    I went from a V6 petrol CX9 to a 2.2 diesel Santa Fe and similar thing, the diesel has much better low end torque and fuel consumption is about half. Diesel all the way with big heavy cars like this.

    People often choose the petrol for fear of DPF issues with the diesel. This 2.2 diesel has been around for over 10 years and is very well proven in all areas. These cars have never had DPF issues.

      I chose the v6 petrol. After almost 20 000 km since new my acculated fuel use is 10.4 l/ 100 km.
      The duel clutch worried me and just had a mate had to spend 8000 dollars to replace it.
      I do not tow anything and very much just city driving and some freeway duties.
      Love the smooth engine.

    The diesel makes this car feel like you put a 2.0L in your Datsun 1200 Ute, it’s so responsive and eager especially in sport mode. The V6 feels like the engine is too small for the car, always having to bury the pedal and hear it wind out to get anywhere. Real life suburban fuel economy on the diesel with 4 kids on board is 11.0L/100km by comparison my 2.4L tarago used to get 14.7L/100km. The only time I’ve been able to get near the manufacturer stated fuel economy is a good run on the freeway using eco mode with an empty car and possibly a strong tailwind...

      This is strange, my consumption almost never exceeds 9 L with the same car/engine combo and all this on unlimited German Highways. Suburban is less than 8 L. You must be living in a very dense area encountering a lot of traffic jams.

  • @ThomasFG

    It's interesting though how the braking distance varies so much between them.
    V6 does 100km/h - 0km/h in 36.62 meters yet the Diesel does 100km/h - 0km/h in an impressive 34.98 meters the difference over 1.5 meters better in comparison.
    And they're literally fitted with the same Continental rubber, so that's out of the equation. Wonder if they've got slightly different programming, etc
    1.5 meters doesn't sound like much, but reality that 1.5 meter gap is the difference between rear ending someone or stopping, hitting someone that ran in front of you or not, hitting a big red or avoiding him, etc

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it’s interesting. It could be the heavier weight of the diesel motor over the front end? Helping to press the tyres onto the ground.

    • @ThomasFG
      @ThomasFG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PDriveTV Could be, because specs wise they use the same brakes (rotors, calipers, etc). One being AWD could have more weight at the rear thus aiding in braking.

      @@PDriveTV I was really cross shopping a 4x4 like the Rexton or making do with an AWD Santa-Fe, because i wana have the flexibility of being able to go off the beaten track if required. Decisions are hard because both offer very similar equipment, especially the much needed rear a/c in the 3rd row which i think should be mandatory in most SUV's in Australia. Many don't offer the seperate a/c in the very rear.
      Combined with having minimum power requirements the Pajero Sport was a good contender let down by abysmal power & torque outputs. Isuzu MUX (very good power & torque) was another one but i don't like the idea of a plastic tailgate long term in Australia's climate.

    Quite a difference in fuel levels between the two, v6 almost empty and the diesel has a full tank. Thats 70+ kg difference

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vbox tests were conducted prior to the video being recorded (we always do tests and video separately). On some occasions we do them on completely different days; if it starts raining for example we head back to the strip another day just to run the video. But, that’s a valid point. We usually try to Vbox test cars with a close-to-full tank. Apologies on this occasion. That weight wouldn’t have made much difference though, not in a nearly 2000kg vehicle.

    • @user-vk4vd7vr5t
      @user-vk4vd7vr5t 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No harm done! It would be interesting to see the difference in performance between an almost empty and a full tank. With the side by side comparo shown in the video of a 0-100 run, the v6 is slightly ahead with less fuel onboard
