First Wash Of The Year! - 1986 Kenmore 70 Series

- This is the first wash load of the 2022 season! This videos was by request of Pat Cola, who wanted to see a video with the new Pentavane for the 70 series. The machine did very well! there’s a couple little quirks I need to work out, mostly just the vibrating rear panel and the recirculation hose hitting the cabinet, but other than that it’s running strong! I hope you all enjoy, and if you have any requests, leave them in the comments!

I bought this exact washer and dryer set in 1986 and it lasted over 20 years
Full speed before the spray rinses start, love these old BD Whirlpools and Kenmores
And the mighty slow pulsating rhythmic cavitation and the end of the drain and during the spin cycles!!!
Love how if you fast forward you can see the timer indexing slowly.
You can see it on all of my machines, it’s just the lids open towards the back, so the timer is hidden from the camera while the machine is running.

For some reason I don't hear the old school Whirlpool/Kenmore woo, woo sound. It's hard to describe but it's the sound I would hear during agitation.
It’s not as pronounced in this washer, probably because it’s on a concrete floor, but this washer definitely has the woo-woo sound. It’s easier to hear in some videos than it is in others, but it also could be the fact that the belt is not quite tensioned correctly on it, which is my own fault.

What better way to start the washing season with a Whirlpool made classic Kenmore belt drive with Penta vane !...Thanks Drummerboy ! Always liked the gentle roll over these and the Penta swirls had. Of course with lower levels they were a little more agressive.

Where do you find the old school washers
Facebook marketplace is where I found the two Maytags. I got really lucky with the kenmore, as it was chilling in the electronics section of a goodwill. The Catalyst I had shipped from a friends house to here.
The Penta vane got right to work! Nice to see it in action, since so many of these have a DAA. I like the subtle woo-woo of this machine! Is it louder in person?
yes, the woo-woo is definitely louder in person. The camera seems to be really good at picking up a lot of the other noises but not the woo-woo lol. I’m in the process of working out all the other little sounds (like the vibration from the back panel and the recirculation hose hitting the inside cabinet) so hopefully the woo-woo will be more prominent!

It did a great job. I think the original Roto swirl agitator is a little more aggressive than the penta swirl. Either agitator it does a great job.
The roto swirl was really for the standard tub machines. I know they did make a super capacity version though.
The Penta agitators were a decent attempt for those early Jumbo capacity Kenmores in the mid 70s. Their main struggle was very full loads.
Drummerboy should get great wash action from this as the large capacity tub in this is smaller than the large capacity tubs from the late 60s to 1981
I would like to see a load of shirts and jeans in a full load in the Kenmore 70 Series
I actually don’t own any pairs of jeans, but I have a ton of shirts and other things I could wash.

Oh yeah with my request can you use the KitchenAid dual action agitator in the Kenmore elite catalyst?
Could I see the permanent press colors cycle on this machine with this same agitator and with a load of towels
Sure!
A washer Speed is at 800 RPMS gut a Kenmore washer is at 650 rpms !
These belt drive machines spun even slower than that, at around 525 RPM.

I believe this machine agitates at 68 spm
And Spins at 515 rpm
