- Crocodiles and alligators aren't exactly what comes to mind when one thinks 'cute and cuddly'. Yet gators and crocs are important and vital creatures in our world's ecosystem. How can we protect these amazing creatures through anthropomorphism and storytelling? What role can social media and eco-tourism play? Savannah Boan from Gatorland makes the case in her fun and energetic TEDxOrlando 2018 talk. Savannah Boan is Gatorland’s Crocodilian Enrichment Coordinator and International Ambassador For Conservation. She is dedicated to teaching people about the incredible behavior, anatomy, and ecology of some of the world’s most feared creatures. Through groundbreaking content for Gatorland’s worldwide social media, she is changing the villainous perception of alligators and crocodiles to create respect for the animals and the world in which they live. I was born in Florida, before all the the attractions came to town. The only one around was Gatorland, I spent many fun days there. It is great to see how it has grown. When I visited there as a child, it was before they had the big gator mouth entrance, and the only price of admission was a donation as you left through the gift shop. Savannah, you are doing a great job championing crocodilian conservation and protection.
Not everyone doesn't feel the same way about Crocodiles and Alligators
When I see any Crocodillians, my instinct is "I WANNA HUG IT"

Very Nice Savannah! This just popped up in my utube feed! Gators definitely have a bad rap from negative media esp here in Fl. Even though most attacks are due to stupidity of humans, like swimming in ponds or lakes in alligator territory. Gators are really very easy going and generally not aggressive towards humans. I love them too. I have taken many great photos of them! From a safe distance of course as i still respect the power they have to quickly attack if they are so inclined. 🐊

My friends and I would ride our bikes from Sky Lake to Gatorland in the 1960s . It was free to get in, there were two chickens there. One would play the piano; the other would dance on a spinning plate. And you could buy a baby gator to take home.

Great Job!!! I am a reptile lover and it is funny when people ask why do I love them so much and I respond that I love all of the different personalities they have. Once i get people to look past the scales and get to know my reptiles they learn to like them because they realize they have a personality just like their dog and cat and other fluffy pets. I love what you are doing and please keep it up. Oh and Disney has a cute and funny gator in the Princess and the Frog. His name is Louis.

Follow Kevin Richardson the lion whisperer. He has hyenas at the sanctuary and often has videos introducing the various animals showing their personality
