Years ago I wrote to them to find out which size Torx bit their pocket clip screws took so I could go buy a wrench to tighten a loose one. They just sent me a new clip... and new screws... and a Torx tool... on the house.
CRKT has been around for almost thirty years. They helped end many of the import restrictions that were in place 20+ years ago. They are an outstanding asset to the knife community, as well as to the military.
The best knife is the one you have on you. I've seen people try to sell knives that were 4 or 5 hundred dollars claiming it was the best knife ever. If you look at the history of pioneers and people who depended on their knives they usually repurposed knives they already had. They'd reshape a butcher knife and that was their go to beater knife for camp craft. They'd have a small folder for more delicate work. Great job and love the recommendations from people who actually use the tools in the field.

Had 3 knife fights in a former life. Index finger fileted and shoulder driven through. Folders MAKE NOISE! Everyone in the bar hears it lock. music, noise, etc etc. Don't matter. Keep that in mind and avoid fights until ya can't.

I used to carry a CRKT M21. I loved the flipper on it, and I considered this knife extremely fast and intuitive to employ. I used it extensively for years. Then someone got me thinking about knives as they applied to personal defense. I am under the impression that inside a certain distance, one shouldn't bring a gun to a knife fight. If I am in a fight at inside the bathroom stall distances, where I am likely to be tied up and grappling, and my draw is likely to be contested, I will go for my knife before my sidearm almost every time. But this means I had to be confident in my ability to draw and employ my folding knife while in the clinch, or otherwise at extremely personal distances. So I had a friend with a plastic spoon attempt to "rob me at spoon point." We always ended up tied up, and I was never able to deploy the CRKT successfully, even though I had done it thousands of times before and considered it so simple and intuitive when not under duress, while trying to keep from getting "stabbed" and having someone grab and slap at my hand while I was trying to get it into the fight, it proved impossible. I didn't have much better luck with my Benchmade auto. And I no longer consider a folding knife applicable to self defense. Because the bad guy is not going to allow you to do your little wrist roll, your fancy flick thingy, that trick with the zip tie, none of that. It all requires too much coordination while struggling to keep your feet under you and desperately trying to not get stabbed. It is legal in my state, so I carry a small, by my standards, fixed blade, a Tops HOG4.5. No hinges to fill with pocket link and debris, no buttons or flippers to find, springs to wear out, no fine muscle coordination required. Just grab the handle, gross motor coordination gorilla grip is fine, and yank that son of a bitch out. I highly recommend anyone carrying a folding knife for defense to run some exercises with you.
Crkt is great! Their customer service is 2nd to none. I ordered a new clip for my crkt fossil. It had been discontinued so they said i could send in my knife and get any knife in their catalogue or get 50% of any other blade and keep it. I kept it and got the ramada for half price! I love em they are super cool!

I love knives! I will never go to the taiga without an axe. But the best weapon in hand-to-hand combat in a trench is an ordinary sapper shovel with sharply ground edges. Do not forget, an infantry soldier must carry everything on himself. A sapper shovel is a must. An axe it's overweight.
I would agree for infantry that always have to dig in. Again, agreeing if we were in trenches. However, we are talking camping and wilderness, where I have gone many trips without having to dig. Randy will cover his fighting knives in a different video. Thanks for watching, TR

You can do a hell of a lot with a garden variety machete. And in S. America they use a knife about half way between a butcher knife and a machete, blade 10-12"' long. very useful.waht mountain men carreid ws NOT a fancy damascus bowie or something it was Green River knives with about 5" blades. They bought Green Rivers by the dozen, as they lost or broke or wore out knives, and also traded them to Indians. I like the littel bearded ax. The Norse used those for boat building, among other things. They had bigger ones for wood chopping and fighting.
I have that same CRKT hatchet myself, chosen because it does look so much like a Viking bearded axe...everything positive Randy said about it has proven true every time I've used it. It's great for shaving kindling, splits tinder like a champ, and I've used the back of it to drive tent stakes...of course the best part is looking like a "badass" in front of the "city kids" by using a single tool for every stage of building a campfire with a single tool. (It doesn't hurt that I can also accomplish many of the same tasks with my Cold Steel SF, their answer to the Ka-Bar USMC knife...good for driving tent stakes, chopping wood by batoning the back of the blade with a stick, and shaving kindling with ease...again it's fun to see the amazement in the eyes of folks that likely weren't Boy Scouts or the like growing up watching someone using fairly easy if not standard bushcraft skills do things that make them think I grew up on some mountain somewhere only to find that I grew up only a few miles from Disneyland.)
I don't think you should be apologizing for showing gear that works. Especially with someone like Randy's *experience* paring down to the tools that work for multiple purposes. While shinny new gear might be cool, I much prefer gear that works! Thanks to you both for showcasing these!
I have that second CRKT (Obake) in my pocket right now, and that wrap is factory. It is my personal steak knife and I love it. I also have a waved Endura 4 and I tried to cut after one of those failure to lock, thank God for gloves.

My everyday carry at work and home are two different types of knifes . First knife is a (beater) work knife and the Second is a personal defense knife. Also carry multiple knifes and tools in my vehicle for emergency.
A few short video clips with your expert using each tool, along with him maintaining (sharpening) that tool after each use, would improve your content - especially for visual learners. Having said that, I did enjoy the undeniable authenticity of the presentation.
Really like the fact that Randy bring his own gear in to show us what really works and what he uses. I need a good saw, what does Randy recommend. Thanks for all you guys do.

I’m with Randy, I will take out my Kershaw Link and cut my steak/meat in the restaurant! That’s my edc folder, quality steel holds an edge, easy to sharpen, & I paid $30 for it a couple of yrs ago so affordable. But YES I will cut my steak with it…
don't be sorry about having old tools. sometimes, they just don't make them like they used to. besides that, Randy isn't a spring chicken, and likely has had many of his tools a long time. and tools that last over time is the true test of how good they are.
Great presentation. I have taken an old Carpenter's Hatchet and undercut the blade to make it bearded then put a small boys axe handle on it and also re-profile the blade Edge. So I get it chop feather pound all-in-one.
Folding knifes tend to break on me, not just cheap knifes. I love using fixed blade knifes, neck knifes, including pioneer woman paring knifes for concealing.

It's great to see what gear choices Randy made and why. There's a lot of wisdom there. My son was deployed to Afghanistan around 2012-13. He was with the 819th Sapper Squad and they were teamed up with 555 SFG. He had a lot of "fun" and came back with some subdued decorations to prove it. You guys know how to party!
Got a CRKT bearded axe just like that one. It's a favorite. Question do you recommend using a monopod on an AR-10 stock? Some folks prefer lead shot bags. I seem to remember some of the old XM- 21s having them. What's your take?

I have a crkt minimalist neck knife been wearing for a few years hardly ever take it off. Perfect little back up knife.
Quick tip: a zip tie can act as an improvised Wave on your Spyderco and other knives with a thumb hole.

I’m with Randy, I will take out my Kershaw Link and cut my steak/meat in the restaurant! That’s my edc folder, quality steel holds an edge, easy to sharpen, & I paid $30 for it a couple of yrs ago so affordable. But YES I will cut my steak with it…
don't be sorry about having old tools. sometimes, they just don't make them like they used to. besides that, Randy isn't a spring chicken, and likely has had many of his tools a long time. and tools that last over time is the true test of how good they are.
Great presentation. I have taken an old Carpenter's Hatchet and undercut the blade to make it bearded then put a small boys axe handle on it and also re-profile the blade Edge. So I get it chop feather pound all-in-one.
That bearded hatchet is badass and that baby hatchet is too.
Folding knifes tend to break on me, not just cheap knifes. I love using fixed blade knifes, neck knifes, including pioneer woman paring knifes for concealing.

My son was deployed to Afghanistan around 2012-13. He was with the 819th Sapper Squad and they were teamed up with 555 SFG.

Got a CRKT bearded axe just like that one. It's a favorite. Question do you recommend using a monopod on an AR-10 stock? Some folks prefer lead shot bags. I seem to remember some of the old XM- 21s having them. What's your take?

Great info but the crkt obake doesn’t have a belt clip and come with the 550 cord wrapping.
