  • Lady Gaga is getting real about her mental health and past trauma. The singer sat down with Oprah Winfrey to kick off the talk show host's national tour, "Oprah's 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus." During the hour-long conversation, the pair discussed a variety of topics, including Lady Gaga's sexual assault as a teenager. "So, I was raped repeatedly when I was 19 years old and I also developed PTSD as a result of being raped and also not processing that trauma," she revealed. "I did not have anyone help me. I did not have a therapist. I did not have a psychiatrist. I did not have a doctor help me through it."

    When you go through stuff like that at a young age I think the mind and the body has a way of like blacking it out until you get to a certain age and then it kind a like forces it to the forefront and it’s like makes you deal with it
    Edited a misspelled word

      sassierthangrassi Yes it happened to me multiple times when I was young by different people all through my teenage years I was constantly sexually harassed while I was walking down the street or the manager is at my work places and I never really realize that any unwanted attention especially sexual is the same as being molested or raped in my eyes. I grew up believing somehow it was in me and it was my fault because it had happened so much. I didn’t tell anyone the things that had happened to me when I was young even my best friends. When I became 25 I became severely depressed I have very bad anxiety my life is relatively well and I couldn’t understand why I was suffering from these things. I finally realize there’s a correlation between the things that you don’t deal with they manifest in your body into something else like depression. Finally when I begin to speak about it and let people know how I was hurt it felt like such the long process but now I can actually look back and see all the healing I’ve done. I think you have to say it out loud I think you have to talk about it to get over it. So Thank you so much for sharing your horrible experience. And I’m sorry someone did that to you

      So sorry for what you had to go through.
      I'm 17, I don't know whether this qualifies as a sexual abuse or not but about 2 months ago I was harassed by being asking for explicit sexual content over text by my school cab driver. I didn't respond to it then and in a state of panic deleted those chats but when that guy kept on insisting, I blocked him. I blacked out after that and told about it to my friends about 3 days later. I didn't tell my parents about it yet since they'd worry about me too much given I'm a single child and about to finish high school.

      Actually, I was lucky since the day he did this dreadful thing was the last day of my using that cab. After that, my classes went irregular and I started using uber. I saw him when my school got over a few days ago, I really wanted to kick him in the balls. Instead, I kept quiet and decided within myself that if he even says a word, I'll make sure to do something big about it.

      They are saying my daughter is bpd but she was raped at 13.5 years old by two older teens more than once. She has ptsd and talked about it a bit but she buries it to cope and doesn’t mind the bpd label as it’s “easier” meanwhile I know why she self harms, why she dysregulates sometimes and can’t get out of bed other times. I know. X
      She needs skills to cope to regulate, to not SH. Triggers happen and her pupils grow to black plates. I don’t want her to be given a “disordered personality “ for life, I want her to heal, she is just 17.
      If anyone is disordered it’s her damn rapists. How she feels is natural, justifiable.
      She has never spoken to a qualified rape therapist...the system here is awful. She has psychiatrists though. She has had hospital stays due to this trauma, it destroys you.

    There’s absolutely NO shame in needing medication. It breaks my heart that people who need it are judged. No diabetic would be judged for needing insulin. No one with high blood pressure would be judged for needing medication. Why is needing medication because you have a chemical imbalance in your brain any different?
    My mother is schizophrenic and bipolar. For the first 20yrs of my life, I doubted she would ever be stable at all, but then her doctors found the right combo of meds to help stabilize her and she hasn’t had a psychotic break in over 20yrs now! If she stopped the medication today, she would be in the hospital within a month. I’m so thankful those meds exist to give her a chance to be a mom and now a grandma.

      @neal cassady I can’t even begin to cover all that’s wrong with your comment! I’m a nurse and a survivor of child molestation & rape when I was 20. Whether she reported her rapist or not, has NOTHING to do with whether she needs help with her mental illness. Yes, the trauma & PTSD can worsen symptoms of mental illness, but reporting it doesn’t absolve you of the pain & trauma at all!
      There’s a reason it goes unreported so often. Instead of criticizing her about her experiences, how about try to learn more about it, because your understanding of the subject is greatly lacking?

    • @joymcclure564
      @joymcclure564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @neal cassady I UNDERSTAND why she didn’t report it. I’m kinda glad you don’t, because it means you’ve never gone through this kind of thing, and as upset as your comment made me, I would never want you to go through it.
      She was a vulnerable teen who was essentially trapped and tortured by someone she should’ve been able to trust and then her life’s work (what she cared about the most) was held hostage. These were people far more powerful than this young, unknown, troubled teen.
      It’s nearly impossible for an SA victim to fight through the trauma in order to make a case against their abuser. When they do, it’s frequently in vain as the legal system rarely successfully tries these offenders. Regardless, their legal team would’ve ripped her to shreds and what little remaining strength she had would’ve been gone. She barely survived this trauma by her accounts and only recently found the strength to admit publicly that it happened, and look at how people (like you) are tearing her down for “not doing the right thing” as a victim, how you’re blaming HER if they continue doing this, and trying to make HER responsible if they did this to others. It’s common knowledge in Hollywood that many producers SA these young people, but it’s swept under the rug by their team and the people who come out against them are ruined and silenced. As much as you want to believe it, the system does NOT support the victim in these cases. It’s a cold FACT. No one wants that to be different more than me, but I won’t be blind to the truth of it. I will not condemn a victim for speaking or remaining silent. She had enough of a fight to just survive and start healing. Just telling her story is a help for those like us.

    • @joymcclure564
      @joymcclure564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @neal cassady Did you even watch the video or do the tiniest bit of research before shoving your entire foot in your mouth?
      This occurred when she was 19 back in 2005 (corresponding to the few months she was signed with Def Jam Records). Her breakout song was released in early-2008 (“Just Dance”), so this was YEARS before she was famous for anything! So what kind of “power” did she have exactly?
      I’m sure you’re going to not try to spin it in another way to BLAME HER, the victim, because that’s how our society works. It’s the victim who’s blamed and attacked. You’re just proving my point.
      She was a totally unknown 19yr old girl, who was imprisoned and raped for months and the one thing that meant something to her (her music) belonged to these producers, which they used by threatening to destroy it. Because she was under contract, they could’ve legally destroyed it all and we wouldn’t be having this “discussion” because they would’ve buried her. None of us would’ve EVER heard of her, AND there’s less than a 1% chance they would have even been charged with anything, much less successfully convicted. To add to the complicated nature of this, if it occurred in 2005, she couldn’t have LEGALLY filed charges against the rapists after she had gained popularity in 2008 and couldn’t legally file charges NOW because of the statute of limitations in California (and here’s the laws on that: herlawyer.com/staute-limitations-sexual-abuse/#:~:text=California%20has%20no%20statute%20of%20limitations%20for%20rape,and%203%20years%20after%20the%20offense%20occurred%2C%20respectively.) However, in a very messed up caveat within our current legal system, THEY could go after her for defamation/liable, if she were to name them publicly! So this’s yet another problem with your argument.
      This’s one of a few videos & other media publications about what she went through. She’s so brave to speak out and, as a survivor myself, I’m disgusted by how people are attacking her. It’s the last thing she needs or deserves. Everyone thinks they know what they would do or what she should do, but no one knows until they experience it, and even then, you can’t know what she was going through mentally/emotionally/physically that would make her situation different than your own. I was molested as a child under 7 (not certain exactly how old I was) and was raped while married to my ex-husband. I was too terrified of my mom’s boyfriend to tell her when I was a child and now I don’t want her to live with the guilt, so I’ll NEVER tell her and very few people in my life actually know I was molested. I didn’t file charges against my ex, because I know that most people don’t believe you can be raped by your husband, and I had to go through a terrible divorce where I had to protect my son from my ex, so if I had placed a doubt in the mind of the judge about whether I was 100% truthful, it could’ve resulted in my ex getting visitation and he’s an extremely dangerous person. I’m suren my son would’ve been hurt, if his father had gotten to be a part of his life. As messed up as it is, filing charges against my ex for rape (which I had no PROOF since I was living with him as his wife when it occurred) would’ve ONLY made the court doubt me, because the victim always has an uphill battle in these cases.
      When it comes to Lady Gaga’s assault, here’s more info about it, if you don’t believe me:www.cnn.com/2021/05/21/entertainment/lady-gaga-rape-oprah-interview-intl-scli-wellness/index.html

    • @joymcclure564
      @joymcclure564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @neal cassady she risked a lot by saying her age and that they were her producers! I’m not some “super sleuth”, but was able to look it up (and mentioned it in the previous comment)!
      Do you seriously not see the irony in how YOU are attacking her (the victim)? And me? Are you in such a bubble that you can’t realize what you’re doing? I’m not defending the people who hurt her. I’m defending a victim who had an entire mental breakdown and required hospitalization after she was released by the ones who assaulted her and receives ongoing treatment for the PTSD and the mental illness it triggered. You can’t imagine the strength it took for her to even publicly admit that it happened to her and to have people like you attack her like this, but she did it to help others.
      Besides being a survivor myself, I was also a nurse for 13yrs. I’ve seen the damage these victims go through. I consider her experience to be worse that what I personally went through and I feel nothing but compassion for her. Why don’t you? You’re MORE concerned with potential victims than an actual one. While also being completely oblivious that by attacking a victim in this way, you’re perpetuating the problem that causes victims to remain silent. I’m sure you think I’m a “terrible person” for not trying to file charges against my mother’s ex or my ex-husband. Am I responsible for anything they’ve done? If so, what would “absolve” me of that guilt?
      She couldn’t file charges even if she wanted to, because the statute of limitations was up before she ever gained a modicum of power. If anyone cares to look, she’s given enough info for a 10sec online search to reveal who did it… and these are people who have done plenty of terrible things and gotten away with it. All it would do would cause her to get attacked when she has just gotten into a semi-healthy place mentally and emotionally and doesn’t feel like she’s able to cope with being attacked by them.
      In case you’re wondering, I would NEVER blame the victims who were abused before me for the actions or my abuser, and I’d never blame them for not coming forward “to warn other young women” like you suggested! I’ve never met a victim who would. It’s always someone like yourself, who’s never experienced this type of trauma and feels the need to victim blame.

    • @joymcclure564
      @joymcclure564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @neal cassady oh… and in case you want to keep defending it, they can’t really claim to have worked with Lady Gaga and are responsible for giving her that big break, because she was only signed with them for a few months (when this incident took place) back in 2005 and her break occurred in 2008 under a different label! Any young woman looking to follow in her footsteps wouldn’t go to them, so your what-ifs are misplaced. And yes, these young girls WOULD know that! It’s something they would look into when seeking representation and to get noticed. All of us have access to Google. No picture on a wall will trump a 10 second internet search.
      So… are you trying to convince ME your stance is just, or are you trying to convince YOURSELF that you’re not part of the problem?

      Because it helps other people who are going through trauma? It starts a conversation and helps others to speak out. Even if she does not name them she is doing a brave thing for speaking about abuse. Because she is terrified (understandably) of her abuser and doing so would retraumatise her. She shouldn’t have to say it.

They don’t have an ounce of compassion and they cannot appreciate when an artist tries to give a push to such an important and overlooked movement. They think that people like Stefani are not even human to have emotions and experiences and biological reactions...how fucked up can a person go as to doubt a survivor who is simply trying to open up about it just so that millions of other survivors could do the same? These people are using their fame and public attention to make important issues such as mental illness and appropriate treatment to these serious medical conditions brought out to the light! They want people to move and support and fight for justice, if celebrities could do anything good to the world, is help solve social/world issues/problems. It’s literally the best that they can do and people think that they just want attention. And let’s suppose that they wanted attention, GOOD FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY GOT PEOPLE TO LOOK AT THE MAIN POINT!!! The center of the problem, that’s what this world should focus on...not whether someone is being “fake” or “attention-seeking” or “hypocritical”. Look ahead of your own nose and wake tf up because the world does not revolve around your ego and and close-minded opinions!

    my question is what was at the situation about rape? is that desire for ambition and being famous and saying i let someone rape me even if i do not want but i became famous and have all of u admire me
    the rapist was obviously an admire and was it 50 shades of grey game to S&M game?
    see that is the difference and now is that a marketing or rape stop that wearing a larger version gaining weight period not skinny and sexy but being a victimThe rape is a bit too general of a statement what had really happened?
    what put Lady Gaga thru rape os desire to be famous?
    personal ambition?
    etc
    because then it becomes a question i did not feel the physical relation was pleasant. what kind of relation with the guy there was? mentor advise and he was amniuative and traded this for physical relation did he threaten someone how promised introductions and also lady gaga did burlesque dancing and so there were arrangement to continue game in private on S&M side etc
    so what was that exactly to lady Gaga represented cause am sure especially if we talk about repetitive experience and she believed she did not benefit from experience in any way that it was slimly rape she would go to report to police. her life was obviously not threatened to death she was maybe forced to do it at teh expense of wanting a job and help form that person in some other ways etc
    i mean rape if complex, i call rape as during war soldier rape women one time and kill with donkey punch so ther is degree of rape and also feeling cals ether tis no balance of power at work place tat experience may seem forced on us by someone having decisive power to affect other part of life or career or any type of lively hon especially if person already invested. i was really invested into my work and it took me a year and a half i worked so hard when basically my boss decided to start flirting with me i wa snot exactly raped but that entire situation was not ok at all so can we make sure to check on definitions using word rape cause of the ver kill over use of the word

      when celebrities say it was worth it because of of u now love me, was it then thinking ok I get t on with this gross guy and i get benefits. point it that person who is in position of power in situation isnt sensitive enough to understand that type of attention isnt pleasant. but some people do not care they are not lied they cant imagine they are not liked. We probably have marriages in this society in teh US when women say he wants me i get to do it i made excuse for too long and so is that rape or is that they they do it because they want to not create problems for marriage? we use word rape too liberal these days

      how old we talk about that a kid maybe confused and it is also pedophilia? etc. there is just no detail here about ever case is different. was there gifts etc and other type of conditioning pleasure or guilt? etc. I mean how do we learn and what is the right way to report this to public because the way it is reported now. It was worth it now u all love me so it was sounding liek he was the right person had the right connections and promoted me so it is a form of prostition. But for example could be sitation that a nazi say i want to f u to a women and they say if u let me do it i feed your children and protect them. still a rape but kind of for higher purpose . etc. but sometimes that nazi rape a female and say i also give u a job to work with me she doe snot have kids and that nazi say u be like me high hitler etc. so one way to thing to save someone life and another to lose personal integrity and even gain wealth and then even thinking i put it in my boo later when am famous that i even went through supposedly a rape with a person i kind of didn't want to do it with. so it is very complicated not back and white really

      i am more curios about man and their integrity trading favors in exchange for the type of attention actually from female who really talented as well. because sometimes this friedship and personal relation that really help some to get promoted. unless it is outright disgust towards the person also asking for favors. but we do nt talk who that is. why lady gaga as powerful and famous she is not saying the name of the person even ig he died ? because she isnt hoping to sue him for money? is that guy who invented her name and was rather trying to sue her to share wealth and she is saying i tell everyone u rand me they believe me etc.
