Learn how to make Tawa Naan (Naan without Tandoor oven) Recipe by Manjula
    Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour (plain flour, Maida)
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon of salt
    1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup yogurt at room temperature
    1-1/2 tablespoons oil
About 1/4 cup look warm water
Also need 1/4 cup all-purpose for rolling
    For Garnishing
1 tablespoon soft butter or ghee
About 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro
About 1 tablespoon chopped green chili (optional)
    1/4 teaspoon sea salt
We also need tawa or skillet to make naan, nonstick skillet will not work for this recipe. Iron tawa or skiller works the best for making naan.

    Thank you for the recipe.
I am from Iran and I got amazed at how many similar words we share with Hindi!
We call any kind of bread "Naan", but we traditionally have only flat and thin bread like what you baked.
We call that pan "Taawe" instead of "Tawa" and we say "Tanoor" insteed of "Tandoor".

This was so good, thank you Manjula :) great serving for 2 (makes 4 naans) to go with a saucy curry. I don’t have a gas stove, so just cooked in a stainless steel pan on the electric stove, I added a sprinkle of water then flipped the naan to cook the other side. I also switched out the green Chilli for crushed garlic. My partner thought the whole meal was better than Indian takeout.

Here is the US standard to metric conversions if anyone is interested :)
    128g all-purpose flour / plain flour
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp sugar
    60g yoghurt at room temperature
    1 tbsp oil
65 ml lukewarm water (65 ml is 65 g if it is easier for you)
Also if you don't have an iron skillet and just have non stick pans, I placed mine close right under the oven grill on max until they charred slightly, and they came out great!

REVIEW ... I am coming back online to write a REVIEW about this recipe. I just made it and it is AMAZING! This is one of those few online recipes that are AMAZING, EXCELLENT, 5 STAR CHEF Style. Manjulai Aunty , BIG THANK YOU! PS. I modified this recipe by adding my own topping which is (melted butter+fine choppedgarlic+shredded cheese= mix together in a bowl --> everytime you are done with a naan take spoonfull and spread over naan and keep naan in a steel hotpot container and cover.
5 star. BTW this recipe made 8 medium size naan. enough for 2 adults if they are not that hungry. so next time im doubling or tripling this recipe :)

Made it twice in a row even though I am inherently terrible at baking, which only shows how good this recipe is! I only had a nonstick pan, so the bread did slide off, but all I had to do was flip it to cook it all the way through. Brushed it with butter after it was cooked, and now I will always be using this recipe :)

+KooKooforCards Naan will taste great with any gravy based dish like paneer, chholey, rajma or even dum aloo. You could try it with non-veg dishes too. Many people have these with the 'dry' dishes too, i.e. those without any gravy, but personally I prefer roomaali roti with those. Enjoy India on a plate :-)

You don't need a Tandor oven! For latinos we cook tortillas without oven, only with a Comal, just like the one she is using, also we use a flat pan

Thanks Manjula, I tried the oven one but never got the right appearance. These came out perfectly, though I used yeast. I'll definitely be making these often.

I made some dough earlier, and let it sit while I did other things around the house. I’m going to make a garlic variant and eat it with my mom’s cauliflower curry! Thanks for the recipe :) my grandma wouldn’t let me in the kitchen when I was younger, so I’ve gotta learn these recipes another way.

Usually my Naan's come out tasting like a pizza base, but with this recipe they came out tasting like Naan! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I didn't have any plain yogurt so I used Passionfruit yogurt, but it still came out great. The Naan doesn't taste like Passionfruit and it's really nice and fluffy!

I just started learning Indian food recipes and very appreciate your help: naan comes out better, than store bought "tandoori" one.
I have real tawa skillet though🤗
Thank you very much! You weirdly remind me my grandmom, in spite of her being Slavic.

I'm in my 50s and started cooking Indian food about a year ago, Grandpa's kitchen, the curry kid and latifs, and stumbled across this channel today and subscribed, City Road in Cardiff a fantastic Asian community, the first time we went into Claire's shop here, spent nearly £75 on spices, big bags of spices so cheap, after marinating your chicken, we've found the air oven makes it look and taste like tandoori chicken, it even has that slight char-grilled look, the air fryer we have looks very similar to a deep fat fryer, making curries is very simple now after watching all these guys, I've got a 15 l pot when I'm cooking the curry base, I freeze them into these takeaway containers, problem with that is like now it's 11:30 in the night and I'm going to go and cook a curry, just a quick chicken korma,
