Thank you for the videos. So many people are wrapped up on Glock clones they forget the one gun that has no equal for price/performance, the PDP lineup. I own a full size 5" PDP, only time it fails is when the remanufactured garbage ammo I have fails to be hot enough to rack the slide. ( Some rounds even tumbled after 30' proving the ammo I had was weak/bad. ) I have Glock fan boy friends comment on how awesome the trigger is, even got a kimber lover to change his mind. " Wow" "how much did that gun cost" "no way".

Great review!!! I have been carrying the PDP F 3.5 for months now. It replaced my CZ P07 as my daily carry. I am 67 year old grandpa with small hands, carpaltunnel issues and bad eyes. The F-series is a real game changer for me. Due to a severe broken arm (resulting in plates, pins, screws, that sort of thing) and a dislocated wrist that went undiagnosed for six weeks that took a second surgery to correct, there are guns and calibers that are just downright painful to shoot for me. The ergos, the design, the absolutely magnificently engineered reduced recoil impulse make this a full size duty / home defense pistol that I can go and have a full range day and not have any problems. I can’t speak highly enough of this gun.

If you’re a member of the range, you can put 50 rounds through any of the guns available for consignment sale, and they had this chunky boi CZ 75 SP-01 in there that looked interesting. 20 rounds in and it felt like a mule had kicked my forearm. That low bore axis just kicks the majority of the recoil directly up the forearm. I’m probably imagining it, but it was like I could feel the hardware in my forearm react differently than the bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Oh, it shoots flat as hell, but it damn near ruined my arm for the next day (because, dumbass I am, I did, despite being in pain, finish the box of ammo).

It feels like the energy is coming a bit more over the top, like it slides from the slide coming back but then is counterbalanced by both the slide return and the frankly amazing grip texture and ergonomics (I’m a criminal defense lawyer, I don’t have the biggest hands to begin with and a lifetime of taking notes and typing hasn’t given me the hands that someone with a more labor intensive occupation might have) feel like anyway that most of the recoil is felt in my hands and kind of the front part of my wrist, if that makes any sense. There’s a little felt in the forearms, but not as much.
By comparison, my EDC is a Sig P365XL. If I put a 100 rounds through it at the range, I’m gonna feel it the next day in my forearms and my wrist. Not crazy super painful, but like when maybe you work out too hard at the gym, trying to go up a weight you weren’t quite ready for.

Run at least 2K rounds though each of them and it just keeps getting better. Zero malfunctions except for one that was due to the feed lips on the magazine but not the firearm. Just standard ball ammo to date and I am quite impressed. F series is part of my EDC stable. Pretty sure people will want to modify the hell out of these guns, and more power to you all if that is your thing but really all that is required is a Red Dot(if you want one), good steel sights and maybe a couple of PPQ MQ2 15+2 mags and you should be good to go. Trigger is phenomenal and for defensive purposes it’s perfect. By the way, Springfield Echelon seems like a great option as well. I would absolutely love it if they would release a subcompact version of this one. I recently inspected a Glock 26 (gen 5) and found that I couldn't rack the slide all the way back, and I've heard that the M&P9 SC is actually supposed to be more difficult than even that one. I'm a huge fan of the Ruger Security-9 full-size and will admit that I am intrigued by the new .380 that just came out, but I would prefer 9mm and after inspecting the Max-9 at the range and finding that the slide on that one was a real bitch, I'm unsure about whether the S9C will be easy to manipulate even though the big brother is super easy for me. If Walther can release a subcompact of this like they did with the PPQ while still maintaining the easy-rack slide, I would definitely consider buying. Even this one seems like a worthy contender (alongside the Glock 19) for an all-purpose or SHTF gun. How easy or difficult would it be for a smaller woman to conceal?

I have a fullsize Walther PDP Pro and I have to say its probably the best striker fired pistol on the market out of the box. The Pro trigger is phenomenal with minimal take up and short crisp 'icicle' break around 4-5 pounds with an equally short crisp reset. Not heavy and not too light for a CC/HD gun. The Pro magwell aids even more with the PDP philosophy of making the gun aim more naturally while using a red dot (I have a Steiner MPS on mine). Grip texture is great and the three sizes of backstraps is adequate. Its not HK P30/VP9 levels of comfy in the hand but close and even more grippy. Really the only con I have is the long slide stop/release is not in an ideal location for shooting with a thumbs forward grip but thats easily trained around with some range time.
I haven't held or shot the PDP-F but everything I've seen tells me the entire PDP line up is solid gold. Shame Walther isn't supporting their guns more with parts availability but not everyone can be the next Glock I guess.

Thank you for the thorough review. It's good to see the PDP/PDP-Frau getting more press. I have two (Pro SD Compact & F series) and they're both truly impressive when compared to their peers. I agree with you Mr. GnG, Walther went a bit far in trying to market so hard to women with this model. I get it, but they might be stigmatizing it a bit. Hopefully their marketing strategy going forward is a little stronger, and would love to see a subcompact version of the F, if anyone from Walther is reading these reviews. Super underrated pistols, reliability, accuracy, and the small touches make this pistol well worth while. Again, sensible review, well done, thanks for the solid content without excessive banter.

@@mc4056 The SD Pro Compact magazine capacity doesn't seem to affect the sense of size in the hand. In a way it's a clever use of space to absorb that extra capacity because it's mostly swallowed up by the magazine well, vertical space that would otherwise go unused. It fits my smaller hand very well from tang to magwell. And both models have different backstraps.

I was able to buy an F series frame (3.5 inch barrel) and I put my PPQ SC slide on it. If I’m honest, I did this mainly for aesthetics. I never use the flush fit 10 rd mags in my PPQ SC, and I wasn’t a fan of how it looked with a magazine sleeve on it. Also didn’t like that i had to worry about keeping a magazine sleeve on each 15 rd mag or make sure i kept ahold of the sleeve while doing mag swap. Looks 🔥.
That said, you can’t just buy an F series frame and run QSC slide on it. It took some figuring to make it work, had to swap a few parts. Wouldn’t recommend anyone trying unless you have already completely dis and reassembled a PPQ frame, including taking the single action lever and sear itself out of the housing, and setting them back in place.
Although some people weren’t fans of the different design of QSC compared to PPQ, I love it. Tried to break it with 10,000 rounds and never had a single malfunction. Did have to replace trigger return spring. Still wonder why Walther designed QSC the way they did, and my best guess is they were in a race to get a subcompact out to market before Canik did. They also didn’t want to interfere with production on any of their other pistols to make the SC, so they went with a design that required less machining. Canik is a Walther clone. The PPX and Creed were made in response to Canik’s arrival on to the market imo, and you def don’t want the clone to have a subcompact first.
