In my high school marching band, we all just called them "hats", not shakos. They came in two sizes: Too big and too small. And to this day, I'm convinced that crossbelts were originally designed as torture devices. Plus, our uniforms were black wool. They weren't warm in the winter OR cool in the summer, but at least (like wool tends to do) was pretty resistant to light rain.

Not sure who found the Rules of Rose PS2 game for $3.99, but assuming it's the US Version (and contained the disk) they hit the PS2 collectors gold mine. The normal price for the US version is around $300/$350 loose to $500/$600 sealed.
Yeah, that's the US version. I think it's likely to have the disk as the store they got it from typically puts the disks in a binder of sleeves at the front. What an incredible find.
This reminds me of Techmoans story about a friend who went looking for a series of car books as a hobby, then TechMoan introduced him to eBay; they found all of the books via eBay and had no reason to go out on day trips looking for the books any more... Never have a goal when you go out thrifting! (A term not used by us Brits but we do it)
This is very true. If you're in an area with a decent amount of old money, then you'll end up finding stores with a lot of old tech hiding in them, so it's best not to go into it with a goal but instead to treat is like you're browsing a museum of odd curios where you can buy the displays.

My grandmother used to have a bunch of those fiber optic clock/plant thing. I had forgotten about them, seeing it made me tear up a little.
My grandma had one as well, it had a little music box inside that played some sad song. Really brings back memories.
At five bucks, that's a *_steal_* by comparison to how much they cost when they made them.

Not quite the same, but it made me think of a mineral oil "rain" cage lamp that my great aunt had. There was a Venus-looking statue inside the cage, along with fake ferns. Ah, nostalgia.
Man in the 80s I think everyone in my family had one of those things, I had completely forgotten about them.

Barbie’s Riding Adventure thingy was one of my daughter’s favorite games when she very young. We spent many hours playing together and it was great to see it pop up in your haul!

4:45 what my local Goodwill always looks like. It's the reason I never find anything interesting. Also doesn't help that my suburb was built in the late 90s, so nobody was around to own C64s and cool things in the 80s.
Same. In CO we have a local thrift chain called ARC, and for a while they were better than Goodwill about being organized but now all the local stores also look like that. Stuff just tossed on the shelves, cables aren't paired with their devices unless they were donated already attached/taped, etc.
All our thrift stores are notoriously picked over by people flipping stuff, it's rare to find people in there without a cell phone in their hand, checking prices on eBay as they fill up their carts with anything worthwhile...particularly in the electronics. I mean, I get that that's more or less their job, but it sucks that unless you're there every day all you're going to find is stuff that's obviously broken or otherwise worthless. During the retro video game event they hold a couple times a year, the guy that owns the primary used game store has almost his entire staff camp out at like 2 in the morning with 20 gallon totes, they rush the place when it opens and throw everything into their totes and go sit in the back corner of the store, going through everything at their leisure, buy up 50% of their inventory, take it back to his shop and mark it up 200%-300%. Then the owner gets on Facebook and calls everyone a bunch of whiny bitches that comment on on his store page. It's just a real great time.
I don't go to them much anymore. I wish we had half the shit on the shelves at our stores that are showcased in these videos.

I don't know, I am visiting a thrift store in my area where the neighbor hood was built 2 years ago, and they have stuff from the 90s.

I live in a town with two goodwills, two habitat for humanity, one Salvation Army, and various other hole in the wall thrift stores. Watching you get excited about finding things you collect for a good deal makes me think I’m not crazy for going to all of those thrift stores at least every other day! Happy thrifting!

Hearing a guy say "Christmas!" in all manner of intonations whille shopping seems uniquely attractive .....
I could see a mini-special, maybe like a one-minute video with him saying "Christmas!" and anything remotely Christmas-based in a thrift shop.
I'm fairly certain that's a Hammond Sounder organ from about 1973-1974. They were a line of low cost electric organs intended for home use. The label appears to have been ripped off - it would have been to the left of the keys.
The company on the plaque is a restoration company and was around fairly recently (a couple of years back), but I do not know if they still are in operation. Restores for this sort of thing are pretty rare.
At a very distant guess, it looks like the organ was bought, restored, and then was damaged after the restoration. This happens a lot to instruments, especially in places like schools or practice rooms or anywhere where the instrument has a high usage.
An unusual find, to be sure.

I must say that I really enjoyed watching this series!! This was the first one for me but then I went back and watched all of the others. So much nostalgia!! I'm 52 years old and either had a lot of that stuff going up or knew someone that did. I am glad to see that all hope is not lost on the younger generations. LOL! Keep up the great work.

@@TeruteruBozusama If you don't like horror games, I wouldn't bother. It's way too expensive to be worth buying if you aren't into the genre. Although I do recommend anyone pick it up if they see it cheap, whether they like the game or not! That goes for any expensive game though haha.
I missed this one. This was released right in the middle of my wife's hospitalization for a stroke. She was getting better right here. She got great and was going to come home and suddenly died early morn on Jan 3. Sigh. 31 years to nothing. I miss you my soulmate. Still sad. But Ill watch the thrifting video. It will help I bet.

Where I live I can't thrift. Every store is picked over by local businesses/resellers for anything of value. Old games are valuable. The only thing they don't take are wii fit boards and guitar hero guitars. Everything else from consoles to games are gone. And I never find anything anymore. Just 10 years ago there was always games and consoles around.

My comment is going to get buried deep within the mass of other comments, but it is always interesting to see how other Goodwill stores (in your case, the stores repping Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina) operate with pricing and what they accept. I myself used to work (as of November of this year, had to leave due to Social Security) at a Goodwill store, in this case, a store representing the Goodwill Industries of Central & Southern Indiana, and they would take a look at this and just be baffled with what is sold. They stopped accepting televisions back in 2010, and you'd never see them try to sell rocks, and that NES Zapper would likely have a price tag somewhere around $2.99 ($1.49 if the tag's color was half-off, which was the week before purging).
Also, I was the book scanner at my store, and I would NEVER allow the kid's section to look like that at my store because I also organized and purged books on the shelves.
I find second hand stores get pricier and messier the closer you get to a big city. The hospital auxiliary thrift store I worked at in high school would sell clothes for at most $5, but the store in the nearest city tries to sell sweaters for $15.
FINALLY A NEW ONE
I love this series because I used to live in a rural area where all the Goodwills were like these - mostly junk but always something special to find if you were persistent enough. I later moved near a larger city & the thrift stores here are overpriced, & absolutely never have anything special at all in them. I dont even bother thrifting here at all. Thankfully with this series I get to do my thrifting through you, LGR! So thanks! 😀

There's a thrift store near my house and they sell a crap ton of old CRTs and monitors that are a few years old for $11. I actually got my dual display setup from there.
3:41 I still have that silver Olympus camera. Surprisingly crisp and good quality images for a 2MP camera.

In Satl Lake City, you can drive about 10-15 minutes and go to thrift store after thrift store, there's roughly 7-10 in the valley depending on how much driving you want to do. If you ever do a road trip this way, you should take a few hours and check them out.
Oh yeah, another SLC dweller! Load up the Suburban, we're going to the DI.
The store in Millcreek, off 45th, is great. I got an excellent coffee table and end tables set there, all three pieces were in next to perfect condition, for $75.

Man, as a kid I was always super jealous that we don't get snow where I live in Australia, but as I've grown up I've kind of realised just how much of a blessing that is.

Wow, whoever got Rule of Rose for PS2 for only 3.99 got a hell of a deal. That’s one of the rarest PS2 games there is, and sells for many orders of magnitude more than what they paid. Amazing find !
I swear , at 13 years old i went to a indoor swapmeet and some sweet mexican lady had a video game stand and that game was on the shelf for $5 usd.

I loved those fibre optic lamps and knickknacks from back in the day! My parents had one on their bedside table in the mid 1990's. Loved it!
Ah, don't worry about the amount of stuff you buy or don't. Your commentary on obscure stuff, things you find interesting and even things you *don't* ('cos honestly "hey look at this! What a piece of useless junk" is often every bit as amusing) is as much the point as seeing the haul. I always enjoy a quick wander around the peculiar world of thrift stores with you.
You know you've got a winner when your series inspires other, similar content creators to do basically the same and I can think of at least two others I watch who have taken up the "Thrifts" concept.
