I have a few thoughts on this, all of which come to the same conclusion - it's NOT worth it.
1) You can purchase the standard RTR, be "wise" in your upgrade decisions (as many have pointed out, Traxxas went (purposely???) 'overboard' in selecting upgrade parts), and sell off the brand-new no-longer-needed parts. In the end, you'll have an RC that's better than their 'Ultimate', and the final cost will be closer to $100-200 more than the standard RTR.
2) You can purchase a roller from an RC chop shop, be "wise" in your upgrade decisions, and end up with the same vehicle mentioned in option #1, but with a final cost that's equal to, or possibly slightly less than, the standard RTR.
3) Taking option #2 one step further, you could sell off the brand-new no-longer-needed parts, and end up with a final cost that's definitely less than the standard RTR.
4) Part of why Traxxas is probably doing this...and, as already pointed out by others...is that Traxxas probably has a large number of unsold 'upgrade' parts in their warehouse, which is probably due to the fact that most 3rd-party upgrade parts cost less than Traxxas' own upgrade parts and/or those 3rd-party parts are of higher quality (such as 7075 vs Traxxas 6061).
5) The final point has to do with something many have suspecting for several months - that Traxxas is going to soon be releasing a new version of the X-MAXX, based on the XRT chassis. This is a good way for Traxxas to 'unload' their excess of X-MAXX vehicles and/or upgrade parts. If you think about it, this, combined with point #4, makes a lot of logical sense.
A few collectors might pay that price but most folks that's just too much. The metal parts also will probably make it LESS durable imo. Most companies will admit they have a slow selling item and decide to clearance it out by discounting it. Traxxas as we all know is arrogant and will NEVER reduce their prices. Personally I think their marketing team is getting complacent and is letting Arrma take market share. Don't get me wrong I love my Traxxas vehicles and they have marvelous support. That said Arrma/Horizon is winning. Why is it Traxxas is the only company that doesn't have a programmable ESC? Want 7.4 volts from your BEC to power a better servo? That's a no go with Traxxas.
It's cool, but I like to think in terms like this. You could also buy:
- 3x awesome $500 RC cars
- Build an insane M2C or Vitavon monster RC
- Buy upgrades for probably every RC you already own
Traxxas is crazy. The cost for that xrt is more than my mortgage.
Should be $1000. The price gouging is real!
like the C8 over selling price
$1500 dollars that's 90 percent of my mortgage payment no thanks
Close to my mortgage payment 😢 still be in the clear😅 Could get a couple a arma's off of that
90 percent lmfao bro that’s double mine
Welp you got to pay the cost to be the boss son. If you change your mind and having big dreaming about it. Pre order it now before it’s too late
$1500 no widekit, heavy asf with all the aluminum parts which means more breakage. All plastic xmaxx will be more durable for sure because of plastic flexing. But the upside to this is everyone going to sale plastic 8s xmaxx for even cheaper. 👌
Crazy prices
If I preferred X-MAXX or XRT over the new ARRMA 8S EXB RTRs, then I would actually buy one of these Ultimates (but I don't so I got an Outcast 8S and some upgrades). These Ultimate versions come with some upgrades I would almost certainly add on my own to a standard X-MAXX/XRT and a few that would be nice to have. To me only the steering links seem like a bad idea. The 6061-T6 aluminum is pretty good, not as good as 7075-T6, but better than non heat treated 6061 and 7075. It doesn't look to me like you are getting overcharged for these, I suspect it would cost more to buy all the upgrade parts separately. However, I don't think you are getting quite the value like you get when buying an ARRMA EXB over a base version of the same RC.
Well, to those who are floored by the $1499 price tag, consider this , in Canada the “ regular “ XMAXX is $1499 , then you have to buy batteries for it, so from what I’ve heard the new XMaxx will cost us about $2000 plus tax
I think this will be a commercial flop. I can buy 3 4s mojaves for that. Plus as mentioned in comments, i have a xmaxx but i like to upgrade things I want to upgrade, Not for me. And no aluminum better replace the motor and stock asc
It deff needs a Max 5 and 1100 KV. Why add weight and not upgrade the electronics
I feel its gona take away the legendary durability of the Xmaxx
Definitely looks great
I can definitely say that it is not worth the money. If I had the money and space, I'd rather get the Xmaxx or XRT and upgrade it myself. Definitely a hard pass for me on this one
They went way to hard on that price. Cant wait to see some videos on it
$1500 man HELL naw
ikr...😁
Its a Joke!
Thanks Jay Tee for vid. We all know how Traxxas plays with pricing in an attempt to reset the market and this is just that. I built my Xmaxx starting as a roller and came in a little over $800 with Max 6/1100 KV motor.
Canadian price is $2099.99 😂 Thanks for the update video JayTee.
hello, great video and nice rc channel
tks!
it's over priced trash parts no one needs it's just extra money spent on upgrades you don't need
traxxas has a factory full of un purchased metal upgrades no one cares about and this is how they move them
Exactly my thought.
Oh we got that at the RC hobby shop we still got the last one left and they are very hard to fine
Hard pass, I already have some of these upgrades in my Xmaxx. For $1500 (and help of a few sales along the way) I got the Kraton 1:5 EXB roller, Castle XLX2/900 setup, the high torque spectrum 1:5 servo, led lights, better tires and then used my existing dx5 pro. Compared to the my XRT (non special edition) I doubt the upgrades would substantively improve the XRT experience. If Traxxas threw in a better servo into this, maybe upgraded esc/motor, lights, cooler body maybe it would be worth the coin… maybe
1,500.00 for a few hot racing upgrades? Naw, they're not fooling me at all with this one. To the brand loyalists and fanboys, consider this. To a new consumer: 1,500.00 for the RC, another 200.00 to 500.00 dollars for proprietary lipos and charger, thats more than 2 grand for some hot racing upgrades and their 80-dollar servo, which is adequate because i put one in my Xmaxx. And yes, these are hot racing upgrades, i bet my house on it. To those with a lot of disposable income during the peak of the economic downturn, go at it. This is a bad business move by them in my opinion, but this is what wannabe corporate monopolies/bullies do, they attempt to price gouge the consumers and are tone-death and or dont care about the present economic difficulties many of their consumers are suffering from. I have money, but there's no way they're getting any of it, i already spent 1,800 on the prior Xmaxx because i was FORCED to, it wouldn't run properly without them! Man GTFO, Im protesting with my dollar, Arrma Kraton 4S all day 400 dollars lol, no more 1K purchases.
yea man....$1500 is pretty steep. maybe $1299 or most but at least include the wide kit with it as an option
2200 canadian dollars. umm no. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
no upgraded gears? upvoted!
They got all harden steel now
I saw RC Driver's video i was interested until i found out it was $1,500 and was a limited edition i also already have an X-Maxx that i put a Max 6 G1 and Pro-Line MX43 wheels and tires. I will probably not get any of the Traxxas vehicles like the Raptor R or Rustler 4x4 Ultimate i just bought all the parts to get my Outcast 8s EXB V1 up and running this month so i will be kind of broke until next month. Great video as always JayTee hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Same to you as well and be safe!
@@JayTeeRC Thanks, I will have a Merry Christmas and Happy New year with my great family. And I'm hoping next year will be full of great RC and Non RC good times especially since i will have my Outcast finally up and running. Then i'll fix up my XO-1 by next spring and maybe get a couple or few new cars next year.
Not worth it, xmaxx should be 700 and a plastic geared servo and powder metal gears is bs
No way
Way out of my price range no THANKS Traxxas and I am a big fan of Traxxas
ikr
I have the V4? Xmaxx so i have no interest. Ninthislandrc hits it spot on. You know you're going to be doing more upgrades like D pinion, bolted arms instead of pins. Split center shaft ect
I think it rocks and has a place among all my others... It's a total badarse!
Belted on a basher 🙄 I wish they would just make better quality rubber for their tyres and a better power system. Maybe a hingepin improvement ?.. does look really nice though
Im debating between the xrt ultimate and the kraton 8s. Which do you think is better? Thanks. You think the xrt ultimate is worth it?
Kraton 8s EXB new one
@@JayTeeRC is it faster?
@@joemomma707 yes. XRT is good too but Lipo size us limited. smc has some that can fit. cant go wrong with either truck tbh
I hope with the raptor R they’re developing a light kit that has some sort of magnetic or otherwise automatic connection. The break away cable system is so lame.
Traxxas should have done this to the lower models
They do you idiot
That’s just ridiculous! It looks awesome but for that price right out no thanks ! Armma hurting them in sales 🤣🤣 they desperate!! If it came with a castle/hobbywing system program card I would consider!!! ❤
Anything that ships with the 3500kv motor doesn’t have the center diff included. I don’t know if they still make the old crappy plastic diff, they shouldn’t if they do, but the 6780 is just too HD for the weak lil 3500kv, particularly the 1/8” shaft. Traxxas was fine putting it in the hoss with the 5mm shaft but they know the 1/8 shaft will sheer with the 6780.
I like the slipper better u can adjust all the unnecessary wheelies
traxxas makes amazing cars I have an xmaxx and maxx and x01 and 4tec 2.0 but these meaningless upgrades aren't instilling confidence in the brand
the reason these upgrades are meaningless is because it's hard to find any real upgrade video anyone has made where they recommend these parts at these prices so forcing these into this upgrade makes me think they don't actually care about the customer
this is why I've transitioned to a losi super baja rey 2.0 and a losi... promoto from a brand that doesn't do this garbage
Love my xmaxx ..but that's a hard no!
They only got green and blue
That's crazy man! I've already seen vids on this one and the new Xmaxx Ultimate where new parts broke on the first run. No way is it worth it. Just my opinion.
Oh man that is crazy! I'd definitely be trying to get my money back then
Arrma never raised there prices with all there new hope up on exb6s
Jay…Definitely not worth it… There are better trucks for less money..Just my opinion…
yep
Waaayyyy to much. Maybe a couple dollars more 50 -100 more but 500 more is ridiculous. I don't bash or run any of my rcs hard enough to break that stuf. Looks good but not necessary. My xmaxx still looks brand new. I'll just replace parts as needed.
Traxxass tripping i bought Chrysler 200 for 1600 and it a do 100 on the freeway all day money well spent 😂😂😂
Lol naw iam good ..won't be getting that
No, it’s not worth it in because they’re aluminum ain’t that good
$1500? 🤣😅😂
No not worth it. Maybe 700 as a roller. But 1500 for that way to expensive car running crappy electonics. No thanks
Y’all better get one. Before it’s all gone quick
😂🤣... I think 99% of the ppl on the channel pass in this one...
Traxxas will never do anything but in house electronics. The only non traxxas electronics part available in a traxxas is the mamba monster 2 esc. Literally everything else is all made by traxxas (aside from maybe the boat esc)
Absolutely NO WAY theres $1000 in aluminim upgrades on that xmaxx, also they put aluminum where plastic is more forgiving like the steering links.... I love my XMAXX but just buy a regular one and upgrade it based on some youtubers like Kevin Talbot or Duper Bash
I love me some Traxxas, but I'm gonna have to pass. Upgrade the motor and esc also, then we can talk.
💯
Nope
0 he broke both of them both the links
Okay I know I skim through it and I did see him doing several nose Dives as well.
@@JayTeeRC yeah at the very end of the video he ended up saying he actually broke both the second one was off camera. But yeah that's crazy for an upgrade
Buy a regular XMAXX or XRT and upgrade with better aftermarket products. $1,000.00 in upgrades? Lol not worth it unless you're a Traxxas fan boy or collector but to the average basher, it's a waste of money. Like the old saying goes, CHROME DOESN'T GET YOU HOME👍😂👍
Plus a lot of these youtubers are sponsored so a lot of them either get it for free or a big discount, unlike the average consumer not so much.
Ultimately overpriced Traxxas with the XX Antichrist Beast company.
$1000 in aluminum because Traxxas aluminum is apparently made of gold. Absolute joke of a price and vehicle.
Get a DBXL or something from Arrma.
Makes no sense I’m losing love for the hobby as prices go up and rc company’s with all that baiting the consumer schemes!
No. Their upgrades are trash
Bought my xmaxx 1st production run as 6s. 2016 i believe. Is now a xmaxx 8s fully converted over the years with some aluminum hop ups. Tried after market tires, went back to stock. Went back to plastic diffs and some other bits. Got heavy an ran to hot in 80+ weather. 4 SET OF TIRES, 3 BODIES . 4 3S BATTERIES, 2 4S BATTERIES, COLORED ARMS, CUSTOM BITS. OVER COUPLE GRAND AN STILL MY FAVORITE BIG TRUCK. Spent over an above 1500.00.😊😊😊😊 also own arrma 1/7 fully modified aluminum talion beast. Steveoarrma517
