Archmage Ragdar Seriously is that growl even possible ? I had to go check the studio version again and live it looks even more impressive, emperor kings of black metal !
He also did the vocals for the old Norwegian symphonic black metal band Odium. Be sure to check out their album "The Sad Realm of the Stars", its a fucking CLASSIC and you're going to spend about $65 for a physical copy of that album if you are even lucky enough to find it.

I don't know what some people are complaining about. Yes, trym is better than faust in my opinion as well but they decided to tour with faust due to the 20th aniversary of In The Nightside Eclipse so, anyway they sound good and are reunited maybe for the last time ever so instead of complaining you should just enjoy it....is a classic
Not only that but this almost entirely old Emperor songs, not the very technical stuff later on, Faust actually sounds just fine for that earlier Black Metal sound as it was well, quite honestly far from perfect. He's not quite out of sync or anything but he has that more raw sound I remember from those old records, so good match.
Agreed. Second wave bands started with the aim of making dark & evil music, taking distance from the technical death metal. It was never meant to end up like it did; a speed-contest of drummers, guitarists turning to prog/avant garde, sweet synth harmonies and so on.. Emperor indeed took part in this evolution, while bands like Darkthrone & Immortal took other directions. (allthough Immortal started the speed-contest) The years 1991-1994 was the greatest time for the second wave of black metal. Emperor's Ep / split album with Enslaved -1992 is by far their best effort in my opinion.Nightside has great songs, but wrong sound & too much "aaaaaahh" -synth. Later albums are good, but very different in style.
I have to disagree with you that Trym is better. It depends on the material. On the In the Nightside Eclipse material, Faust is leagues above Trym. Trym always tends to overdo it on that material. I prefer Faust's more laidback groove in the older material. Trym may technically be "better," but that is subjective. His chaotic style does fit better with all material after their first album though.

That album is stunning! Someone on reddit once described it as "In The Nightside Eclipse on steroids". But I fear that will not happen, the album is in the shadow ow ITNE and the guys probably want to focus on their own projects than keep returning to Emperor.
A few thoughts: - When I saw Ihsahn with the white/gold Iceman and glasses, I was thinking that Man, he can pull this off and there is no need for any masquerade, just pure music (not that I don't enjoy theatrical performances a la Attila/Mayhem) - Faust is more than decent, and however not as fast as Trym, still great, and I really like how the bassdrums sound. It was also nice to hear the songs with a little difference - I think many of the Emperor fans are now 15-20 years older then when they started listening to the band, so this is where the laziness comes from :) - My compliments to Secthdamon for the awesome growls
Rejoice!!! They are coming back. They´ll play "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk" in it's entirety in Czech republic next year. They will probably play gigs elsewhere too.
There is something mystic in this music and that's gradually enlightening my body, mind n soul on every hearing. Hail Emperor n the art of Black Metal music \m/ \m/
Excellent show, brings back great memories when I saw them at Dynamo Open Air. Comments here about the looks/image on stage are foolish. These guys had their corpsepaint and bulletbelts already 20 years ago. It's the music that counts, not the image. One note: the performance should be at nighttime though, not in a sunny daylight ;)
SjrD79 Awesome. I was at Dynamo as well, my first show of Emperor: They where fucking brilliant then, and still are. I went to Wacken to see them, and it was amazing! Fuck the bad comments: jealousy is a motherfucker, and its about the music, the perspective on life. They still rule! Hail Emperor!
In 2003 I had the incredibly great opportunity to attend Queensryche live in Budapest. No one, including the press, would bet a dime on that they will perform Operation: Mindcrime album whivh was released 15 years ago and they had some more new stuff. Against all the odds, they did, bringing also on the stage even the original female studio singer who performed on that great album the as Sister Mary. They played every particular sound of that album, including even the parts performed by samplers!!! At that very moment they celebrated 15 years from releasing their greatest product ever, which turned to be also the biggest concept album of all times after The Dark Side of the Moon of Pink Floyd in the whole history of rock music. Why do I recall these personal memories which appearently have nothing to do with this video? I do it because the presence of Emperor on the Wacken Black Stage brought back the same feeling and thoughts. Both have been two giant concert performances celebrating some decade old releases!!! (and, unfortunately - as you can also see here, - both have been viewed by a crowd in which the most of the people didn't know where they are and what they're attending... too sad... but respect for those who relly enjoyed it!!!) That could also mean that the two albums could have an impact of the same order of magnitude... The only small detail that makes the difference is that EMPEROR IS THE NO.1 BLACK METAL BAND OF ALL TIMES AND THEIR "IN THE NIGHTSIDE ECLIPSE" IS THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE PRODUCT OF THE GENRE!!! I do't want to hurt any Black Metal fan by this opinion (and I consider myself a true - although I hate the former word in the present context - fan of Bathory, Mayhem, Immortal, older Satyricon - that's because I have nothing to do with their new releases, but they are even so a great band... -, Dimmu Borgir, but also Arcturus, Dissection, and many-many more...), but I really consider that this is the album that covers mostly the essence of what it called Black Metal. From all points of view. Darkness, but not obscurity, atmosphere that's "impossible to cast in words" (I wonder if any of us is such an extraordinary talent in poetry to formulate the unspeakable), harmonies, but no "melodies" you could easily whistle while walking to your job every morning. And I also think those 17-20 year old kids who composed those songs of this album more than 20 years ago - Emperor - managed to capture somehow that certain feature of the genre that not even its "main ideologists" could not formulate, but which makes Emperor a kind of "Pink Floyd" and the "Nightside Eclipse" the top of the top product of the black metal genre. I'm sure that many can argue with this statement, but few can bring some real arguments against it. Anyway, it's not my intention to start any controversy, but to express my opinion, but also my respect and admiration for this extraordinary band. By the way, hail for all metal and rock music fans! The only person I missed from the stage was Mortiis while performing the older stuff :) And one more thing to add: one major "evolutionary line" influencing the modern black metal genre is the Bathory line, especially the older albums which exhibit that razorsharp metallic guitar sound based on the higher frequency harmonics (like in the Bathory song "Enter the Eternal Fire" from the "Under the Sign..." album), and not the blunt, bass dominated one. Quorthon had the greatest influence on the Nordic Black Metal and I personally appreciate very much that one of his songs was put to conclude the setlist. I'm pretty sure that it is not a typical case to hear a Bathory song performed live (but maybe it will be one day, who knows?)... Now it was the case. That's what I call respect!!! THANK YOU, YOUR MAJESTY (OF THE NIGHT SKY), EMPEROR!!!
Turn the volume up as loud as you can, the recording does this video no justice unless you do so. I was at this very show in the front row. Pure magick! The audience was very loud as well and the legendary Emperor put on an incredible performance including Faust for the first time in around 20 years. Absolutely amazing!
A lot easier to appreciate this when it doesn't sound like it was recorded on a potato, now I actually get the hype behind Ihsahn's roots. Very groundbreaking music when it came out.
This Was Epic! Went to Wacken for this, couldn't have been any better. It was a great honor to be part of this event. Hail Emperor, Hail Ihsahn. Still after all those years they uphold their name.
I absolutely love this, I don't get the issues with the guitar tone or the drumming. I have owned this album since its release, the initial production was murky and the album was NEVER a blastfest, it was about the atmosphere and they have conveyed the atmosphere on the stage in such a perfect way. Stop fucking whining!!!
"this is our personal celebration of where we all started" It's a tribute show from Emperor to themselves and their fans. Anyone coming here and expecting another '06 show was bound to be disappointed, that's not what this show was about.
Amazing that they could manage to get Bard back on the kit for this set. Sounds amazing! The raw power that defined this release is right there! Effortless too. Pure. Wow.
Trym may technically be a better drummer than Faust, but this was the anniversary of In the nightside eclipse. Faust's drumming gave a lot of the "feel" of that album, something Trym cannot replicate. tl;dr It's awesome that they chose Faust as the drummer for this particular tour.
Agreed 100%, people complain on these videos all the time about Trym being better, and it's like sure he's "better" on a drumming level and he's very good. But for these songs there's really no way anyone can do it better than Faust...his rawness gives it that raw black metal feel, throwing you back to those early days that made this material so special
ihsahn you are awesome!! that voice... on some points seem like when they did anthems, just the same... too bad that this recording is too overlayed and loose all the quality! this should not be called HD... anyway being there must be fantastic!! Hail the Emperor!! the Emperor will NEVER die!
the vocal delivery is awsome, between the 3 of them they have all bases coverd, and i think its well done to boot, no stresses, no stretching, not overthe top or poor singing, weall we done i think
Very nice to see their live again! Hard to believe that 20 years passed. I grew up with this music. Samoth's beard still hasn't turned gray and it means that we are still young.. Hail the Emperor!
Screw the guy that said "If it's not with Trym it's not Emperor." Faust was the original drummer of In the Nightside Eclipse, and was only kicked out because at the time he was in jail, so it's only suitable he's on the 2014 tour.
Not a word needed to describe the importance and the majestry of this band.....as far as the tribute is concerned, Quorthon wil be proud while feasting in te golden halls of Vallhall. thank YOU emperor....
One of the chosen few black metal bands I listen to... I'm American so my musical pallet is mostly death metal and grindcore... This band is so fuckin awesome.. I hope I get a chance to see them some day... I did get to see Mayhem two years ago.. I also saw Behemoth at the same club in Rochester, N.Y. about a year before that.. Now Emperor needs to come so I can see them too...
that's the black metal i love! mystic, dark, mysterious, majestic, charming, magic, refined, well matured...Emperor is somehow the pink floyd of black metal! peace from Morocco
I accidentally stumbled upon this. Thank heavens I did!!!!!!! I am a big Emperor fan all the way from South Africa. All the morons complaining don't know how fortunate they are seeing all of these great bands. Hearing Into the Infinity of Thoughts Live just opened up a whole new dimension to this song. I listened to the song on repeat countless times on CD, but this rocked completely!!!! One hears so many other things live, but then again, also only because it is Emperor. Anybody knowing anything about music should know how difficult it is pulling off atmospheric black metal like this live. Ihsahn is some sort of god. His vocals are simply amazing. Geez these guys are good. Great to see Faust back on drums, although I rate Trym as probably the best metal drummer I have ever seen. I also don't think playing the whole album front to back is necessarily the best track list, but seeing it was their sole purpose for playing, it makes sense.
way too few people present at this concert. such an immense show tbh. i was also sad to see it played in the full light of day.. but hey, seeing emperor live.. all worth it
Aaargh..Emperor was one of my fave ones until the release of EP the loss of reverence(Candlelight rec.) back in '97 and IN THE NIGHTSIDE ECLIPSE keeps on my pantheon of finest and truest bm records(oct/15). Of course i wanted to see them live in this unique gig, playing entirely In the nightside, even being played during the day and Ihsahn's appearance.
Yeah, Zyklon wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Emperor. It is after all a side project of Samoth and Trym so I'd imagine this guy being easily accessible to play for Emperor.
I remember hearing this album in 1996/7. Was something so vastly different from everything else! That intro and into the infinity of thoughts still amazing, so is cosmic keys and my personal fave, towards the pantheon! Good performance, guys!
I remember when I first got into Black Metal when I was 16. I'm 22 now. It was 6 years ago but the feeling of hearing this kind of music, the original Norwegian scene was really quite engaging for me. So much so that I wouldn't pass up going back in time to hear it all for the first time again. At that age in your teens, hearing this kind of music had such an impact. The atmosphere was just unlike anything I'd ever heard. I think that's why so many people admire the genre in the first place.
+Nihilist And how the fuck wold you be able to tell? Oh you cant see one, what a fucking moron you are. Whatever, drumming sounds like complete shit, totally detached from the song, its like they had to get a drum machine to play and the best one they could get didnt quite fit, but was close enough. Not once did the band lock in and sound like a band, this is bad. Worst drummer ever, damn close.
This live concert is sooooooooooooooooooo perfect! too perfect! i ask all people who know the songs very well as i cause i hear them over and over again and had never heard a live gig sounding 1:1 to album every fucking beat! i dont know if im should be deeply impressed or total des-illusioned!!!
Fine day to die was an excellent choice for this event. Metal should be like blues or classical. Play the old shit and relish in your past. Emperor is (was?) one of the bands that gets this. And they killed it. Wish I had been there. Quorthon would have been proud. Emperor is almost better than original.
There's something about this performance that doesn't seem quite right, one of those things it's that you can't get aroused while they're playing at plain sunlight, it doesn't feel kind of majestic as it is when they played at Wacken 2006. Also, the instruments sounds pretty odd, but, whatever.
I agree. It seems to be a bad time, especially for black metal bands. And i think the guitars weren't loud enough (at least of what i heard through my speakers).
TwistedFandango Well, you were lucky enought seeing them live back at Wacken 2006, which I think it was an stellar performance, even tho I wasn't even there (haven watched them live, ever). By judging about their live videos, I have the same opinion as you and I actually think that I liked Trym even more than Faust. Nothing again Faust's performance or what he has done in the past, I just feel that Trym's presence and playstyle fills more in the band. But whatever, I'm glad that Faust got back anyway. I hope the Emperor gives a stellar show before they split-up again.
Ihsahn looks like a true jazz master.
He kinda looks like Robert Fripp from King Crimson

29:42 - 30:05 Awesome, allright !
Ihsahn uses fry scream so the vocal cords are closed making the air compression huge. Try doing quiet 'sssssss...' and you'll find out.
Holy fuck "In the Nightside Eclipse" played entirely!
Miguel Riveros Badass Album. Ugh. Its so fucking amazing!!
Just look at how young they still are. These black metal bands were just teenagers in their time.
❤❤❤
I think the bassplayer really added a lot to the show, good to see.
He's a total beast!

Definitely one of my favourite concerts of this year. Ihsahn has an aura, it's beyond words. But that crowd was a shame :(
The band was awesome but the crowd just stood there...
gratefulfilth It was too hot to do anything at all .... I respect the band for playing in the heat and the few active people in the front.
85Sleepwalker I saw Ihsahn at Wacken last year, I would have been moshing, but it was pushing 40 degrees celsius that day :( Fecking German summers
Crowd was a disgrace for legendary Emperor with Faust!
Glad I can say I was in the crowd though!

What a set-list!!!
Faust and Samoth back on the stage together. I like that.
Faust!!!!
really gives it that old school vibe....original drummer!
Sounds better than Trym does nowadays. Trym has never been a clean drummer but the man is just not on his game anymore.
Yeah he’s a KILLER drummer!
Fucking brilliant! I really hope they'll do an "Anthems..." anniversary show in 2017 as well! Hearing that whole album live would be amazing!

41:14 Wow. Even Pikachu is a fan of the band.
Not only is he a fan, he was head banging at the far right 40:42
"They told me Obscene Extreme Fest was a bit different... oh well"
Turn the volume up as loud as you can, the recording does this video no justice unless you do so. I was at this very show in the front row. Pure magick! The audience was very loud as well and the legendary Emperor put on an incredible performance including Faust for the first time in around 20 years. Absolutely amazing!
52:36 his old voice is back!
A lot easier to appreciate this when it doesn't sound like it was recorded on a potato, now I actually get the hype behind Ihsahn's roots. Very groundbreaking music when it came out.
Black metal sounds best being recorded on a potato
This Was Epic! Went to Wacken for this, couldn't have been any better. It was a great honor to be part of this event. Hail Emperor, Hail Ihsahn. Still after all those years they uphold their name.
I absolutely love this, I don't get the issues with the guitar tone or the drumming.
I have owned this album since its release, the initial production was murky and the album was NEVER a blastfest, it was about the atmosphere and they have conveyed the atmosphere on the stage in such a perfect way.
Stop fucking whining!!!
great show! i'm still waiting for the spiked shoulder pads ihsahn! :)
"this is our personal celebration of where we all started"
It's a tribute show from Emperor to themselves and their fans. Anyone coming here and expecting another '06 show was bound to be disappointed, that's not what this show was about.
I was there, all the way from Australia. It was the highlight of Wacken 2014 for me
All the way from Australia to support a hate criminal murderer?
Fantastic performances . They are truly masters of Black Metal . I actually prefer some of the performances here to the studio version !
Actually sound better live than studio
слушал этот альбом в 95 году когда в школе учился. было круто.
Amazing that they could manage to get Bard back on the kit for this set. Sounds amazing! The raw power that defined this release is right there! Effortless too. Pure. Wow.
This sounds better than a studio release! Absolute Masterpiece.
As I recall Faust was not kicked out, he was already in jail by the time the album came out. And Samoth and the bass player who played on the album,
Fucking amazing. I love how emotional they look. True passion :)
Gets me a bit emotional too to be honest.
Trym may technically be a better drummer than Faust, but this was the anniversary of In the nightside eclipse. Faust's drumming gave a lot of the "feel" of that album, something Trym cannot replicate.
tl;dr It's awesome that they chose Faust as the drummer for this particular tour.
He has more feel, way more character
Agreed 100%, people complain on these videos all the time about Trym being better, and it's like sure he's "better" on a drumming level and he's very good. But for these songs there's really no way anyone can do it better than Faust...his rawness gives it that raw black metal feel, throwing you back to those early days that made this material so special
I mean, he's a murdering piece of shit. The fact they even entertained the idea of bringing him back is disappointing.
@@purgatorialuk You're on a black metal video page. Murder, bigotry, hatred, nihilism, Satan, misanthropy etc are standard.
@@jonathanbutcher8178 Generalising black metal like that is also the problem. 1994 was a long time ago.
This is my first time listening to Emperor the music sounds Great!
ihsahn you are awesome!! that voice... on some points seem like when they did anthems, just the same... too bad that this recording is too overlayed and loose all the quality! this should not be called HD... anyway being there must be fantastic!! Hail the Emperor!! the Emperor will NEVER die!
This was one of my greatest moments at a festival. wish they had headlined though. Would have been better in the dark! And a longer set!
the vocal delivery is awsome, between the 3 of them they have all bases coverd, and i think its well done to boot, no stresses, no stretching, not overthe top or poor singing, weall we done i think
Perfect set list.
Caught this set a Bloodstock 2014 in the night time. Melted my brain!
Uma banda espetacular! Ensaia e sabe o que faz! Alinhada e afiada!
Amazing show !
Emperor should return one day releasing a new album.
What an amazing performance. Hail to the black wizards.
Very nice to see their live again! Hard to believe that 20 years passed. I grew up with this music. Samoth's beard still hasn't turned gray and it means that we are still young.. Hail the Emperor!
ESPECTACULAR COMO SIEMPRE, ESPERO VERLOS EN MI PAÍS, GRANDE EMPEROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For legends they came on at a very early time....
Man that drummer is really killing it
I see what you did there
🤣😂
One of the chosen few black metal bands I listen to... I'm American so my musical pallet is mostly death metal and grindcore... This band is so fuckin awesome.. I hope I get a chance to see them some day... I did get to see Mayhem two years ago.. I also saw Behemoth at the same club in Rochester, N.Y. about a year before that.. Now Emperor needs to come so I can see them too...
The guy sitting behind the amps and watching Faust is scary!
almost as scaru as fraust
Faust is more scary
Last few days I keep listening this concert. So intens and heavy!
aaah fucking hell yeah!! A FINE DAY TO DIE!!
that's the black metal i love! mystic, dark, mysterious, majestic, charming, magic, refined, well matured...Emperor is somehow the pink floyd of black metal! peace from Morocco
Значит надо быть фанатом этой группы.но ведь это не Блек метал..
Me at 1:04:13 and 1:07:43, fuckyeah, Emperor eclipsed Wacken.
🤘🏻🇲🇽🤘🏻
1:00 Tipico chileno
+Catalina Muñoz Era yo :3
demas que si hahah Saludos!
+Catalina Muñoz Aguante chilito!
Chile chile lindo, lindo como un sol (8)
+Catalina Muñoz yo también llevaría mi bandera... aguante Chile!!!!!
A tour playing all songs in the demo "Wrath of the tyrant" would be great, this demo contains the darker songs of the band, the last 2 songs shown.
I was just having a conversation with a normie friend. He thought all bands must sound less good live. Another good counter example.
their recent live gigs are soooo much better than teir old studios!! they improve more and more with age, like good wine!!
Hails to the black wizards........Emperor music till the eternity...!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for share this masterpiece.
hell yeah, min 48:45 the flag of my country Chile! great show of the best band!!
What a beautiful ending. Hail Quorthon!! :') \m/
Chilling, I have so much respect for this band. They have the most mature attitude in black metal.
my favorite band of all time
one word to say here : ICONS.
thank you bro for uploading this Gem.
way too few people present at this concert.
such an immense show tbh.
i was also sad to see it played in the full light of day.. but hey, seeing emperor live.. all worth it
thay playes during the day to wake the world up!!!!
Small crowd? Ah well, BloodStock Saturday, I HAVE WAITED MANY YEARS FOR THIS
bass player is the frontman from zyklon.
Yeah, Zyklon wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Emperor. It is after all a side project of Samoth and Trym so I'd imagine this guy being easily accessible to play for Emperor.
Seven Lights and the keyboard player is easy to get being in ihsahns solo project's backing band
Best backing vocals ever!!!!!
Best BLACK METAL ALBUM EVER!!!!!
Best BLACK METAL BAND EVERRRR
HAILS EMPEROR!!!
Great show. Even live, Emperor knows how to create one hell of an atmosphere.
These guys are AMAZING live! What a great performance. Newcomer to black metal here, I'm pleasantly surprised! \m/
I don't understand why the fuck they not put the best bands in the night?!?!?!?!?!
@@wOOdY94100 This is so true.... And being around when it all happend was breathtaking.....
Is that Bard Faust on drums?
Johann Bruxollini yes he is
It's O.J. Simpson.
Only time i have ever heard a crowd fall silent in anticipation of whats comming next. :D
its not often to hear a band without drumtriggers, and this live
+tonydamaga oh, right, There's no triggers on his drum set
+Nihilist What's wrong with triggers?
+Nihilist And how the fuck wold you be able to tell? Oh you cant see one, what a fucking moron you are.
Whatever, drumming sounds like complete shit, totally detached from the song, its like they had to get a drum machine to play and the best one they could get didnt quite fit, but was close enough.
Not once did the band lock in and sound like a band, this is bad.
Worst drummer ever, damn close.
mkay
+The Sickness .....idiot
This live concert is sooooooooooooooooooo perfect! too perfect! i ask all people who know the songs very well as i cause i hear them over and over again and had never heard a live gig sounding 1:1 to album every fucking beat! i dont know if im should be deeply impressed or total des-illusioned!!!
Faust still rules!
31:48 pause it. Great camera shot with the sun flare.
There are also a few after this from the same perspective but that one is my favorite.
Faust does a much better job on the earlier stuff, really good to see him play, especially on wrath.
I saw them both at Wacken 2006 and Hellfest 2014. The night gig at Wacken was MUCH better, both performance and atmosphere.
Yeah, it sounded a little, dare I say, "empty." I'm glad it's not just me.
Ricardo Soria it was the mixing who ever the hell did sucked ass
These guys are legends. Started at 17 years of age. Wow. Much respect.
Emperor with fashionable glasses and a white Iceman with gold hardware.. Well now i've seen everything xD
That guitar!!!!!
I nearly died when I saw that. And I'm a drummer!
Black metal concert in afternoon sunlight. Very trve. ;)
***** Yeah, the guy they had introduce Emperor even made fun of it.
BeardedDanishViking I am the sunburnt wizards
eon14873 LOL! Even better! XD
Awesome looking Iceman, the color scheme reminds me of Tosin Abasi's signature model.
Damn that drummer is killer!
