    Just keep the takedown tool on your keychain. If you do ever lose or break it, a Schrader valve stem tool (a couple of bucks at any auto parts store) works just as well. I like the grip size, low recoil, and easy slide because of the arthritis in my 70+ year old hands. The laser is also a great addition for me because of some vision issues with my dominant eye. Prior to discovering the PK380, my carry was a Ruger SR22 loaded with CCI Stingers and equipped with a laser. I was delighted that the Walther feels and shoots almost the same as my Ruger. Now I can carry the PK380, shooting it enough to be confident, but continue to do most of my practice with the much more affordable SR22. Saving pennies is important for us old retired guys!

    Bought mine about two years ago that was priced as a steal for me, and I really enjoy it so far. I use it as my EDC most days with a IWB smaller soft tug leather holster.
    First off, great detailed review, best one I've seen for this model. I agreed 100% w everything you said, and glad you enjoyed firing it like I do. I don't like that it lacks a slide lock, and the "safety" on it. Also I've had a couple of stove pipe misfires the first time firing it, but none afterwards through 500+ rounds on the range, but a couple of double loading errors too. But overall I believe it's very reliable for self protection.
    I personally prefer 45's better, but the PK380 is a great smaller caliber gun alternative, lighter in weight and size ideal for ED CC. I use Federal Premium Hydra-shock JHP cartridges since they pass the FBI standard of 12+ inch penetration.

    I ran another 50 rounds thru my PK380 about 2 weeks ago, and I still like it, total rounds so far probably 500+ with 2 cleanings ..... only jammed once the first time out shooting ...since then, No Fails ...

    pistol has a firing pin block... look inside the slide. it's not going to fire unless the trigger is pulled to the rear. the safety is a safety, as the pistol won't fire while it is on safe, it just doesn't block the trigger or sear. It is mostly meant to make decocking the weapon by hand safer than on a pistol like the cz75b or beretta 84B

    • @wildrangeringreen
      @wildrangeringreen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes... but there is also a block inside the slide, just like on a glock or a beretta or almost every other pistol designed in the last 30 years it can not fire unless the trigger is held to the rear. Since I would presume you no longer have the pistol, look at 10:15 in the video that odd button looking thing off-center in the slide, it corresponds with that raised portion on the trigger bar it that lifts that block out of the way of the firing pin.

    I have watched many reviews about this weapon and this is the best one so far. At least you know the weapon before you are doing the review. Its amazing how many dont know wtf they are talking about ,,yet do a review.
    I will add a few things since I have owned this for awhile and have got very familiar with it. You can use a valve stem remover,,for tires,as a tool if needed. And this weapon has a safety rest even in the fire position so the hammer is NOT resting on the firing pin. Very slight movement to the rear and the hammer will click into place,off the firing pin.
    I agree about knowing which way safety works!! You really need to be 100% sure of which way safety is ON in order to use this properly. Here is a easy way to remember even if you store the weapon without use for a long time. There are 2 ways to remember for sure :It is easier to just remember which way it is ready to FIRE!!!
    First: if you see "F" (fire) it is hot!!
    And the best way for me!!
    2nd: WITH THE SAFETY LEVER IN THE "FIRE" POSITION IT IS PARALLEL WITH THE BULLET PATH,POINTED SAME AS AIMING POINT! Ever since I thought of it like this,,I cannot forget. You need to beat this into your head if you own this weapon,IMO!
    I feel the hammer is small and hard to hold,,I do not feel comfortable de-cocking without safety ON.

    Your editing of videos is the smartest I've ever noticed on TH-cam. Thank you! Your analysis tells me everything I need to know about making the purchase, without ever having this Walther in my hand. I'm very grateful for your excellent analysis and demo. And your good natured apologies, show your good nature, no kidding. Good job. Good example of way to do it. Thanks. Bill H.

    A good safer way to carry with one in the chamber is to have it in double action mode. The hammer can then be pulled back a tad so it's off the firing pin. The double action trigger will be shorter pull/travel in this position but no where near single action mode. The double action longer and harder trigger pull (about 9 lbs or so) will be safer to carry. Since the hammer is only about a quarter of the way back, along with the long/harder double action pull, I have the safety off in this scenario and ready to fire. You mileage may vary.

    I love my PK380. When I took my concealed carry class the instructor asked everyone which gun they would be using to qualify. When I said the PK, his response was “you might want to rent a gun” from the range we were at. He said you won’t be very accurate with it. I told him i had fired it so many times that I had gotten very good with it. As it turned out, out of 13 people in the class, I was the high score. Used it for a few years as my EDC

    I have a couple of Walthers. As you say, the take down is a little bit of a pain, but certainly not hard. With a little practice, the recoil spring becomes second nature. The positives are overall quality which is second to none and trigger pull. In my opinion, Walther has the best out of the box triggers. Great video.

    Nice job on the review. Looks like you covered everything. I was considering the 9mm Shield for my wife, but the more info I see on this PK380, it seems this would suit her better. I agree the takedown key thing is weird and I'm not sure what it proves or the point of incorporating it into the design. Then again, I'm not using it as tactical, so I don't think it is a huge hindrance. But if I get this firearm for her I will probably buy a spare key just in case.

    I love this gun! I have one on the way to me now. The things that you do not care for are exactly what I like so we are opposites in that sense. What I like the best is that the gun has a hammer and is not striker fired. That way I can have a round in the chamber and only have to push the safety off, cock the hammer with my thumb and I am ready to defend myself without having to jack a round in and all this can be done without looking at the gun. I believe that this is the only 380 out there that has a hammer.

  • @CaptainRon956
    @CaptainRon956 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That pistol has a firing pin block. It’s impossible for it to fire accidentally if dropped. You have to deliberately pull the trigger and as the trigger bar goes back it depresses the firing pin block allowing the firing pin to go forward as the hammer drops

    I carry mine with one in the chamber, I have the safety lever on fire and I have it in half cock. That way, I can pull it out of the holster and pull the trigger, which the first shot will be in double action and then the shots after that will be in single action. If you drop it, you have it in half cock so your all good. I does however have a fire pin drop safety that protects from any type of accidental discharge from dropping or slamming the weapon against anything. Thanks for the video.

    Do you ever notice that every time they talk about polymer guns. They’re really meaning plastic. No one ever says the guns made out of plastic, Because the word plastic makes it sound cheap. So they call it polymer. Makes it sound more sophisticated and expensive.

  • @michaelmayer8451
    @michaelmayer8451 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    if put the hammer slightly back there should be point where the hammer locks in befor it is fully pulled. I think in you would call it safety rest. The striker it self should also have a safety wich should prevent movement if u drop the gun on the ground.
    At least at my PK300 P.A.K (a version only for blanks) has this safety rest but it may differ from live round version.
    But just check if its there.
    its a very good in function in my opinion. so could chamber a round and bring the hammer in the safety rest and put safety lever on fire, so you should be realy fast form picking up the gun on your target and send the lead message to the bad guy. Of course in a selfdefense case.
    Greetings from Germany
    btw. the P.A.K version here in Germany is one of the best blank guns u can have.

      @@christone1989 I'm guessing your from the states (like me) In Germany it is pretty hard to get a firearm. Kinda like getting one in New Jersey a Blank firing gun can give you the understanding/ training for the real think. It won't help your aim but function and handling it will help and a fraction of price for real rounds. And blanks will kill at ultra close range, actor Jon-Erik Hexum accidentally killed himself during a scene with a Blank round. And during another movie Brandon Lee was killed by a blank( there was a bullet stuck in the barrel) but blanks will kill.

    • @haddoxboi
      @haddoxboi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And no the real ones don't have a half cocked position (I own a Walter PK380). That's more of a revolver thing than and semi-auto thing since semi(s) are mag fed and some revolvers you can only load one bullet at a time so you will need to spin the cylinder, but you cant do that with the hammer in the way so that why they have half( safe) cocked position. There are always exceptions but in most cases that's a revolver thing. Also its a firing pin not a striker since the pin is hit with a hammer a striker is a different type of pin that uses tension and hits the bullet by itself without a hammer but a striker spring instead gives the striker the force it needs to set the round off.

      My wife's P22 didn't last 200 rounds before the weak spring couldn't chamber the next round. The feed ramp and/or barrel entry got scratched or deformed somehow so the brass casings would pinch and get stuck, and therefore not extract. I had to dremel w/diamond dust polish/bore out the barrel to make it work again! I also had to upgrade the recoil spring to steel and captured.

    Bs break down tool, bad grip, terrible mag release, trigger feels like its for a ceap bb gun, I'd put in one of the lease desirable 380's made.

    A review that lacks targets being shown isn't a review.

      It's an open box review not a range review . Are you aware of the difficult types of firearm reviews out there . To see the firearm in action simply click in a video that reads "Range Review" and you will not have wasted your time if that is all you wanted to see . I can see three right now .

    Read the manual before you post a video doing a bad job of passing along instructions or orientation on how to use the firearm! To decock the loaded PK380 and most other double-action pistols, put the firearm on safe and slowly ride the hammer forward with your thumb while gently pressing and releasing the trigger, all while pointing the gun in a safe direction. As you demonstrated (7:42 & 15:18), you should NOT just put the firearm on safe and yank the trigger....you may pay the price for a mistake in being careless or a malfunction of the safety. Even if you fail to remember to place the gun on safe, gently pulling the trigger while riding the hammer forward slowly will prevent the firing pin from being hit hard enough to discharge a round. The fact you demonstrate poor technique makes me wish I could pull your video off the internet.

      Jeeze,,are you kidding? Go look at some other reviews,lol ,they are horrible compared to this. I thought he did a great job.

      Mee too he was simply demonstrating the difference between having a hammer block safety and a decocker like other firearms and though it may be bad practice in general to decock your in that manner only in the case that you forgot to place the firearm on safe . If this is your carry weapon and your used to safety style pistols you can absolutely decock this firearm like that every time and have no worries , that steel hammer block safety will not fail . Just to be clear either way whenever decocking any firearm at anytime no matter the type of safety it Should always be pointed in a safe direction . Loaded or unloaded regardless that is your back up safety and the most important one .
