@@twizz420 Agreed. If he's being fed a dry food diet that could be a cause. Cats are natural predators, so they don't drink water naturally- they get it from their food. Dry food really does increase the chances of a blockage unless it's specific urinary diet food- but even so, if I recall a lack of water is also a leading thing that starts the rolling ball of kidney failure long term in cats.
So glad Mayo is ok! Also I always love the rare moments we hear the cameraman. He sounds like an incredibly cool character you only see four or five times throughout a movie or videogame but every time he shows up everything gets 100% cooler
knowing how much cats "dislike" drinking water is something that i always think about. because my two cats (and 1 dog) are absolutely BEASTS when it comes to water consumption. we have to refill their water so often it feels like they just sit there chugging lmao. they are very happy healthy animals, treating that bowl like their community hangout, guess its nice to have a drink with friends and chat about the day even for a cat

Cats are pretty strange when it comes to that. A friend has to Persians and you can t brush them...no way. The kill themself, there owner...the brush..everyone and they will scream the whole time. Beeing shaved is absolutely fine for them.
It’s nice to see people pull together for other peoples pets! I spent $7000 on vet billls after my 1 yr old Calico broke her leg! I truly don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t had the money! My cats health is something I don’t take lightly! All 3 cats have cost a total of $22000 in various vet bills, I’ve sacrificed several things to make sure they get the treatment they deserve!
I had a wonderful Maine Coon named "Frisky Joe" in the early 2000's. The humane society had named him that, I didn't understand until the middle of the night the first night. Mayo is the most disgruntled and ungrateful condiment ever. After all that vet care and grooming. Repaid with nothing but “Now that I am wet, please kill me now” stares. Hope he’s doing better. It’s one thing thing to look after a cute and cuddly cat. It’s a real act of love to look after the ones who’d rather you not. Thank you!
I adopted a cat who was narrowly saved after his kidneys failed, and his previous owner had no idea why. I got him a water fountain bowl for $25 and he immediately loved it. He drinks about a liter a day now, and his last vet visit showed enormous improvement. Now he can have cat treats again!
If he drunk a liter per day he would be dead after a day. That's like drinking your total weight. Fun fact if a human drink 6+ liters of water he can die of blood dilution. 1 to 2 liter of water is considered normal for a HUMAN. Double that if you do extreme physical activity in a dry place. Double again and you risk dying if you are not.
Poor spicy Mayo. He's been through the mill. So glad he's recovered. He currently in this video seems mad enough to spit nails!! Thank you for saving his life!!
"most cats do not like to drink stale water" *Look out my kitchen window to see my cats taking turns drinking out of an old flower pot we repurposed as an outdoor water bowl*
Well, "most cats" doesn't mean "all cats", just the majority. My dad's previous cats liked to drink the old fish water every time dad changed the aquarium water. Though the majority of their water intake came from wet food and prey, so perhaps the aquarium water was just an interesting novelty.
My cat drinks from EVERY other stationary water source except her own water bowl. The bird bath, the watering cans, etc... But she also lives for running faucets and shower heads.
PLEASE listen to her little informative cat food part. My mom and I had two cats, a brother and a sister. The male cat’s name was Jack and we only fed them dry food. Jack ended up developing diabetes from his diet and ultimately passed away. About a year later, the sister cat, Rou, passed away as well. They were both only 7. We got another cat a few years later, Oliver. We now feed him wet food every night and he’s already 9 !! He’s a super healthy cat so we should have many more years with him, but please save your cats y’all !!
kibble diets actually aren't that bad. I had 2 cats brother and sister. my male cat like mayo developed a urinary blockage due to stress. (there where a lot of kids around and he couldn't take it.) luckily we caught it in time and managed to save his life. after that we switched them both over to IAMS urinary tract formula (kibble) and they ate that for pretty much their entire lives. my big boy got out when he was 10 and never came home, but his sister lived to be 19 she developed Hyperthyroidism when she was 14 and had a heart murmur ultimately passing away due to a blood clot going to her lungs. but according to the vet she had the most beautiful teeth and never had to have any dental work done. no we did not brush her teeth, she wasn't fond of it. there are bad parts to kibble but there are good parts to it too. its mostly about knowing what the pros and cons are and finding a way to deal with them.
@@fbidumbbee Food is still the ground base of any animal's health, if a food does not have proper protein and minerals it will lead to a deficiency and most likely health problems down the road, I'm sorry if me not liking kibble gets your balls in a bunch, but I'm just trying to say something as simply as possible, but obviously that doesn't work with people who will defend things with their entire dignity.
Shaving make such a huge difference! My two long haired elderly cats had complete personality shifts after we all got over the hilarious shame inducing lion cuts. They were so much more comfortable.
My friends cat started having trouble with peeing frequently but not really going and it had blood in it. She ate a dry kibble/whatever she caught outside diet (mice, moles, rabbits). We added extra moisture by mixing 1/4-1/3 can wet food with a little water. She loves it and no more urinary problems.
my cat recently had the same exact issue. I spotted it right before he would've died. now he eats wet canned food that I pour a bit of water into as well as pureed pumpkin for the extra hydration and regular bathroom movements. for my dog I mix his dried organic food with wet organic foods also with extra water & pumpkin puree so he cane regular too. it definitely helps!
If you change the water regularly, 2-3 spoons of the broth that is in the canned food often makes them drink more. I grew up with a cat that required quarter of a teaspoon of heavy cream (that is low in lactose, so he never had issues with it) in his milk bowl or he would just sit and sulk. Always amused me, cause you could not even see it change color, but it was clearly "milk" in his opinion :D
@@Usortert that is a good idea but I also know that Robert Francis (my cat) is so damn picky that there's a 50/50 shot he'll take to it especially when he licks the can if he finds it lol
I had a cat that put a hole in a Rubbermaid tub AND bent the corner down permanently!! For me the plastic tub was easier to keep her than a full size bathtub where I couldn’t reach half of it due to the sink location! (old water closet in a 1920 house!) So I improvised by using a 25 gallon Rubbermaid tub! 😹
the water fountains are awesome! my late cat was a very stoic girl that would literally never drink the water set out for her, but once we got a fountain she would be at it 2 or 3 times a day
In a desert, still pools of clear water with nothing living inside are very, very bad news. They’re often full of arsenic and other poisons; that’s why they’re so clear, as nothing can live in them at all. Moving or circulating water is a much, much safer bet, which is why housecats descended from desert cats instinctively prefer moving water over bowls of still water.
Our cats increased their water intake after we got a water fountain also. They also get dry kibble freely but also get half a can of wet nomz at dinner.
I went through a whole ordeal with my cat being rushed 3 times to the vet for a unrianry blockage. Each time, it was super stressful and we worried if our cat was going to make it. Poor guy had a bladder stone in his urethra and had to get surgery to remove it.

Thank you for the info on cats and hydration!! I have another little tip for anyone that's having trouble getting their cats to drink water. If you do have a little bowl with water for them, make sure you put it in a different location than their food bowl. I dont remember where I got this info from, but when I did put the bowl in a different spot, my cats immediately started to drink more. Also my small cat Suki at first didn't understand that there was water in the bowl at all. I sat down with her and dipped my finger in the water so she could lick it. After a while she would understand and dip her paw in the bowl to check if there was water before drinking normally :) Just some ideas for anyone that needs them
I’ve seen some people put things that float, like a ping pong ball, in the water so the cat can see where the water level is. We have a cat that would ONLY drink from the faucet, until we got a fountain. Now she prefers the fountain over the faucet.
@@soulcatcher_pajome Exactly ... 'Small' Cats, in the wild, like Pumas, are smart enough not eat near any water source, in case any blood contaminates it ... If I had the money, I would create a fountain, inside a transparent, polycarbonate box, that cats can get at by poking the heads through a door. Aside from the water constantly being recirculated, and filtered, it keeps any dirt, and dust away from the water, especially as cats have more taste buds, which is more sensitive, than our human ones ... I knew a cat once whom would only drink from the bathtub tap, as even a 'hour-old' bowl of water went 'off' ... and also rain puddles, as soon as it had stopped raining ... In fact, I wonder if cats prefer water with a slightly lower pH than 7, so 6.9-something, which may explain their preference for rain puddles ... ... it may also explain why dogs drink from toilet bowls, as the water is constantly being refreshed, and the lid keeps all dust and dirt from landing on it ...
@@MeriLizzie Cats are great at seeing things at long distances, but drops something at their feet, and unless it's not small enough to appear blurry, they 'can't' see it. That's why the ping-pong ball trick works, as close up, they can see depth ... Fun fact: during diving competitions, a hose is used to spray across the surface of the water, to produce an effect so the diver can 'know' exactly where the surface is ... If the water is so still, and so clear, it often is hard to see where the water surface is, instead of the feeling you're diving into an empty pool ...
I’ve been adding extra water to my cats’ food because I didn’t think they drank enough water. Thank you for the explanation! I now know I was doing the right thing! I make every meal more watery than normal, but not too watery that they turn their nose up. It is an art!
The other trick is use wet food, especially with gravy*, and add just a tiny amount of kibble for 'crunch', as feral/wildcat species are used to chomping down on bones ... As a veterinarian technician once told me, for cats, as well as dogs, _raw_ bones are fine, but _cooked_ bones, definitely not ... ... but what you can do is remove all that cartalliage from, say, chicken bones, and, depending on the cat, they may love chewing on that ... [*= if you want to spoil your furbaby, use low-sodium stock, made from cubes/powders/jelly; or ready made liquid stock. You can even make your own from all left over bones, but not kept too long in the fridge/freezer ...]
No idea with cats but I have heard with ferrets (seem very similar to cats), that if the dry biscuits are too wet the nutrients seeps into the water and the ferret misses out. I love that you are instinctively helping your cat ❤️
Yay, Mayo is back to his ol' spicy self! Thank you for sharing the info about his medical issue. Many cat owners have no clue about cat's not getting enough hydration, & the damage that can cause. My 1st kitty passed away due to blockages between kidneys & bladder. I was new to cat parenting, & had no clue about what quality food was, & type of food available. I saw a familiar kitty on a bag of food & bought it. A steady diet of lower quality dry kibble, plus my cat not drinking enough, led to total heartbreak. I didn't make the same mistake with my current kitty. He's been on a very good diet, with plenty of moisture, since he was 8 weeks old. He'll be 10 this July, & he's quite healthy. Thank you for all you do for our four-legged friends, & for keeping us well informed & entertained.

Mayo while being bathed: *ANGRY SCREAMING*
Ey that’s what I thought too
@@isthataspider7410 Being bathed for an hour doesn't cause a urinary blockage. Judging from the look of his skin, he's not getting enough water.
Sound like he was saying Noooo!

So glad Mayo is ok! Also I always love the rare moments we hear the cameraman. He sounds like an incredibly cool character you only see four or five times throughout a movie or videogame but every time he shows up everything gets 100% cooler
He really does!
Oddly specific compliments like this are the best possible compliments!
knowing how much cats "dislike" drinking water is something that i always think about. because my two cats (and 1 dog) are absolutely BEASTS when it comes to water consumption. we have to refill their water so often it feels like they just sit there chugging lmao. they are very happy healthy animals, treating that bowl like their community hangout, guess its nice to have a drink with friends and chat about the day even for a cat
your cats are meeting by the water cooler like they work in an office and i think that's the most adorable thing i've heard all week :)
Agreed. My 2 cats finish our 2 liter water fountain in about a week.
I had the same issue, I got a filtered 2 liter water fountain that has a removable spout on Amazon for like 40$…game changer. I have a cat that likes to drink from the sink though lol
Our cats too. We have 3 water sources for them we are constantly refilling throughout the day.
Our cat only drinks from the dog’s water, and quite often. She won’t drink from anything else.
I'm so happy he's getting better. Poor kitty had me worried. He looks like he's really gotten used to your clippers and blow dryer, even if he detests the bathtub...!
WOAH WOAH WOAH!!! Let me get this perfectly straight: You comment something that is completely unrelated to the fact that I have two HAZARDOUSLY HANDSOME girlfriends? I'm surprised that Mayonnaise is tolerating the shaving so well.
Did you that face towards the end? There are many broken things and some blood offerings in the owners' future.

The mattes looked hard to keep up with! Hopefully it felt good
He must be exhausted from being sick, or liking the feel of the shaver?!
Cats are pretty strange when it comes to that. A friend has to Persians and you can t brush them...no way. The kill themself, there owner...the brush..everyone and they will scream the whole time. Beeing shaved is absolutely fine for them.
I hope owners of Mayonnaise know how much joy their cat has brought us

i am so glad to see he is recovered to the point of literally climbing the walls. all hail spicy Mayo. 💜 🎉
I love how he despises the bath, yet absolutely melts in the pleasure of the blow-dryer.
I like that name "Spicy Mayo". Now I don't feel so silly about naming my cat "Baby corn" back in the 1990s.
I had a wonderful Maine Coon named "Frisky Joe" in the early 2000's. The humane society had named him that, I didn't understand until the middle of the night the first night. He ran all over the house, very similar to what my great dane would do when he got the zoomies. So he stayed Frisky Joe till the end of his life. Man I miss the big guy.
I love that name.
My brother and I named our long-haired tortoiseshell cat Muffin in 1994. We thought she looked like a little bran muffin as a kitten. She and her litter sister, Lucy, were 15 when they died. We were just kids when we got them and our mom named Lucy.
My mom named her childhood cat Spunky
I mean, I wanted to name my cat Missile “Missy” Launcher (we went with blueberry 🙄)
2:23 he re-enacts a scene from the Lion King, calling out to his ancient subjects on the savanna. Mysteriously, none answer.
I’m so glad he’s better but he really looks like he regrets his life while he’s in the bath 😂
Where would we all be without the spicy Mayo? In a sadder world, I would think

2:58 I love how he just swifly lays down-
Mayo is the most disgruntled and ungrateful condiment ever.
You can tell he’s feeling better because he’s bringing peak levels of spice 💜💜
Poor spicy Mayo. He's been through the mill. So glad he's recovered. He currently in this video seems mad enough to spit nails!! Thank you for saving his life!!

I love that when you trying to bath him, he is constantly calling for the manager.
“I demand to speak to your manager!”
“I am the manager.”
Never thought I'd get choked up over a cat I've never met. So glad he's back and spicy as ever!
I love how his paws are like giant fluffy mittens!
"most cats do not like to drink stale water"
*Look out my kitchen window to see my cats taking turns drinking out of an old flower pot we repurposed as an outdoor water bowl*
Well, "most cats" doesn't mean "all cats", just the majority. My dad's previous cats liked to drink the old fish water every time dad changed the aquarium water. Though the majority of their water intake came from wet food and prey, so perhaps the aquarium water was just an interesting novelty.
Eh, the same cat who insists on a sterile bowl full of Perrier will drink from the toilet if you leave the lid up.
yeah my cat doesnt care tbh
My cat drinks from EVERY other stationary water source except her own water bowl. The bird bath, the watering cans, etc... But she also lives for running faucets and shower heads.
That's not stale, that's "flavored".
That escape attempt was quite impressive, climbing up a metal wall lol
"I'll tell YOU when I'm fine!" Seriously though, glad he's feeling well enough to try an escape.
@Moebym Yeah, my old boys reached 17 and 18 on a kibble diet.
@Moebym Kibble still doesn't seem natural, and it's usually loaded with other products and very little natural food.
kibble diets actually aren't that bad.
@@CircussCakenatural DOES NOT always equal good, i am so tired of people spreading this rhetoric.
Mayo needs his own channel. I'd love to watch the adventures of the spice. He's adorable and funny.😻💕😹
I’m so glad he’s back! Thank you for educating us about his condition and how pet owners can help prevent this from happening to their pets.
I'm so happy you were able to pay for Mayo's treatment. That's such a beautiful thing, you're wonderful! 🙂
my cat recently had the same exact issue.

For me the plastic tub was easier to keep her than a full size bathtub where I couldn’t reach half of it due to the sink location! (old water closet in a 1920 house!) So I improvised by using a 25 gallon Rubbermaid tub! 😹

I love his face during the drying, where he leaned against you. Super cute
the water fountains are awesome! my late cat was a very stoic girl that would literally never drink the water set out for her, but once we got a fountain she would be at it 2 or 3 times a day
In a desert, still pools of clear water with nothing living inside are very, very bad news.

After a while she would understand and dip her paw in the bowl to check if there was water before drinking normally :)
Just some ideas for anyone that needs them
It's because cats in the wild don't drink where they eat to avoid contaminating their water source!
I’ve seen some people put things that float, like a ping pong ball, in the water so the cat can see where the water level is. We have a cat that would ONLY drink from the faucet, until we got a fountain. Now she prefers the fountain over the faucet.
@@soulcatcher_pajome
Exactly ...
@@MeriLizzie
Cats are great at seeing things at long distances, but drops something at their feet, and unless it's not small enough to appear blurry, they 'can't' see it.
@@nigelft oh definitely! Im constantly trying to get my cat to see what is in front of her face!! 😹😹
