China has taken control of India's main streets with the purchase of many popular apps and payment UPIs in India. So, we need not limit our discussions to only border issues, but try to bring fairness in trade and security relations between China and India. China and India are the two fastest growing economies today.

Economically, the hilly frigid border areas are not of much significance to both China and India. Although India and China got into a bloody incident recently, India and China have not fired shots at each other since 1962. India and China have deep historical relations and exchanges in education and philosophy. Although India and China were the largest two powers for 3,000 years till 1800, they never went to war with each other in the entire history, until 1962.

    • @112deeps

Start with 1962 China India War then 1971 Pakistan India War ------Who was supporting India at this time ? CCCP was covering for India while USA was propping up Pakistan's Crimes in 1971. Not just stopping at weapons sales. USA wants to Alley with India while threatening India with sanction for Defence missile cover from Russia S-400 .... West has double standards so India will not be West's Colony .... only partnership of Equals

Actually it was not the armies of the US and the UK, it was the US Navy task force with the USNS Eisenhower battle group that was supposed to come into the Bay of Bengal and potentially threaten India. Two things happened -- 1. Russia said their submarines were already in the Bay of Bengal, this slowed the battle group down, and 2. The Indian Army defeated the Pakistanis in 13 days, which was about one third of what the CIA and most western projections thought it would take.

After that we had so much oil and gas infrastructure with Russia that we just let it be and hoped Putin wouldn’t do anything bad because he holds our whole energy system. Then Fukushima and we stopped all our nuclear reactors which had given us the last resort of energy which isn’t controlled by Putin. Now we hope green energy will save us but we have by far not enough of it and that is why Germany is anxious about crossing the red line. I doubt that very much. If china turns things around, it buys India time, but not much; a few years tops. Eventually, a China w/ an upper hand will throw its influence around. Unfortunately, the power balance favors China for the time being. They will not be able to hold this advantage indefinitely. In a decade, Chinese demographics simply won't be able to compete with India. We are entering an incredibly dangerous decade or two. China knows what is coming. It is incentivized to take advantage of its relative strength while it lasts. The downward slide in china may have already begun. That would not bode well for India/ China relations. Best case scenario is china holds on until it can't and power shifts quickly. I wouldn't be on the best case.

India doesn't have a political dilemma. Things are pretty straight on this end. Let's put this straight : *U.S along with its **_Allies_** tried to attack India and USSR defended by bringing up it's naval fleet to challenge the approaching powers. Normally this is taken as the point that strengthened Indo - Russian ties. However it is not. Indo - Russian ties is based more off Strategic and Trade importance. India has equal relations with all countries except Pakistan due to the continued cross border violations and support for terror.* At present Indo - Russia ties have become valuable due to rising energy prices from India's top most suppliers and sanctions on those from where it can be procured at a cheaper rate. It is common sense that Indo - Russia ties improve in this context similar to how the West keeps supporting China despite it's expansionist motives and actions against all of it's neighbors. The same west also supports a terror and rogue state called Pakistan at our borders and *it is the West that created Pakistan by introducing Religiopolitical Schism between members of the same nation to suit their own benefit to counter India's rise.* Hence, NO FREAKING COUNTRY HAS THE RIGHT TO QUESTION OR COUNSEL INDIA ON IT'S CHOICE BECAUSE THEY BASICALLY FORM THE CAUSE OF THE TENSIONS AND ESPECIALLY BECAUSE UKRAINE - RUSSIA CONFLICT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS AND NOT OUR PROBLEM LIKE YOUR MENTALLY DERANGED _LEADERS_ TRY TO PRESENT INDIA. LEARN TO RESPECT OTHERS. DW News has always been biased towards India representing it in the poorest way possible.

I understand that point of view. I understand that India has to do what is best for India. I understand that India was a founding leader of the non-Aligned movement during the Cold War.
But betting on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is not going to help India’s struggle against its real adversary which is China. Russia was weakening before the war and has been accelerating its decline by continuing its criminal misadventure in Ukraine militarily and economically.
I can’t blame India for buying Russian energy. Countries in Europe are still reliant on it, despite the sanctions. But India’s stance is seen as giving aid and comfort to a rogue country that has moved from adversarial to the west to a belligerent enemy. This isn’t acting as a non-aligned country and it’s not in India’s long term interest. It’s a diplomatic dead end and you can bet that Beijing will use this to their advantage in the decades to come. India is not playing the long game.

United States and United Kingdom are two countries that have had a history of creating rifts between different political factions across the world to facilitate sales of arms. When the Ottoman Empire was defeated at the end of WW1, Britain and France partitioned the entire Middle East into countries in such a way that tensions are always kept high in the region. They often took sides of different factions and ended up selling their weapons, gaining huge profits from a war which was never theirs, and at the cost of local citizens. This is not a new concept, and Indians are well aware of the British policy of divide and rule. Similarly, US also played the same role after UK was diminished to a weaker country after WW2, in what came to be known as the Cold War. In a systematic chain of events, US replaced almost all governments in both the Americas with regimes, which were often dictatorial in nature, and committed crimes of all sorts, so that their backyard was kept silent. A similar thing has been happening in Europe ever since WW2. NATO was systematically enlarged, with newer countries joining almost every other decade, which has now led to American weapons being stationed closer and closer to Russian borders. With the current war in consideration, Americans created such a situation, wherein they pushed the European Nations into giving up their old Soviet Era arsenal to Ukraine in a bid to counter Russia, and at the same time, striking deals to supply their high-end weapons and technology at exorbitant rates to European Nations, an offer which most of the countries cannot reject. As a result of which, Germany has committed to increasing its military budget to 150 billion USD from next year, placing it at 3rd position after US and China, most of which would be spent on purchasing F-35s to replace its current arsenal, and other weapons, from none other than the United States. Even in the South East Asia region, in a bid to counter China, US and UK offered Submarines to Australia, which Australia accepted after scrapping a decade old deal with France, for an imminent Chinese threat. We are also seeing similar such proposals being made to Japan, Philippines, Taiwan and even Vietnam(there are efforts being made to improve relations between Vietnam and US; for apparent sale of weapons). Creating tensions in the world to facilitate weapons sales has been an age old tactic of US and UK governments, a move that has often ended with genocides and unrest across the world, claiming millions of innocent lives, but making American and British economies one of the leading ones.

US (or at least many of us) don’t want India to distance from Russia. We want you to use your closeness to Russia to talk sense into them and help restore peace so that we can all be closer friends again.
Also when India points out hypocrisy in the West, we are listening and reflecting on the painful but constructive criticism. We know we should be better too.
Americans of this generation are so tired of a world at war. A lot of us grew up after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and have never seen any long time when our nation wasn’t at war.
We’re trying to get to peace, even if it means sacrificing some of our goals. For example, America has given up on trying to turn Afghanistan into a modern democracy by force, and we’ve realized that force doesn’t work to spread our ideologies. We can’t spread peace via violence.
The American people are strong but we don’t want to be bullies. We don’t want to police the world. We want international law organizations to step up to keep peace and set just rules for how nations should treat each other. We want to give our strength to support a system with democratically shared control and representation from all peaceful nations.
Sadly, as soon as we start trying to be more peaceful, other countries like Russia start to see our love of peace as weakness. When they think we’re weak, they start looking for chances to attack and force us back into war. We will defend/support weaker nations because it is a moral obligation, but we are not warmongering people and we’re sick of violence.

Paradoxically India is in a geo-political "sweet spot." Certainly not geo-political squeeze. It is playing and benefitting from both sides and growing economically and militarily while the US and the Collective West are weakening because they are paying the price for the Ukraine conflict together with Russia. It doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure out why the US is so tolerant towards India for breaking its sanctions blatantly? India is the cog in the wheel of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy. As to why India does not take a side with the US, my view is that India does not trust the US if history is any guide whereas Russia has always been proven to be a reliable ally. Russia's relationship with China is only secondary to India.

India is and will be a sovereign country . So stop telling us what to do , Europe and America . Its 2022 right now , the colonial period was way back in time . So grow out of the mindset that India is still one of your colonies and will do whatever you desire .
When Americans and Europeans say that India is on the wrong side of the history by staying neutral in this war , i feel offended . I mean , when India was fighting to help Bangladesh become a free nation in 1971 which side did the West support ? Did they not support a country named Pakistan whose army committed horrendous war crimes in Bangladesh and still to this date is a home to the most number of UN certified terrorists ?
