    When carter first walks in (around 0:55) you can see the patient’s arm/shoulder slightly in frame in the corner behind carter, waiting. What an amazingly shot and directed scene, bravo to Laura innes for this. Would love to read the screenplay if anyone has it.

      Just because multiple A-listers purportedly got "the break" from this show isn't a testament to their acting-chops, nor the project's casting-department - unless.. You meant preemptive stunt-casting is a legit barometre of an audiovisual product's quality.
      Moving on.. North American TV projects going on for years, mostly because they have the same cast and the numbers that kept them going for so long.. Naturally incentivise the main-cast to renegotiate their comp and get a better-deal come contract-renewal time, this has absolutely nothing to do with “quality” of that project but sheerly its consumer-base.. And thespians renegotiating for better comp is nothing but sheer laborism in capitalist economies.

    I remember when I was in elementary school, before I got into ER myself, I had a classmate who was really keyed up because she had just seen the episode where they got stabbed, and she had heard that Kellie Martin was planning on leaving the show. She knew, before the age of social media, that Lucy was probably going to die. And she was right! She called it. I didn't get into ER myself until a couple of years after. I can't imagine what it must have been like for people seeing this as it was happening, not knowing for sure what was going to happen until it did. It was probably one hell of a white-knuckled ride.

    I have always loved the fact that they kept the background music from the party playing bc for them that’s what they were hearing too and it was probably so frustrating to hear that music knowing how inappropriate it was for what was happening to them and that nobody could hear them over the music even if they COULD manage to yell.

    I didn't remember, but Pop just showed Lucy's first episode yesterday ("Day for Knight"), and on the first day of her ER rotation, it's Jerry's birthday (though, after the day she'd had, Lucy didn't want any cake, or feel like celebrating), and they have cake & a party for him...I didn't see the knife (or its size) they used to cut that cake, or where they kept it, but they were preparing for the party in the lounge....so, either someone on the writing staff remembered that, and wanted to make a nice 'full circle' moment to Lucy's time in the ER, or it's quite a coincidence

    • @lauranolastnamegiven3385
      @lauranolastnamegiven3385 ปีที่แล้ว

      Day for Knight just aired again this morning, and at the beginning of the episode, when Lucy arrives in the ER with the man she tried to help outside, Mark ends up kind of shooing her out of the trauma room, and Carol tells her how to get to chairs or the desk, and all I could think, was, 'just keep going out the door, sweetie, please, don't stay here!'...also, she's shown several times, being emotionally overwhelmed at the deaths of patients, and the severe injury to the firefighter - she clearly doesn't have what it takes, to be an ER doctor, maybe even a doctor at all (and I'm not even talking about how she couldn't start an IV)...it's too bad that had to be her first rotation, instead of further down the line, when she had a little more mileage on her, more experience under her belt, things might've worked out better for her (not to mention, she may not have been there, the day Paul Sobreki was brought in)....lastly, anyone else notice the pretty insurance saleswoman patient, and how she's trying to sell Lucy insurance - disability, though, not life, because, 'statistically, she's much more likely to be maimed or disabled, than she is, to be killed' um....

    • @lauranolastnamegiven3385
      @lauranolastnamegiven3385 ปีที่แล้ว

      okay, I did have one more thought....the Sobriki storyline was kind of done before on ER...remember season 3, episode 11, "Night Shift" Mark has a patient, Shelly, who came in disoriented ("Dr. Greene with a head like a bean"), and she didn't want an LP, either, actively resisted, frankly, refused consent, but they did it to her, anyway, and it turns out, she was 'only' sick, not mentally ill, like Sobriki, but there but, right?
      (you might remember this episode better, as the one where Dr. Grant....um...his last episode)
