You can think of it more like lasagna when you put a layer of sauce before the first layer of pasta to make sure nothing burns, but instead you're putting a layer of cream cheese mix at the bottom to make it easier to scoop. That being said, it might not work as well if you're using a pan and trying to cut out pieces because this is a desert intended to eat with a spoon and it isn't very structurally sound. And you could make it without the graham cracker crust, but keep in mind it'll just be a mix of the cheese and strawberries- kind of like fruit cocktail salad.
