    After a few years, Akane changed the way she held her drumsticks, which can be seen in this video from 2016, when she held them "properly". It was probably related to her health problems with the spine. So this is not a "technical error", but her conscious decision.

    The heart of this song is an instrumental that Kanami wrote. Story goes that Saiki really liked the song and saw another future for it. She asked Miku to write lyrics to it and Play was born. Interesting how these song evolve into what we hear. This song blew me away the first time I heard it. Awesome arrangement. Great analysis.

    The psychology of fandom is so interesting. I’d be willing to bet if you talked to Akane and asked her why she held the sticks that way she’d either say it was just for that song for whatever reason, or that she had fallen into bad habits which she has since corrected (since this isn’t something you’ve seen in other videos). Either way I’m sure she wouldn’t be offended and you’d likely have a great time together talking about drumming.

      I couldn't agree with you more, and honestly - if she showed me what benefits it could have - I'd walk a way having learned something new and being thankful for it. The issue these oddly emotional and defensive odd balls seem to have is they think that me asking basic, factual questions or making clear statements about drumming efficacy is in some way hating her or being a dick. I don't think anyone of the drummers thought that when Gus Moller went around and interviewed them all regarding their technique. I would cherish the day she and I could just have a nerdy drum chat. Have a great weekend mate, be well.

    Your comment about Akane's left hand made me wonder if this was a personal choice for the song or her drumming style in general. I looked back at your reactions to Sense, Domination & Onset and saw that her stick is farther back for those songs. So I believe that was a song choice, not necessarily a style choice.

    • @DRUMNERD
      @DRUMNERD  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is a very valid point of view. It is likely that this grip choice was done out of need for the specific song choice and to that I absolutely yield. The issue I have with the trolls on here who say I'm jealous or a hater simply because I said - the fulcrum point of the stick is legitimately located somewhere and she might get more rebound and power by holding it there; somehow means I'm an asshole or an idiot who's jealous - that really confuses me. I love her playing, love the band and am a big fan of what she does. Happy Saturday and hopefully you have a great weekend. I genuinely do see your point and it does hold water. Be well.

    Band Maid are horrible with super jumpy videos. You'd have to subscribe to Prime to see them but they have several videos of just one member playing so you can full focus on Akane. Problem is its behind a paywell and would get struck. She shifts her grip a lot even during this song if you watch closely. If you look at old videos like Thrill she played a lot with her shoulders. After a hiatus due to a back injury, she modified her style a lot.

      Alright mate, I normally don’t go this hard but you sir can seriously get on your bike and fuck off. Just because you have an incel boner for her doesn’t validate your lack of drumming knowledge. There is correct grip technique and there is incorrect grip technique in terms of efficiency with the stick. You not liking science isn’t a factor in its outcome. So again, go fuck your self. @@DRUMNERD I only will say that Akane does shift her grip from song to song. I've seen her play holding the sticks at the base, then 1/3rd of the way up like she did here, and I think it was in her solo in Freedom she played with her grip half way up on the left hand and below on the right, but both hands grip changed by the end of the solo.
      During their Lollapalooza performance of Hate? she lost a stick. At first several of us thought she had broken one and tossed it, but thinking about how she changes her grip, she ma have lost her grip while changing during the song, so she tossed it and grabbed a new stick.

    You stop in the worst places. You should at least back up. And whatever you say about her grip, you're the TH-cam critic, and she's The Rock Star, thermodynamics be damned. And, speaking of physics, and the "genetically built in world we live in", whatever that means, maybe, being a smallish woman, she has to hold it that way to get the power she does. Maybe that's more important than than bounce balance. She and MISA studied at the Tokyo School Of Music together. I'm sure she's been taught every stick grip under the sun and uses what works for her. When you go on a world tour and make LMVs I'd actually want to watch I'll critique your grip. You may be the Drum Nerd, but she's The Beast. You asked, but I think you're just fishing for comments.

      Your comment only let's me know that you want me to roast you and give you attention; which I just won't do. And if you want to know who taught me - educate yourself and look up Pete Reilly, Bob Armstrong and Dom Famularo; enjoy. By the way, regardless of being a small girl or a large man, the fulcrum point of a drum stick will largely be the same, you know as it's a rather standardized length (although I should express that some sticks are slightly longer or shorter than others) to avoid you from trying to throw that in the mix. Facts don't care about your feelings and science is based in the real world; not one of your wishes and misinformed ideologies. Hey look, you also got some attention in this after all, well done cupcake. Be well.

      @@DRUMNERD If one wants the full power of a hammer as a lever to drive a spike, one holds it near the end of the shaft, not at its point of balance or fulcrum point which would be near the hammer's head. If I want to drive a small finishing nail, I hold the shaft near the head to give light taps. I'm not a drummer but I've driven tons of nails. Drum tutor Rob Brown with 300K followers says the hand position on the sticks can vary greatly according to what one wants to accomplish on the drums. Makes sense to me and I assume a great drummer like Akane knows what she is doing. I'm not a troll but blanket statements can sometimes be perceived as being limited and unfair. Just saying.

You're on a different planet if you think I'd forgo having my coffee, least of which because someone dislikes me drinking it. Finally, nothing on my channel is an act; I turn on my computer, hit record and just go. P.S - I only drink coffee, not ciffee.
