My brother Ted and I met Brooke and Dave Whipple through the Alone show on History Channel. They competed on season 4 as one of seven groups surviving on Vancouver Island. Most of the contestants on the show make fast friends because they’re all so like-minded. It was no exception with me Ted, Brooke and Dave. We’d stayed in touch with them and watched Brooke in season 5 of Alone which was in Mongolia. She did back to back seasons!
Last week we finally got together with them for the first time since 2017 after Brooke bought a remote property in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Ted and I brought our wives Tori and Heather who were excited to meet Brook and Dave. The dogs came along too.
The four of us drove in one vehicle for about 6 hours to the UP for the meetup and checked out the property and surrounding area. We talked about our experiences on the show and listened to Brooke and Dave’s awesome plans for their new property. They had a great walled tent set up and we set up our canvas tent and wood stove beside it.
We then had a celebratory beverage and cooked over the fire on their hanging tripod grill. We also hiked a ways into a beautiful backcountry lake and picked Wintergreen Berries and also found Winter Chanterelles on the property.
Dave, Ted and I had a great talk where we went over a lot of our own feelings and understanding of survival through our experiences on Alone and through our unique wilderness experiences. I highly recommend subscribing to them. They are very inspiring people to say the least.
The finally of our stint in the UP was wrapped up with a trip to a gorgeous, high volume waterfall that was a very impressive site to see. We’re looking forward to the next time we get to meet up with them and to seeing what interesting things they do with their new property.

Tahquamenon Falls is the only falls that I've been to that is so colorful because of the minerals. I personally have seen it for a span of 50 years & it still looks the same. Thanks to Brook & Dave I have your videos to watch. You & your brother have wives similar to Brook that pitch in & get things done where they are needed. Will check both brothers new videos.

Wow the waterfall was incredible. Seeing you standing and talking in an atmosphere of pure air and no pollution. It was great seeing Buck again and with Bella Beans. What a gift to be invited to this awesome property and good friends to sit around a camp fire 🔥

Ending at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. I drove my 1969 VW Baja up there from Denver Colorado in the fall of 2016. It reminded me of a giant Rootbeer Float with all that rusty looking water and foam. Beautiful spot to have an outdoor school for sure.
Nice toad trip, ya ive heard it called rootbeer falls a few times. Probabbly some bug fish at its base. I enjoyed my time there and i hope for the chance to go back if the teavel bans lift.

Tahquamenon Falls, one of the most traumatic mosquito attacks we've encountered several years ago. (I know you guys are used to it). Hard to photograph while being eaten - except pre-treating my clothes really helped :).

Very enjoyable as usual.. I remember spending many weekends camping with friends. It was a great break from the stress and hustle and bussel of the city (Scarborough) when we were younger... You triggered some good memories for me.. THANK YOU.. !!

I see, well you never know as there are adventures of varying challenges out there but just getting out a little closer to home really does a lot too though. It’s all just about getting out and enjoying the outdoors and nature.

Welding gloves are handy as they are longer and cooks can easily burn wrists and forearms when working over hot coals. They usually are better quality and supple versus a standard glove. In fact, you may end up using them in any kitchen.

You guys are great and toughed it out. Athletic guys in a survival situation typically are extremely lean and thus have no fat reserves plus try to pick up the slack in group dynamics. An athelete's blood glucose can plummet as their glycogen is used up and their brain is demanding blood sugar. That leads to muscle catabolism and gluconeogenesis which breaks down muscle thus producing horrible weakness.
Yes I can see that. I do think that being in good shape is important but having a healthy layer of fat is a good idea. Obviously being in good shape and having muscle helps too. So, I think there’s a balance. I wouldn’t want to just go into a survival situation as fat as possible and out of shape. Another interesting thing is that lack of vitamins and malnutrition create depression. It’s pretty much unavoidable in a survival situation but knowing that going in will help you deal with it better when you get there.
I Use to go up alot to Marquette & Iron Mountain to hunt and camp. Extreme Northern Michigan especially the U.P. is amazingly beautiful! And "Yoopers" are some fun & kind (hospitable) people. And i just want to add (kept forgetting to in your other videos) is that Tori is a complete badass with that axe!
Marquette is as big a Vicky town as anywhere in Canada if not more. Great area indeed and awesome to be close to the Great Lakes like that.

One of the best, most underrated falls. Not too big, nor too small. : )
My wife is from the U.P. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary in August. So I've been exploring there for 50 years. I was hoping to get a clue about the general area where you are. The falls at the end helped a little. I found it interesting that while the guys stood around the fire and bs'ed, the women set up and broke down camp. Must be nice. Great video as always. I hope Dave and Brooke have their own version soon.

I also live in Michigan & I've been to Tahquamenon falls ( lower/& upper) & also been to your falls the mighty Niagara falls ours are like me peeing in the wind compared . lol
Hah, ya Niagara is amazing and the US side of the Niagara Falls is impressive for sure. The horseshoe falls is in Canada. They really are THE waterfall of the Great Lakes. Which hold 21% of the world’s fresh, unfrozen water.
And the big drown dog is chowing down .

Feather in a hat is dangerous in the wild. My father was almost killed by an owl wearing a feather in his hat. My father turned to the owl just as it was going to grab his head. The owl went up at the last second. There was a warden killed by and owl wearing a coon skin hat.

@@JimBairdAdventurer Yes and Owl can kill people by grabbing there head. My girl friend was walking one evening and we have a big Owl here that flew by her head just missing her. She had puffy ear muffs on It was in the fall. It was just about dark. I pray to God know one gets grabbed by an Owl. Better to be safe then sorry. Take care.

(That’s okay if you are)....just kidding, I like micro brews, or really any beer that’s cold...but not more than beer that’s free - that’s my favourite. Not sure how much land they have but it’s a good size and state land around there. Also, those steaks were 4.50 usd a piece. Pretty good deal.
