- After a Metro board member said she was too afraid to ride the system alone, new Board chair Janice Hahn climbed aboard to see the state of the public transportation that her father, Kenny Hahn, helped build. Ross Palombo reports.
Stop allowing the homeless to ride metro all day as alternative housing……seriously
They've been cracking down on that in the last two months.
Stop calling the drug addled mentally insane, "homeless", cause they're not.
She wants to prevent weapons on bus which seems impossible. How about we start with fare enforcement first?
I haven taken metro for 15 years. Nothing happened to me at all.
wtf is with the 500 different camera angles???
This story is staged inside the bus. Normally, you get a politician with cameras. You everyone inside looking and giving their 2¢. Everyone on this bus doesn't even turn to look.
keeps it interesting.
You media outlets need to realize that people have MORE THAN ENOUGH to be afraid of. Homeboy literally said at 1:57 "on buses, violent crime is 5 times LESS likely" then it fasts cuts to the woman interviewed saying "and that's SO disturbing" - what??? Bro you just reported evidence that there is NOT a crimewave on the metro right now. And sure the redline is higher, but by how much? The numbers in this are low, and you rushed through the little bit of information that was reported.
This kind of reporting shouldn't be entertainment - this is about people's lives and sanity. Most times, the sense of 'threat' on metro is from people in a mental crisis. Usually they are "in their own world" but the unpredictable intensity of mental breaks causes fear and suspicion from others. Then the whole metro just feels scary and uneasy. News reports like this don't help that sense of suspicion. You give BIG emphasis to a handful of sensational incidents - then drop crumbs of statistics in a way that overblows the situation. Enough already!
Sanitation issues.. CDC needs to swipe seats for diseases
Not true. The trains and stations are noticeably cleaner since they hired additional cleaning crews. You see them regularly now.
The only reason crime is going down is it's not being reported by the Police. LAPD avoids taking reports
Juking the stats
Allergic to Stats.
That, and they've literally changed the definitions of some of the crimes. What used to be a felony is now called a misdemeanor.
The only reason why crime on metro is going up is because police are reporting it. Metro’s been forcing LAPD/LASD/LBPD/Transit Police and security to take reports.
There aren't enough cops in the entire county to ride every bus, secure every bus stop, ride all trains and subways, man every subway station and train platforms, etc. What the reporter is suggesting is impossible. There would be no one available to patrol the streets and respond to emergency calls. Although, an increase in police presence is necessary, it is not the solution if the DA and the judges continue to release criminals back onto the street to reoffend. The reporter should interview them as well.
That's why the focus needs to be on hardening the fare gates. 90% of crimes on the LA Metro are committed by fare evaders.
I can't stop thinking about these folks just trying to ride the bus to get to work and have to be stuck in the middle of this interview happening around them. They are just living their life and this news reporter and some nepo executive sit around and gawk and make comments about everything. Everybody is trying to ignore them. dude is just trying to eat some cheetos over there; he didn't sign up for this awkwardness.
Is the news reporter a typical sugar in a tank guy? Oh it's Los Angeles I forgot!
Safer than driving
So the county supervisor happens to get on the cleanest train and both the LAPD and Metro Security happen to be nearby. Coincidence? I don't think so.🤔🤔🤔
Metro needs its very own police force.
LA Metro recently approved the creation of their own security force. It will be fully in place by 2025.
LA Metro on TH-cam just deletes all negative comments 😂😂😂
I have noticed the OC Sheriff rode the 50 route a few times to the Village of Orange in North Orange (origin: Cal State Long Beach)
put damn turnstiles on the metro busses so they can open when you tap, big blue bus don't allow people without paying their fare, make it affordable like $1 dlls
LA Metro is one of the most affordable Metro systems of any large city in the US.
They need to start by installing fare gates at all LRT stations. Many of the older stations still don't have them.
I guess is it safe because the bus never picks me up, it's just drives by my stop in compton and doesn't pick up nobody
Call Metro and report that driver.
I got a kitchen knife pulled on me on the orange line had to defend myself with my bike lock ,that driver shield was used for protection.
How about do a better job of keeping the non-paying homeless off the trains & buses.
This is a major issue for LA that requires immediate and aggressive action. Will LA leaders have the courage to do so tho
How about deploy some undercover in house metro police in our train system? And buses?
How stupid can this metro board be
There is no in-house Metro police right now, but it's coming.
how the heck would you install and use metal detectors at bus stops? maybe on buses?
What about defunding the police? That might help ….
LA Metro drivers, OCTA is hiring (just avoid the 50 and 60 routes to Long Beach)
Good reporting
The Hahn family got a long history with Los Angeles Metro.
Janice Hanh is out of touch and clueless based on this video. A lot of the questions asked in this video are just ridiculous, "when I was riding by myself I didn't see a single deputy, is that something you need to change?" The police shouldn't be on every bus/train, there's not enough police for that. Do the little things: fare enforcement, kick people off if they are sleeping for hours, making a mess. Call the police when they are needed and actually do something about the problems. Adding police to every vehicle is just a band-aid and isn't feasible.
She acted like she’d never been on a bus or in the subway before!!! WTF?
The security guards are doing much more of that on LA now. Police are taking people off the trains at the end of the lines. I've seen them escort problematic people out of subway stations, too.
It gets a F Rating! The End!!!
She just seems so fake at all. It's like her showtime and first time riding bus and trains in LA?
Story sponsored by metro? I would rather earn less than commute to LA.
its METRO MADNESS
If you're a criminal then the system has never been safer for you. Lots of victims to chose from and ZERO accountability, ZERO police, ZERO consequences for anything you do to any of them. If you're not a criminal, then you're basically asking to be offed.
The developed world would like to know.
didnt like my ride a few weeks ago. pretty scary in the day even.
Allied universal security doing all the clean up.
ride line 4 latenight I dare you. LA to Santa Monica
Its only safe if all riders are wearing body armor and carrying 2 guns, pepper spray, taser, knife, and first aid kit.
Bart and metro are not safe mismanagement
I saw two guys and a crip go at it like last week because a dog bit one of the three men
But Karen Bass said metro was safe....Yet another DEI failure. Speaking of DEI hire Sheriff Luna is another one. Further, if Hahn wants to really "see" the truth then she needs to ride it by herself, alone, with no security or camera crew. I mean seriously. Isn't it funny that the person that was the head of security for metro that was "fired" for speaking out several months ago proposed that people who don't pay should not be able to ride? Humm....
lmao what kinda bait is this
stop the DEI stuff. you're just regurgitating what you hear. We live in Los Angeles, its plenty diverse already so yes others other than white will be hired. White people are a minority in Los Angeles. smh
bruh how are you gunna say you want an officer on every single train and bus when the lapd also has a whole city full of gangsters to take care of, Karen bass and Luna are DEI hires and should be fired
LA Metro will have their own force by 2025. They will no longer use LAPD, LASD, and LBPD.
