Good morning Joe , I was disappointed not to see you at the firewood frenzy. Dan told me it was because they don’t sell Dr. Pepper in Wisconsin. Eau Claire must be a dry county. I was looking for Joe from Joe’s premium firewood there as well but Dan said Joe’s mom wouldn’t let him have her car because he missed curfew a few nights earlier.
Anyways that quite the machine you have there. It may take a little getting used to but you’ll be a pro before you know it. I love the fact that it will greatly reduce the re-splitting.
    Cheers

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A fascinating video and very informative. I have no doubt you are working on some form of roofing to protect your new toy from your unforgiving Ohio weather and also to enable you produce firewood in the rain as you have some serious investment dollars to recover. Hopefully you will follow my long held advice to acquire a backpack blower to keep the 405 as clean and tidy as your split logs.

Congrats to the new machine and perfect firewood! I watched the Finnish Japa YT channel and there were two ladies in the middle of winter in snow coveralls splitting birch firewood, a big pile of it! You should ask them to come over and help. That's hugely impressive, and you're making a very presentable and consistent product in a single operation.
I'll concur with Big Rodders when he advises getting all that expensive equipment under cover of some sort. It'd add considerably to the longevity and residual value of the equipment, and make operating it in less than ideal weather much more agreeable.
That number '4' on the infeed scale is in Decimetres. 4 Decimetres = 40 Centimetres = 400 Millimetres = 15.748 Inches. Near enough to 16 Inches for Government Work! :-)

I highly recommend saving the scraps as you call them into a wheelbarrow and dumping them next to the wood stove in you garage/barn for heating in winter. It’s wood, might as well use all parts of the logs.
A shovel big enough to fit in the fire door should be adjacent to the stove so you get everything burnable into the firebox sawdust included.
    Food for thought

It sure is nice to see someone get a processor, and then not to have to wait a month to see actual videos of it! Good job Joe!
I would not have known you were nervous, unless you told us this!
I dont expect a "Perfect Operator" option on the 405. It was great to see perfect firewood coming out immediately with no serious hassle and delays.
I also liked the fact that the outfeed did not get "all cludged up" with firewood refusing to get pushed out to the conveyor!
That "little diesel" reminds me of a "small Duramax" on the Chevy Silverado pick ups. It just hums along with no complaints!
Your "rollout" was not a failure, it was a grand slam. This 405 is a serious threat to all other brands not having the patented "perfect split".

Can the machine be ran without the shaker table? I can see this being nice option is a guy does not have the disc cleaner but in your case. It just makes for 2 messes to worry about. Also...any equipment I have ever ran with a shaker table also caused fatigue to metal, brackets and bolts loosening over time besides being noisy...The whole machine could rust away to nothing in 200 years and that Kubota engine will still be sitting there running! Wayne, I like your conclusions! A "disk cleaner/roller" makes the shaker grate redundant.
I am guessing the "box blade" creates lots of debris, hence the shaker grate is a necessity. Otherwise, the debris would build up, and clog up the out-feed to the conveyor?
Its possible the shaker grate noise and vibration could create user fatigue? I am not too excited about it. I think Joe should make this decision in a few months of use.

Hi Joe, as always I think you have made the right choices….the right processor for your immediate needs! Admire your thought process and practical approach. Going forward I feel you will go from strength to strength with few problems! Confusion with the controls will soon disappear once you get back in to your ‘comfort zone.’ Got to get out there now and find more ‘value added’ customers to absorb your increased production, with this new machine. Well done Joe, keep it up Len (Devon 🇬🇧)

Awesome Joe!! You just have to get use to it. I already know that your production just went up conservatly 3 fold. You won't be spending near the time processing and can grow your customer base as long as you can get the logs.

Mesmerizing. It looks like Japa has a well designed unit. You may want to build a platform over to your left so that you are not stepping into a "hole" when you guide the logs onto the conveyor. Happy cutting!

The deeper V of the wedge looks very good. The other features of the wedge look very good, as Joe pointed out. The pusher does not hesitate when the wood makes contact.
Can the operator take the box wedge out and use a different type of knife? I am thinking it is not made to be taken out.
Can the operator adjust the height of the box wedge? Joe didn't say, so I doubt it.
What is the worst thing that happens when you leave a 405 outside? Anything' very serious?
Because Joe stacks his wood by hand, I doubt he needs the disc cleaner. If he sold the disc cleaner he could get some of his money back.
When will you be selling the better type of splitter that punches continuously from the side? Side puncher may be a good name for it. Andrew Easton said he will start building them sometime.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The horizontal cutting edge of the wedge is in a V shape also. I am sure that helps to get the wood started to go through.
Thanks for making these things available to us.

That is a very impressive machine. Very well thought out except for a few of the buttons that you mentioned but I'm sure once you get used to them it will be a no brainer. To me it's definitely the way to go if you're buying truck loads of firewood poles and your goal is to make smaller split premium firewood like you do Joe. Dave

Forests is the most important natural resource in Finland. The land is covered with forests and the industralisation has been developed basing on forest industry. It's not a suprise there are many of this kinds of innovation. Also harvesters like Ponsse and John Deere are finnish made.

Hey Joe! Great video showing the new features and the demonstration of the operation of the 405 processor. Very impressed with the increased power and speed of the cut off saw and the spitting ram. The most impressive part of this new processor is the design and function of the splitting knives. The design of the knives produce a beautiful and uniform finished firewood product. The firewood coming out of the knives is perfectly dimensioned for the needs of your wood customers! Very big improvement in your processing capability! Thanks for the excellent demonstration!

Since we don't split n sell the cleaning systems aren't that necessary for me but they certainly put me in a position in the future if things change. If this thing had an air conditioner I would be the happiest wood cutter in the world!! Thanks Kev!

@@ohiowoodburner Hire Scheib to: Build a small screen porch enclosure with some air flow.
Have a cut out for the flip up splitter opening, acquire a small quiet gas powered generator, and a small 8k portable air conditioner with a tube that blows cold air on you.
It will freeze you up very quick if not careful. It would solve mosquito problems at the same time, since they hate cold temperatures.
If you are planning on a shelter with a roof anyway, it wouldnt be too much of a stretch to add the above?
Perhaps a small electric refrigerator for Miller Lite beer and Dr Pepper would also be a good idea?😁
