"Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven..."

Just watching this and saw your comment. I just returned to the Catholic Church after being an evangelical for many years (30+) I am finding it amazing hope you are too. I love going to Mass and receiving the Eucharist. We attend a Lectio Divina group which I find really good, check it out if there is one near you. God Bless You.

From the Church's murder record (selection)
Murder of people of other faiths in their own country; Inquisition: for centuries; approx. one million deaths
Murder of people of other faiths in their own country and outside; murder of Jews; many millions dead
Murder of people of other faiths in other countries, especially Muslims; Crusades: many millions of deaths
Murder of indigenous peoples of conquered countries, e.g. Indians: approx. 100 million dead, the largest genocide of all times.
Murder of opponents of war and their families; countless wars inspired and blessed by the Church; many millions dead
Murder of disabled people; demanded, involved or tolerated, e.g. in the Third Reich; thousands of deaths
Murder of opponents of dictatorships with direct church involvement, e.g. in Argentina (more here; or our report here)
Murder of ethnic groups within a state with direct church involvement, e.g. Serbs in Croatia in the 1940s or Tutsis in Rwanda in the 1990s.
Murder of Indian children, mostly in an indirect way, in Canada and the USA in the 20th century. More than 60% of the children taken away from their parents did not survive the church re-education schools.
Murder of animals; devaluation as "soulless" beings and release for slaughter; billions and trillions of deaths
Soul murder of hundreds of thousands of children in the 20th and 21st centuries by child molester criminals in gowns
Get out of the Church. Jesus is King.

I came across your site three weeks ago and now, everyday I listen to one your videos. I don't know how many there are but I am enjoying it and taking notes and I know that with these given knowledge, I can bring my children back to church....back to God. I am from Malaysia and I thank God our path 'crossed.' Thank you Father Mike. You are the angel God sent.

I moved to a new state, a new life 8 months ago. And like the girl who left the Newman House Masses and dinners crying, people here are friendly but I haven't made one real friend here. And I hurt and feel alone even though I attend church regularly. But I hear your message - my environment/culture will kill my spirit and faith if I let this aloneness continue. Your words make it known to me that I can "belong" more as a Catholic just by making a change (taking action ) and becoming more involved in my church. Thank you, Fr Mike.

Fr Mike you are a true inspiration, i love how real you are, you are not afraid of crying front of others, you are not afraid of being silly, you are not afraid of being so honest about Christ and how much he gave for us. I am a Catechist, and often i share my experiences with my students, and often i have cried, acted silly and being honest with them, you have shown me the confidence to be who God has called me to be. I respect you so much, because although in our eyes, you are a very handsome man, but you don't let that get to you. I went many years being afraid of being who i was because i just saw the lust in men's eyes, but i have become comfortable enough with myself that i don't think of that at all. Thank you for being such an inspiration. You are truly a Godsend and i aspire to be more like you are. God bless you. Your Sister in Christ. Maria

It’s good to check ourselves to see what burner we put the Lord on. We want Him on the front burner, and if we Absentmindedly put Him on the back burner we can still put Him on the front burner. He has full permission to put His fire on my soul. It’s up to me to stoke the fire 🔥. Great message thank you for being transparent and inspiring us with your love for Him.

I understand needing a friend... I have felt friendless since middle school. You honestly never understand why. I still don't. Perhaps if I had friends to talk about God with I might had remembered my faith along time ago. Or better, would never had lost it... God gave us Each other. That means he gave you to the person with no one. They don't even need you to be their best friend... but letting them come to watch a movie... letting them join your study group. Inviting them to eat out, or to a party... Inviting them to a Talk just like this one. Can make all the difference in the world. The devil loves people that are alone. He makes sure that their worlds are so dark, they forget he's even there. Or... worse.. that not even Jesus's cares. And that is a really dark and lonely place. Father Mike is so right... This world. The lonely people need friends. That is.. you... Amen. God Bless you.

Lucy's episode reminds me to tell you this. I also broke my patella in my gym on the 4th of March 2020 just when the Covid 19. I was in the hospital for about 1 1/2 month and it hurts me to say that our priests never even gave a call even though they knew it. There are wires in my knee and it hurts like hell even now and the drs say the pain will never go as the patella had broken into pieces. When I heard this talk of yours I also got tears in my eyes. You strengthen my soul and I now do not feel sorry for myself though my life is changed now. Thank you from the core of my heart.

So I listened to this talk a couple of days ago. Then the very next day I saw my Lucie. I had made plans to meet a friend for lunch. This friend told me where exactly to meet him, but could not remember the name of the pita restaurant. He said that he would text me when he got there but he was absolutely sure it was at the SE corner or University and Priest Dr. in Tempe. So I get there but did not see a sushi bar and a liqueur store. I stay in my car with the doors locked in this really sketchy parking lot. As I look to my right I see two empty parking spaces and a Blue Toyota Prius with Illinois plates in the 3rd spot over. As I start at the driver's erratic movements, I see that he buckles his seat belt. I think for a few moments and realize that this guy is tripping on something super strong and getting ready to drive his car. As I debate whether to call the police I remember this talk I had heard the day before and Lucie. So I call 911. I tell them what's going on and they ask for his plate number. I give it to them but he's still in his parking stall wiping his face, flipping the mirrors in the car back and forth, twitching, flailing his arms. He sat there for a good 10 minutes, then he proceeds out of the parking spot while I'm on the phone with the officers. So I follow him for a few minutes but he begins to swerve all over the place on Priest Dr. About then I see the officers behind me. Don't know what would have happened if I did not call when I did, but I feel he was my Lucie.

I know that I am commenting late, lol.. only a little, any'who.. I wanted to say, that I distinctly remember, feeling as though, I was alone.. when my parents and grandparents passed, I was looking for someone, anyone to.. simply, be there.. at the time, I had drifted away from God, for reasons I blamed on not getting the answers I wanted, and was a very angry young man.. but, when I spent the 2 years in and out of hospital rooms and funeral homes, I just felt.. empty, I would cry, wishing that the empty condolences and hollow "how are you doing" chit chat.. was a real care or concern, I would look around and see the looks and smiles, but.. no one ever cared enough to act.. sorry, I am rambling.. I want to say, that past experience can either harden or reshape who you are.. I work in Hospice now, Nursing and Grief Ministry.. because, I want to make sure.. that, at least the people I can influence and care for.. have someone, to simply be there.. and care

Why some Roman Catholic priest not preaching the same like you? Roman Catholic here in the Philippines I only seen them in the mass. I want this kind of preaching and its not boring. I really feel the spirit when I listened at you.
I listened to born again preaching and he has the same spirit as you.

Father, I hope you read this:
Hi Father, after listening to your story about Lucy and seeing how distressed you are about that encounter, I'm concerned for you and for her. It sounds like you may be suffering over-scrupulous guilt about not having personally approached her on the plane, and that she may have been suffering from a disproportionate spirit of blame towards you at the time she wrote that email (which I don't mean as an accusation against her; she's young, and we've all been there). From the outside, it looks like you certainly DID care "enough", and behaved prudently in the circumstance you describe. A young female stranger on a plane, some distance away from you, suffered a minor injury -- and several people closer to her than you were effectively helping her. Sometimes, humility means letting others be the 'hero', and not interfering in a situation that is already over-crowded with others helping out, just so we 'feel' helpful. Also, a plane is an environment where for safety and courtesy reasons (e.g. in-flight; not creating a blockage in the aisle in case others need to pass), we are usually required to stay seated. A public space is one where, also for reasons of safety and courtesy, adult men are usually discouraged from approaching young female strangers without a clear and obvious reason; she had already been thoroughly assisted with her knee dislocation, and you had no way to know for sure that she was a Catholic on her way to Seek who would welcome your random approach -- she could as easily have been uncomfortable with the approach of an adult male offering help after help had already been received, and wondered if you were hitting on her (perhaps more uncomfortable still if you revealed you were a priest and she felt uncomfortable or awkward about that). I mean, technically speaking, what could you have helped with? She had presumably already received medical attention (and you're not a medic); if she wanted extra water or juice, there was presumably a button to press to summon a literal steward.
I can readily understand, since she *was* a Catholic on her way to Seek, her internal hope that somehow her celebrity priest father would realize this and approach. But it doesn't sound like she gave you any clear sign (even a friendly wave of the hand, or something like that) to signify to you that her glances backwards were a positive thing, and not a sign of discomfort about the man staring at her. And without that, to be honest I'm not sure (in today's cultural climate, at least) what prudent reason you could have had for approaching her -- at least not that couldn't be outweighed by prudent reasons for not approaching.
A part of me wonders if you might also feel pressure, as a sort of 'celebrity', to be *seen* to help out, and your public confession here might be more related to shame that there is a young person out there who perceives themselves as 'let down' by you, and you want to get ahead of that, or want to own it as a way of (by confessing), being absolved, *just in case* you were in the wrong (I suffer from scrupulosity, so I'm not unfamiliar with this experience). And you might be controlled right now by a desire for others to think well of you, and for others to feel well about you; you might be sorrowful at feeling like a disappointment to someone. But remember that it is not up to us how others think or feel about us; it is up to us to obey God at every moment (this applies to both you AND Lucy, who has her own dignity and ability to grow with God through her trials). And make no mistake: God DID help Lucy, through those normal non-celebrities who were right next to her and helped her through her struggle. And God may be helping Lucy now, in re-evaluating her (perfectly relatable) childhood expectations that others will intuitively know what she needs without her clearly communicating this to others in time for them to provide for that need; or in learning that her heroes are humans and that Christ is the one she should look to, not you (that is, she can see Christ *through* you -- but she should also become able to see Christ through the other people who helped her on that plane).
My point is not to demonize a young girl, with whose experience I can certainly relate. My point is that there are demons out there, and I wonder if they might be simultaneously fanning the flames of Lucy's disappointment in you, and your fear of Lucy's disappointment in you, to the point that Lucy allowed the enemy to chase her away from the conference, and you may have allowed your rational sense of proportion to be obscured, and a spirit of self-blame and doubt in your own responsive love of God to kick in. I just wanted to add that outside perspective here; that yes, while we all need to be attentive to God's call to us in the moment, it sounds like you *were;* it just also sounds like while you were on the edge of your seat, paying attention, ready to be called, *God wasn't calling you that day; God was calling other people* to help Lucy that day, and you and she are still struggling with the fallout of different expectations and desires that God would have called you instead. But that was God's call, and we can't second-guess it.
P.S. He loves you, you beloved son.

I love how much thought you have put into this. My only concern is that we do not know if the Holy Spirit prompted Fr. Mike to act and he still didn't listen. This is what it sounds like to me. You could be right in your thoughts, but you also could be completely off with your perspective. As I too might be wrong. Yes he is sort of a celebrity. Yes, he is not perfect. But we do not know his heart. God does, and his confessor does.
We can all relate to this story. Feeling and knowing we should reach out, and then rationalizing to ourselves why we don't need to. I have often had moments where I did't respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. And by the grace of God, I am responding more with a yes. But I still sometimes let the moment pass. This talk encourages a reflection of one's life to see when they respond and act and when they don't so that one can pray for the grace to act.
I'm not sure why but I felt like I should respond to you. I don't normally post on youtube.
God loves you so much and is pursuing your heart. God bless.

@@ChristineOrzechowski Thanks for your thoughts as well :) I agree with you that neither of us know Fr. Mike's heart; only God does. I think it's probably good that we both commented (especially if he reads the comments for consideration), because I think both perspectives are important, and hopefully he can discern his own heart with more clarity. In my case I felt it important to speak up in case he was suffering from scrupulosity (especially with the extra (and potentially unreasonable) pressures he's under as a well-known priest, and in that unique situation he described) -- and at the same time of course I agree that it is absolutely true that if the Holy Spirit was calling him, he should have responded. And thank-you for in your own life saying 'yes' more often than you used to :)
As a person who struggles with scrupulosity though (and benefits from priests' reassurance in confession), after seeing this confession of Fr. Mike I just wanted to offer Fr. Mike some reassurance as well, in case he was beating himself up the way I sometimes do, when it's technically not called for (which seemed to me possible based on the circumstances as described). But of course, in the end only he and God can know for sure what's called for.
      God bless you and him!

I liked your thoughts on this. I also agree that it must take prayer and a good deal of discernment to properly assess wether or not Father turned away God's calling for him at that moment of not. Sometimes something that seems good does not come from God, or maybe it did... He will let you know if you ask for His help.

I've heard this story over and over about Lucy, and I think that Father Mike is being pretty self-critical. I understand the point he is making. But he was on a plane in crowded conditions, and getting up and imposing himself on the situation could have been called getting in the way.
I recently saw a Jordan Peterson video where a man charged the stage crying out that he needed help. And Jordan Peterson leaned forward and spoke to the man. He said we will get you help. But he did not get up. Security concerns and his own situation on stage would have precluded that. But it was obvious that he cared, and you knew that he followed up with the man afterward.
I understand that Father Mike has to present a certain image at all times, but it likely could have been very unrealistic for him to get up and that tight airplane and get involved. It seems like it was a snap judgment that he had to make, and he made a decision that he now regrets. But I don't think it's indifference. I think it's a tight airplane
