At 5:17, note once the K line extension is complete the C line will only go as far as the airport station and trains will be signed as such. Riders continuing to Redondo beach (and further down the line as new stations are constantly being built) will transfer to the K line. Also note when that station is open you’ll get on a people mover instead of a bus for the last leg!
Over the last three decades, Los Angeles has invested heavily in improving its public transport infrastructure. Bravo! As a foreigner from the Netherlands, can I now get around Los Angeles without renting a car?
Depending on where you want to go and if you are ok with roughly doubling your travel time xD The light rail lines are more frequent, but fairly slow. The heavy rail trains like the one at the beginning of this video barely run (>90 minute headways outside weekday commute hours) and are sometimes outright suspended on the weekend for track maintenance with no replacement bus service.
@@marcelmoulin3335 Hey! The high-speed rail line from LA to Las Vegas is expected to open in 2028, starting from Rancho Cucamonga, so you might want to give it a try if you're planning to visit LA. I did the full A Line ride on Sunday and I was only on Kinkisharyo P3010’s the entire day!! There’s been only P3010s on the C Line a lot lately. I’m also flying to Minneapolis Minnesota by myself in a couple weeks!! I love this video:))!!
While this is cheaper, I would argue it is still much better to pay the $10 for the LAX FlyAway. The longest ride I've had on it was about 60 minutes, and when you catch it at the right time with minimal traffic, it's about 30 minutes with no transfers either. Time is money as well!
My personal preference would be this too! It runs as early/late as metro aswell, which is a good benefit since metro almost runs 24/7 besides 12:40-4:00am
So i've been staying near LAX and going to Dodger baseball games this year. The airport flyaway bus to Union Station is perfect since there is a free dodger shuttle from Union to the park and back. My only worry has been that the last flyaway shuttle leaves Union at 11:40, which is not usually a problem but could be if a game goes into extra innings. I knew catching the metro would be an option in that case, but didnt know how so this video helps a lot! Thanks.
Love this video! Sad to see the outdated wayfinding at Union Station but that’s what happens when the decision makers don’t actually ride their system. In addition to the reverse trip, maybe a video using the J-line bus to C-line is an idea? I find it to be faster overall.
Thanks so much! I guess LA Union is a bit too historic lol, about the J & C line im going to film a video on that in the future, itll be released to channel members in about a week and the general public in about a month or so
When you walked up the stairs and i saw the option to go to Norwalk I thought that was pretty as i Live in Norwalk, Then i remembered that i am on the other side of the Country! Thanks for the tour!
Thanks for the video. Trip time is a bit long, but hopefully the K line extension will help with that. I don't really understand why you have to pass through a set of fare gates when transfering from the A to C line though; kind of a weird design on Metro's part.
Of course! Although trip time is long now, I hope that with the K & C line realignment along with the peoplemover opening, the travel time can be cut down, but the transferring will still be a headache
The problem with this ride is that the line goes thru the worst neighborhoods in L.A. I've ridden it once from Union Station to Long Beach and back, but never again.
It could be due to the stops in Compton, Del Amo, Artesia, that area etc, the northern part of the A line is a stark difference (also most of the sketchier neighborhoods are south of the transfer point in this video )
There was a shuttle bus from LAX to Downtown LA and another shuttle to Hollywood (I believe), the one to Downtown takes about 35 minutes or so and used to cost around $9 (I did that in 2022 when I used to live in LA), it's a very fast and convenient option if you live in downtown or in the area close to Downtown. Once the pink line reach lax the metro trip will be more straightforward.
I think you might be referring to the flyaway bus, it costs $9.50 I think and stops at Union station, if that’s what you mean I will be riding that soon and I’ll make some videos on it! Thanks for watching & commenting
Soon there will be a people mover going to LAX but you will still need to transfer 2 times to get to Downtown LA which will be inconvenient. They really should have done the K Line as a through-running service to Downtown LA.
Does it take less time to take A->C or A->E->K from Union Station to LAX? Of course at the end of the K Line there is a shuttle that brings you to Aviation Station, so that does add some time. I'm on the west side so I take E->K to LAX. People who get a $50 Uber and wait for 25 minutes in the horseshoe are kinda dumb. It's still usually quicker to Uber than take transit, but I'll just leave for the airport 30 minutes earlier and keep $50 in my wallet.
Because of there not being a direct shuttle to LAX from the K line the A(or J)->C Line would be faster. From the west side the e to k is probably better, but also take a look at Culver City Bus R6 which runs down Sepulveda that might also be faster depending where you start
I'd take the metro but my few experiences riding the a/gold line left me feeling very on edge on the trains. Lots of druggies and homeless who are very violent
My preferred is J line to C line to shuttle (: That A line can be a pain and too slow getting from downtown to C transfer. Flyaway is to costly for my taste haha.
That one does look faster on google maps here especially during rush hour (it runs every 5 minutes during that time) using that route is on my agenda for me to film next time im in LA! Itll be released to members only in about a week most likely.
There are no trains to the getty the only way is that Metro rapid route 761, im not sure if ill be able to get over there on the E line but ill keep it in my notes for a possible visit next time i visit LA!
Bro did all of this and walked right past the LAX shuttle which costs about $9. I mean there will be a direct LAX connection in a few months. This is not the best way to get to LAX tbh (Its not bad if you have no luggage and are not in a hurry)
Yes this video is more for those looking to travel on a budget and explore LA Metro while at it, this also serves as a guide for those boarding in other locations such as the convention center (pico) or other downtown LA stations not directly served by the LAX Flyaway. I do have a video on the flyaway coming soon so stay tuned for that!
Yikes. 2 trains and a shuttle to get from downtown to LA? I will never complain about Seattle’s LINK from downtown to SeaTac again lol. Is the K extension gonna avoid the need for a shuttle down there in LA?
@@vicmorales5684Thanks! Once the people mover is operational I think I’ll try the trip in this video. I live in west Ventura County and I can take either Amtrak or Metrolink to Union Station.
It could be because its one of the lower ridership lines, or because that's just how its always been. Not too sure on this one, but it seems like they try to keep each metro line to one or two at max types of trains to make it simpler for each line's operation
@@TigerRailfan The portion of the former Green Line west of Aviation (on viaduct not in the middle of I-105) has stations which can only handle 2-car trains.
Certainly a cheap way, but not really the safest way. I mean the safety situation isn't perfect, and Metro crimes on the news are still often reported. And the only other option is the $10 LAX Flyaway. But if you can still enjoy the rides, be proud!
Metro’s crime has gotten better but it still is a concern, I personally enjoy the Flyaway bus more but this may be an ideal option for those not starting at Union station or in downtown LA at all, great budget way too
You can’t at LAX, but the shuttles are free. There are tap card machines at both the LAX City Bus Center and the Aviation/LAX C line station, so you can purchase there. I hope you have a safe trip!
I mean, that's good value. But taking the C line through those neighborhoods, yikes! I'll stick to the direct bus from the terminals to Union Station, it's only $8 more, and only takes about an hour compared to 90mins
It is excellent value for LA especially considering ubers can run $50-80 depending the time of day, the flyaway bus is probably a good medium and its my personal favorite, ill have a video on that coming soon! Itll be published for members only 1xt
I'll have a video out using the J line on the way back from LAX to Los Angeles, it probably is faster but hopefully the A line can get some much needed improvements to make it competetive with freeway driving (and express buses too!)
Why take the metro? Their are trains that go all over LA. If you have luggage, would you like to have a one seat ride to the Airport no transfer needed? At least their is a one seat express bus that goes to the Airport from downtown.
Personally I would use the flyaway bus or we would park at LAX economy parking, but not everyone wants to pay hundreds for parking or $10 for the flyaway each way :)
Wow, its so confusing to have A, B, C...X buses at the same time with A, B, C... metro lines. Hope they will fix it until Olympics 2028, because that not how it should work

I am surprised by how flat and horizontal spread Los Angeles’ city layout is, in contrast with Philadelphia’s tight grid and vertical architecture.
