  • KAMALA HARRIS: Now things are getting dirty! Donald Trump releases nasty propaganda video
After incumbent Joe Biden withdrew from the US presidential election campaign, the Republicans have a problem. Until now, 78-year-old Donald Trump had portrayed his 81-year-old opponent from the Democrats as an old man who was frail and therefore no longer suitable for the top office. Now Trump is suddenly the old man himself. Because he will probably have to deal with Kamala Harris. Most experts assume that the 59-year-old vice president will enter the race as the new top candidate of the Democrats.
Is the hour of women coming?
After two male alpha animals were in the media spotlight for weeks, it could now be the women's turn. Many observers believe that the support of Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and still one of the most influential Democrats' puppet masters, finally cleared the way for Kamala Harris to run. She still has to face the party's vote, of course. Another name keeps cropping up in street polls: Michelle Obama, wife of former President Barack Obama.
It is clear that the Republicans must change their strategy. How Melania Trump gets involved in the election campaign could also be important. For a long time, nothing was heard from Trump's third wife. After the assassination attempt on her husband, Melania spoke out with a two-page statement. "A monster who saw my husband as an inhuman political machine" tried to silence Donald Trump. Political differences should never escalate into violence. Melania was described as Trump's "secret weapon" in a comment on the t-online portal on Tuesday. "She remains in ambush and is therefore a special feature."
    Candidate for Vice Presidency wanted
But it is not just the Republicans who have to change their strategy. The Democrats also face major challenges. Political campaigns are usually planned over months. Now there are just over 100 days left until the election date in early November. "The Democrats now have to make sure that they find a strong candidate for the office of Vice President relatively quickly so that they can tell a new story," says Hardy Ostry, Washington office manager of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which is close to the CDU. Ostry names the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, as a possible candidate.
But there are also constants in the election campaign, which is full of surprises. For example, that Christian voters are likely to play an important role. According to Ostry, this does not only apply to evangelicals. "The Catholic Church as a whole has probably never been as influential in American politics as it is today." However, Catholics are deeply divided, "all the way to the US Bishops' Conference," added the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. "Roughly speaking, you will find conservative Catholics in Trump's camp, while Biden has so far been more likely to be a supporter of left-wing representatives, the Sacred Heart Socialists."
    Kamala Harris gives first clues
The abortion issue is likely to be the acid test for many Christian voters. According to media reports, Kamala Harris wants to make this issue a central part of her campaign. "We will fight for reproductive freedom, knowing that if Trump gets the chance, he will sign an abortion ban to ban abortion in every single state," she said during a visit to the Democrats' campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.
