@Nathan-DTS I feel like you cant expect people to love you if you aren't even capable of loving yourself first off which as above said is kinda harsh but I feel like if someone who doesnt love themself falls in love and is in a relationship they can too easily make the other person feel guilty bc of their own self hatred if that makes sense
James R he’s talked about how writing helped him with his emotions, but performing made all the anxiety comeback which is why he no longer performs today.
Watching back old videos, I now see the anxiety, depression, and panic happening all over Bo’s body language. After hearing “Make Happy” again, it made me tear up now knowing what he went through. I have depression, anxiety, and know how those can affect every day life. Also, watching “Inside”, it hit close to home with his experiences. Thank you, Bo, for all the intensely deep thoughts evoked through your music.
@@itzolive3738 he disappeared for a while. He was and is battling mental health issues (I don’t know what) and he wasn’t and isn’t happy with how comedy has panned out. The more you watch him, the more the innuendos, comedic responses to serious issues, etc. the more you will understand how he views the world as it really is. How the people he looked up to are now people he doesn’t like. (Maybe even despises).
That one left me so shocked and stunned and sad for him, for us, for the world. I am amazed at how he could take such sadness and craziness in the world and his feelings about it and turn it into art....beautiful music. But, I love his honesty and putting himself out there, for others who maybe struggle with these similar feelings. I am a forever Bo fan!
i only ever thought about it after i heard this song, but when you hate smth, it's always with a passion. You don't hate smth or smn for the sake of hating, that's rarely done or only done out of boredom. But if you truly hate smth, it's an obsession. The more you occupy yourself with it, the more you know about it, hear about, live with it until it becomes a part of you. What else could happen, if you keep smth around yourself for long enough? If you're into plants and keep being into plants, it's at some point a big part of your life because you have a bunch of plants crwoding your entire living space (I'm talking about my mom. She has an obsession with orchids, she has over 40 of them suckers). Same goes with stuff you hate. You keep it around yourself and oneday it *is* you. Happiness is different tho. It's not a thing, it's smth purely manmade, a concept. Like beauty. If you obsess enough about beauty, you will have a toxic relationship with your appearence and that of others. So why would it be different with happiness? Bo's song kinda proves this point. He sings an entire song about happiness, asking people what it is and wether they have it, how they achieve it, etc.

One of the comedians asked him to sing that song specifically. Bo seemed very reluctant but polite about it in my opinion. He mainly seemed really nervous. Bo is the best though, he nailed that song
“Art is dead” and ”Are you Happy” have some really deep depressing elements in there. Keep in mind that BoBurnam was extremely depressed and has diagnosed anxiety, that’s why he stopped preforming live
@Jarred Kiser generally speaking, you can get over it. Sure it's hard and almost impossible if there is no one to help you with it, but still there is a chance that you can get out of that hell...
Art is dead is the first song I’ve heard by him. And the moment I heard it, I fell in love. And I’m so glad I heard that song because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have ever discovered the brilliant Bo burnham
A lot of people say that Bo isn’t funny, or that the song format he uses makes the jokes have less of an impact. But I feel that the whole point of his act is to make you laugh and then make you feel bad for laughing by using his song format to really drive home that feeling of going of course. Like how in a lot of the more meta songs the chirpy melody devolves into him just angrily smashed the keys.
Vote for me Prince Edgar i think his style of presenting is jokes are too much for many people to grasp properly so they just say they’re not as impactful because they don’t get the jokes lol
@@strawberryscythe7132 I find it funny that people may think it makes the jokes less impactful when I feel the opposite, that some of the jokes wouldn't work or be that funny with out the structure of the songs.

rose hm if we are being honest it's so pathetic when the "artists" in the room try to strain and laugh at anything in the song. They try to find the comedy in sow noting that is not supposed to be comedic, it's a confession.
Hey Bo! I’ve been recovering from ahead injury over a year ago. Your song “ that funny feeling” came on and changed my life. I’ve been feeling like giving up, but that song gave me hope and inspiration to live my life. Thank you!!

im pretty sure he started slamming the keys down harder when they were laughing because he thought they werent taking the message of the song seriously, and he later said he regretted going there in the first place.
Art is dead is my favorite. Not because it’s relatable on a comedian or artist level. Just a personal level, I feel like I’m telling lies to everyone. I cried when I listened to the whole thing. It’s a huge vent if you truly look at the lyrics. It shows Bo’s thoughts. He may feel bad for being a comedian, which I relate to. It’s what he’s known for, being stupidly happy. Not being sad, not mad, the funny guy. I’m the funny guy..the guy who can’t talk about his feelings, cause every time he does he makes a joke about it to cope. Then everyone brushes it off like it isn’t a cry for help.
I haven’t heard “a world on fire” before and looking at the comments I thought it was actually a really deep song but when I got to it I laughed so fuckin hard lmao
I ADORE "art is dead", especially because of the part where the piano is getting more and more chaotic and he's singing "I am an artist I am an artist please don't revere me" while the camera zooms out to show a room full of people surrounding him, all staring at him smiling. You could say the same about christianity but the Bible is found to be historically accurate by many historians and atheist scientists. They agree there is a creator for the most part because they are logical and have explored alternative ways the universe created. Everything just leads to big bang or a creator(God). Much more likely there is a God(im christian) simply because we have the quality of God which is being creative and God created tons of specific and amazing things. Im not going to explain further God bless.
I think "Art is Dead" might still be his best song. You can kind of hear the sound of a noose being pulled around the neck in the lyrics. So, so much self-hatred there.
You should watch the entire episode of "green room" where he performed this one. He really keeps up with the other comics sitting there and you can see how much respect they have for him. It really gives the performance another nice tone to it.
I wish I could send a message to Bo. He's the most important person with a soapbox of our generation. I appreciate him so much. I hope he realizes how important he is. That “wait a minute” was then realizing that they were NOT laughing WITH him, because he wasn’t laughing at all. They most likely presumed that he was laughing inside too, but he wasn’t, and when they realized that, then it hits them. That’s my take on it anyway.
Just hear me out... What if bo is actually god? And this is his actual message. Also, thanks for all the love! Didnt expect to get so many likes and comments.

Damn hit hard
i only ever thought about it after i heard this song, but when you hate smth, it's always with a passion.
Watching those people stand around laughing as he sings art is dead is kind of surreal.

A lot of people say that Bo isn’t funny, or that the song format he uses makes the jokes have less of an impact. But I feel that the whole point of his act is to make you laugh and then make you feel bad for laughing by using his song format to really drive home that feeling of going of course. Are you happy is such a deeply sad song, it's tough to hear everytime but so amazing not to.
@@trinity2580 damn dude, you okay?
Seriously I thought the last half of gods perspective was hardcore but that hit me in the chest with a sledgehammer singing sweet home alabama
Gotta keep this on the top so people can use it

0:20 “From God’s Perspective”

Bo: sings art is dead
Comedians: laughs
Bo: starts hitting the wrong notes and sings angrily
Comedians: continues laughing
Bo: gives them the death stare
Comedians: wait a minute
I think he did that partly as comedy
@@confusedcat4387 not rlly man, like he literally says that its isnt supposed to be a funny song at the begining
@@danna437 Subversion of expectations and a bit of satire, like his first song from the perspective of God where he says "I don't want people to think I think I'm better than them".
That “wait a minute” was then realizing that they were NOT laughing WITH him, because he wasn’t laughing at all.
They most likely presumed that he was laughing inside too, but he wasn’t, and when they realized that, then it hits them.
That’s my take on it anyway.
@@jamietheangryoctopus5938 Watch the episode and you'll realise the context around why they asked him to perform the song.
"Are you happy?" is so underappreciated. the lyrics are insanly well writen if you take a minute and actually really listen to them.
Just hear me out...
What if bo is actually god?
And this is his actual message.
Also, thanks for all the love! Didnt expect to get so many likes and comments.
Welsey Hogan 😳😳😳
If this is God, I'd become a seriously devoted Christian because my main turn away from Christianity is the judgemental type thing from rules from 2000 years ago. Mainly about the whole LGBTQ+ thing and how its supposedly a sin and he's so chill about it soo
You can make a religion out of this.
@@antonievandermeer34 you've convinced me. I'll start a religion about bo burnham as god. Creator of all that is good and partially crude.

My favourite must be "The World's on Fire", for sure! Such masterpiece!
art is dead will always be my very favorite one of his songs. even when you're an amateur artist, you feel the weight of what will happen once you reach a certain level. the corruption of a system that idolizes individuals to an alarming point. my love- and as a result, heartbreak- for this song is indescribable.
feels bruh
So well said. This was the first time I've ever heard it (way WAY to the Bo Burnham party) and the line about Carlin rolling in his grave is so so true.
I get that. I too AM AN ARTIST and the song is painfully accurate.
I learned to play and sing it because of it
The fact that he said, that song helps him sleep 😢

World on fire displays a true depth of emotion, a classical masterpiece from Bo. Truly, I admire his skill as a musician, especially in world on fire.
Very deep and emotional
