Good coffee is an obsession for me. After many years of chasing the perfect cup, I've long since settled on the old school pour over method. No deep clean required so you always get a relatively clean cup. Vacuum is a close second for unadulterated flavour. For camping though the coffee press seems more self contained, and I do love a nice robust pressed brew. Of course for simplicities sake there is always the Turkish method using an ibrik. Hook that little sucker on your backpack lol.
I make my cowboy coffee at home. The trick is to boil the grounds for a few minutes then after you add the cold water you slowly pour it into another cup. The grounds stay at the bottom if you’re careful enough. My camping go-to is a jet boil with instant coffee. But I will drink just about anything.
French press has been my go to for maybe 6 years now. I just end up drinking too much coffee with it because i never measure how much grinds i've added. I admit the jug of cold brew was a revelation this year for me that came in handy on my Southern Oregon Trip. I've used it a few times this year mostly at hotel settings. I use it for my second coffee of the day at 7pm when i find most small towns stop serving coffee at 3pm.. and then i'm left wondering "well now what?". I do admit i plan to experiment with cowboy coffee more, as I've read letting it boil over lets most of the grinds pour out.
