I think those Mirror dinghies would look great with some kind of "Bow Beard" mounted on the bow of the boat... Give 'er a "tug boat" look...

Nothing can be finer than bobbing about in a Mirror Dinghy on a nice day .

Rare footage of an albino Mirror dinghy in the wild. Lovely video.

love Mirrors Tony. almost have mine ready after a full re-varnish and paint.
trouble is, I saw a Hartley TS 16 for sale that I just couldn't resist, so for now the mirror sits waiting for the rest of her fittings to be installed, while I do a few touch-ups to the TS 16.
Ah well, she'll keep under her covers and in her portico for now. Cannot wait to get them both sailing again.

I know the feeling Peter. It was a revelation today, leaving the big boat behind and remembering what the little ones can do!

Love how you ‘buzzed the tower’ (Top Gun reference). Really enjoyed that Tony.

Sailing on public display is fantastic! I think this brings awareness to the sport and what a great way to showcase sailing. Well done gentleman! I was concerned at the close overtaking manoeuvre showed in fishingnoosa's footage. Fair winds!

That's gold Tony. Whoever got that footage nailed it. TONY: "Let's go and show off at the surf club"...... SURF CLUB: "You guys in the sail boats...get out of the bathing reserve".....haha mission accomplished! That tide looked like it was ripping out of channel.

As always, things took longer than planned, so we went out just before mid-ebb tide. By the time we were coming back, it really was ripping out. With a headwind, we’d never have made it back in. Fallback plan was jump out and wade back.

Just re-watching the drone footage and noticing the tendency of the mirror dinghy to almost instantly round up as the boat starts to surf the wave. I wonder if this is due to the hull speed being almost instantly exceeded. Any comments? The boats look stable throughout. @TonyKeyes

I'm no expert Chris, but I have since thought that if I was doing it again, I'd have the centreboard up, get my weight as far aft as possible, steer less than 90 degrees to the breaking seas, and maybe scandalise or even douse the main.

@@TonyKeyes that sounds like a great idea to me. That’s a positive of having a dagger board/centre board configuration.

Stop press: Fishing Noosa just posted some epic drone footage of us crossing the bar inbound, including my near-knockdown! th-cam.com/video/qFdwyXzqjTc/w-d-xo.html Thanks mates!

I assume you picked the right conditions to do this or is crossing the bar something you do regularly? I have never done that and consider it a scary proposition.

    • @TonyKeyes
      @TonyKeyes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

G’day Josh, and merry Christmas! No, never done it before, out of trepidation. But then we realised that in the right conditions the rollers would be no scarier than the surf we sailed into as kids at Redcliffe. And in a Mirror, the worst case we could imagine was capsizing, stepping out into knee-deep water and walking to the beach. I still wouldn’t do it routinely, but definitely will again on the right day.

    That tide would be 7-8kts?

I didn’t measure it, but it sure was moving!
