intimidated, and you get better access to the things you want to photograph. You won't sacrifice image quality...and your back will love you for it.
