Of course it is true. Serbia and Russia have a lot of things in common, for example:
-they have war criminal which are called "heroes" by brainwashed and people goes proud of them
-they make genocide on civils and disarmed people , also raping women other countries is normal for them
-they call "terrorist" everyone who don't think like them
-the don't have a real opposition party in their county
-their government control all the media to share easy their propaganda.
-they blame NATO for every stupid decision make by their politician
-they don't change the president for all life time
-their president are the richest man in their country
-their president decide who should live and who passed away
-they always try to invade or destabelize counties near them
-the level of corruption is very very high in this countries.
-often their church mix religion with politic for political purpose
      Should I add more?

I think it’s important to understand that the world isn’t black and white. There is no ‘good’ and ‘evil’. There is only your experiences. The experiences of Serbs is that NATO bombed them whilst Russia helped them. I’m a pole, and our experiences are that Russia oppressed us whilst NATO secured us independence, or atleast protection in a way in which we can be sovereign and rule ourselves freely. Neither of these views are inherently wrong, and that’s why the world is so messy.

As a Serb I must say how impressed I am of the objectivity of this video, bearing in mind it comes from DW ;)
The pros and cons have been explained quite well. Though the main focus was mainly on emotions and logic behind it, but very little about economic reasons (our banking is 100% Western, and energy is 100% Russia dependent, the fact we have been promissed eu membership for 20 years now and nothing came of it.). Also, our close ties with the French have not been mentiomed, as vast majority of next set of military equipment (mailny fighter jets) will come from them. Also, the stance toward Russia we have due to energy dependency can also be seen in some of the EU members such as Hungary, Czech republic etc. So this is in a way a good video, but it stick to the very shallow / simplified ways of looking at things. Real life is never a Hollywood movie with clear bad and good guys.

    1. In the beginning of the report, the narrator mentioned that Serbian airlines still fly to Russia. However, the narrator failed to inform that air Serbia has been receiving bomb threats on the planes daily from the start of the war. Later, they began to receive calls of bombs set in schools and day cares all around the cities in Serbia. Serbian president says the calls come from Ukraine.
    2. RT is banned in the USA (unlike the lady mentioned, maybe her kids found a way to get around it)
    3. A lot of Russians panicked and fled Russia in the beginning of the war. However, they say 80% of them returned due to difficulty assimilating and brutal discrimination they are facing (regardless of their position on the war) just because they are Russians

Aleksa Grbovic's statement at 10:30 is the most truthful statement surrounding serbs and the controversies they face. No matter what evil that government perpetuated, NATOs response to target civilians while supposedly standing for democracy, peace, and freedom is the direct cause of so much pain and continued disdain for the west in the eyes of many serbs and it is 100% comparable to the way ukrainians feel right now. Thats the key element in this whole comparison, Ukraine is in an extremely similar situation to where Serbia was 20 years ago, the difference is who the west is supporting.

    • @st3019

NATO did not target civilisations in the bombardment of Serbia in 1999. This is a lie that many serbs are repeating again and again to victimize themselves and present themselves as just victims . Yes it’s true that civilians were killed that unfortunately was inevitable just like in every war . The bombardment of Serbia was completely justified. It was a war that was going on since 1991 . You need to look at the situation from the inside. Ukraine is facing a full scale invasion not just bombardment. It’s totally different situation.

@@st3019 you are completely incorrect, the Kosovo war and the Croatian/Bosnian civil wars in Yugoslavia were completely different conflicts. They occurred around the same time and concerned the same main participants, but the war was not "going on since 1991", the Kosovo war lasted from February 1998 to June 1999. You have no credit here to discuss what is a lie and what is truth when you can't even get the basic timeline of events right. The reality is that while they were hitting government and military infrastructure primarily (that is true) they were still greatly targeting civilian areas, hospitals, trains, infrastructure in order twist their wrist and to force the Serbian government to bend. It wasn't just civilian bystanders that happened to be killed, there were targeted attacks and specific civilian centers and locations were hit as a means to force a surrender. My point isn't whose side was right or wrong in the conflict or to make "victimize" Serbs (though the civilians were undoubtedly victims just the same way that Albanian civilians were victims of the Serbs) my point is that America is a hypocritical beast that chooses who and what to bomb when it suits them, they choose what is a crime and what isn't when it suits them, and they cannot pretend to stand up for peace and human rights when they both perpetuate war and violate human rights.

My point was to say that it’s not the same situation with what is going on today in Ukraine. Ukraine is not doing what serbian army and militia were doing in Kosovo. Some corrections and explanations:
Serbs didn't accept Russian propaganda as self value but didn't buy Western propaganda as such. Serbs know wery well what means propaganda as felt on their own skin long time ago.
Serbs were not killing Albanian citizens in 1999 but were dealing with Albanian terrorists. Trained, financed and supported by US and allies (read Nato). Thats why Serbia sufferd the bombing in order Kosovo to be taken under their control and the biggest military US base in Europe set up there.
The newspapers "Danas" are pro western and they support official anti Russian narrative that is why people comment bad their articles on social media.
Why Serbs support Russia? Because Serbs has experienced all this situation of fake news and western propaganda, the manuel they use is the same for any occasion. In the years of 90' the Serbs were satanized as bad guys and agressors by all media around the world, Serbia suffered severe sancions and economy damadges, high inflation, its history and coulture were cancelled everywhere. So all this that Russian people is now going trhrough was seen in Serbia so no way mass media under western control will make Serbs believe their stories. Also knowing wery well Russian historic deeds as always being on the right side fighting the thirrany and helping liberation of Serbia made deep bonds. For the difference of those who started more than 30 wars and killed millions of people worldwide, now are talking about the democracy and agression. As being more attached to traditional values nurtured in Russia then perverted ones of EU, for the Serbs is more natural to be pro Russia than wanting to become EU member as not seeing any good values and place there. Also not trusting those who bombed its cities killing ordinary citizens for 72 days in 1999. Serbs see well that this conflict has little to do with Ukraine but the same those who are using Ukraine for their interest and pushing them into the war. The same ones were training and financing Ukranian nazi movements as they did with terrorists in Kosovo. This is the conflict of those standing for the souvereignty and justice and those who wants to dominate the whole world. Russia is the stone they fell upon. Unfortunately war conflict was inevitable but could be over if the same peacemakers want to but they don't because they don't care for people's lives but only their own interest.

Serbia was fighting terorists and separatist albanians. NATO helped them on field, trained them in Albania and gave them weapons finally using them as ground troops(sounds familiar) . Than when Serbian police and military defeated those terorists NATO came to help by bombarding Serbia for 78 days(again sounds familiar) . Peace talks before war were western sharade where Serbs had to surrender and sign what ever USA wanted. Siria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libia, Vietnam etc, democracy by USA & NATO bombing. North Macedonia, changed its name because Greece vetoed its path to EU accession. After it changed its name, instead of Greece now Bulgaria vetoes Macedonia's accession in the EU. The question arises, how can we trust the EU? Is the EU a reliable entity to engage with and be trusted or it is just another manipulation? According to history, Kosovo was once belonging to Yugoslavia, NATO intended to separate Yugoslavia into several units, the so-called 'NATO bombing campaign‘ was actually not approved by ‘’UN security counsel', it was NATO's invasion of Yugoslavia to bomb Serbian civilian infrastructure and people inside it(NATO used penetrating bomb). In the situation, 'Kosovo Albania' to Yugoslavia was like 'Donbas ethnic Russian' to Ukraine today, NATO's invasion of Yugoslavia under name of ’NATO bombing campaign‘ was like Russia's invasion of Ukraine under name of 'Russia special military operation' today, and Milosevic of Yugoslavia was in the same position as Poroshenko of Ukraine today.
The awareness of history makes people wise, we can know that Russia is exactly learning what NATO did in history, if NATO blames what Russia does now, it is like something that 'NATO blames what NATO did'.

Obvious that he was high on some bad rakia, or the fact that his football team sucks 😝. Jokes aside, it is a sad fact that a part of older generations here in Serbia view the communist (ex sfrj) and then the socialist (ex srj state) with rose-tinted glasses. Especially in the SRJ the relations with Russia where thriwing. I remember that it was all over the new that then Russian president Boris Jelcin would send the army to assist Serbia during the NATO bombing. Even after, the current president Vucic , whos votes depend on the pensioners and people aged above 60, has supported the narative that Russia a "brotherly nation", with Putin attending several army festivals. So to be clear the pro-russian narative has been going on for a very long time, not to the extent that a cadual serbian watches Russia Today ok daily basis, but still it is there. Up side is that the younger people have acess to more information and are able to make up their minds without the propaganda affecting them.

Brou... we in Serbia (goverment and lot of people) chose to be neutral after 2004. Here , we have very good position on viewing media and propaganda and i think we can easy recognize it. We are in this state, that we have full west media coverage , but we have also full east media coverage too. So we can choose to listen to west or east or hear both side and conclude what we think is right. Some people in my country , we call them "rusofili" - they love and support russia (some % of that people organize protests and support) , and some others , who support the west. In my case , I love and support our neutral position and hope we stay that way, but a big pressure has been put on us to change our politics. Good job to our government, which is under big big pressure, although I do not agree with some of its decisions, I am here to support all the choices that we make independently and for our benefit, and not for others(under pressure). Serbia wants to be an open econmy with everyone. Im from germany and the german goverment and other countries are currently biting their arse off because of no gas, wheat, oil etc. because they are very dependant on russia. Serbia wont have it because its doing the best thing right now. Staying neutral and accepting ukrainian refugees.

@@MrGanjaBandits I can't agree with you. Serbia only has a lot to lose if it wants to be belligerent with its neighbours.
A Serbia that is democratic and peaceful with it's neighbours has nothing to fear and has a lot to gain.

@@pugjudy7868 Economically and culturally speaking, Serbia is much more tied to EU than Russia. Yes, even culturally. The west kinda made the problem for themselves in Serbia. We were portrayed as the bad guys that deserved everything bad that happened to them and a lot of bad things happened to the Serbs in those wars too. After all those years of feeling mistreated, allowing other countries to form on our territory (first with Montenegro's independence and especially Kosovo), while at the same time not letting the Serbs in Bosnia have the same rights for self-determination and now this craziness in Ukraine, where the west firmly supports the UN resolutions and international laws that they crushed so easily in the case with Serbia, the natural response seeing Russia as our ally appeared. Simply because it's anti-nato. Serbs are not nearly as russophilic as they are actually anti-nato. It's a fact. We belong in the EU and we want to be there, but as equals and not as some fools the west thinks we are.

no you did not, since is not based only on the NATO bombardment... it is also based in the national struggle of the Serbs to free them self from the Ottoman Empire (First and Second Serbian uprising), on Orthodox Christianity, on being Slavs, of the Red Army taking part in liberation of Belgrade in WWII, as on being part of SFRY and socialist memory... it is more complicated than DW puts it...

What if you top it up with very concrete threats of imprisonment and of being totally ostracised for voicing anti-war opinions?
This combined with the western narrative that a lack of vocal opposition to the war equals complicity and partial responsibility on behalf of Russian nationals. This being followed with devastating sanctions on all individuals and organisations.
What other conditions would you propose for such individuals to qualify?
