Exclusive: Inside the Airbus A350 Airspace Explorer

- During Dubai Airshow, I toured the A350 Airspace Explorer testbed aircraft. The specially configured A350-900 MSN002 is fitted with the new Airspace cabin.
Airspace Explorer is Airbus’ new dedicated flight test platform for demonstrating new cabin technologies which could be featured in future aircraft cabins.
During my tour, I saw several innovative approaches about “smart seat”, bacterial removing surface, Electro-dimmable windows, interactive connected galley, ultra-thin screen display, and an impressive LED cabin wall projection display.

It’s web application, no matter iPad or Surface, the application will work
I guess iPad has joined the ranks of brand names that became common descriptions like Band-Aid, Dumpster, Zipper, Escalator, Laundromat, Styrofoam, Frisbee, Kleenex etc.

I’ve only flown the A350 once and absolutely loved it :)
A350s and B737s landing feel quite rough unlike A320s or B777s. I wish they made A350s main landing gears more like B777s or A330s. Unfortunately I think A350s landing gears work quite similar to A380s. Boeing 777-300ERs main landing gears tilt at a greater angle so these can absorb pressures very well when touching down. I can't wait to experience A330NEO and Boeing 777-9X in the next few years.

Airbus should quickly sort out the paint issue with Qatar A350. This issue is tarnishing both the reputation and safety of this wonderful marvel of engineering.
From the reports, they offered their solution and QATAR are stalling
They really should. Not sure why they let it escalate this far, even cancelling the A321 order from Quatar.
Qatar did the right thing,you dont want a another Max on your hand!!! Composites has very tolerance when they operate outside of their norms.

I love this flight! I have flown in Qatar Airways A350. As an Indian, I am happy that Air India is getting A350s!!

If you take a moment and really think about it, these airplanes are marvelous engineering. These things are hundreds of tons and we are able to make them fly, really high and really far. Amazing how high we can achieve as human race if we work together.
I was a 787 fan rather than a350, but after seeing this i think a350 xwb is pretty insane, having electronically dimmable windows like on a 787. I wish further development and operation for both aircrafts.

It's the dreamliner next level - the sweet dreamliner.
Imagine this technology in a low cost carrier where they have massive screens full of advertisements flashing at you when you board, changing advertisements projected on the overhead bins etc etc. Not sure if this is such a great idea!
They might just do that during take off and landing. Everyone is watching their own movie screen during flight I would think. I've only flown on the 787 though.

Sam I am surprised that you just came across the windows that taint with a touch, in A350. I first noted the technology in 2019 on my London Heathrow flight from Bahrain in the 787-Dreamliner of Gulf Air. Thanks for sharing nice videos.
The thing is that the 787's don't dim completely - and it seems that they also have a slight tint to them when fully 'open'. The A350 ones do not seem this way.

Love all of the new tech except the electrically dimmable windows. It would be a nightmare for aviation enthusiasts as the crew could just lock the windows.
What we need is analytics on the crew and allow passengers to rate the crew on their duty performance. Airlines then should use that data for training and termination of employees.
An airplane window that can be dimmed completely and is centrally controlled by the crew is my biggest nightmare. That means you can't see out of the window the whole flight because flight attendants tend to sedate passengers to have less work to do.
If this would be used by Ryan air they would make you pay to look outside.
if not you can see adds on it. same with all the other options they are interesting for showing adds. And yes you have to see them.
They do the same thing in prisons. Let it get colder during the winter and turn the A/C way down during the summer so the population isn't' as rowdy, less likely to want to be non-corporative. When your cold, your only interested in being comfortable.
I really hope Qatar Airways and Airbus sort their differences out as soon as possible to deliver us the best A350 experience!

@@ryleferrer4876 Boeing spent 14 years and 32 billion$ of R&D inventing new methods of manufacturing to make their 787's
they ran into several problems, the main one was some kind of galvanic like corrosion I don't fully understand, where when you have so much carbon fiber touching some aluminum and attracting charge from the movement of air over it.
Boeing's solution was to make as much as they could out of titanium and invented different 3d printing alloys and metal sintering processes to minimize the amount of machining and material to make all of these parts. This took an enormous amount of time. Then they apparently have some top secret tech in the tail section that pumps air through it or something? Boeing did all this research and then caught airbus off guard when they announced the 787.
Air bus had to play catch up, and in ~4 years and with ~3Billion$ of R&D, the a350 was born. It was a complete stop gap and with that amount of pressure I think it safe to assume upper management didnt feel like it had time to talk to the engineers.
If you look at the majority of the "paint" issues, its mainly on every material seam, every fastener, and is ontop of the lightning mesh. My theory is that there is some kind of a reaction going on between the dissimilar materials. Those dissimilar materials are what's holding every structural part to another. Neverminded the fact that the elements are getting into a composite and will start to expand with insane pressures from rust and frost... That plane is pressurized like 30% higher than almost all other planes, and that can't be increasing the safety margin. Yeah theres no hard evidence yet of structural issues, but to me airbus has become unwilling to give any ground back to boeing, and their upper management makes statements as if theyre infallible. the Airline industry will be much more safe if BA and AB are in parity, not on their high horse.
