Thanks for the reply, glad you understand the situation with Leatherman. I was really disappointed when I failed to get “Mr Crunch” and when I was really on top of the #05 release time and was turned away because it was sold out so fast it really disappointed me.
Thank you for this review. I am a 40 year die-hard user of Leatherman tools and now main a Stainless Steel Surge as my daily carry and have used the Wave before that. I’m really looking to get into a different but comparable tool to replace my Surge if and when it fails, I will never buy another Leatherman tool again. As a long time faithful Leatherman customer I would think that I should be able to buy a Leatherman tool that I wanted like the Garage #1 and Garage #5 but both times they were sold out within seconds to buyers who were just looking to make a profit on reselling them, I checked EBay moments after they were sold out online and the first listing for a Garage #5 was already up for $900 OBO, the next listing was for $1100 OBO. This is Obscene and Leatherman should be selling these great tools to honest hardworking customers who have supported them for years not those resellers just trying to make a profit. This Tool you reviewed here really does look like a comparable replacement for my Surge and depending on your recommendation I will buy this and recommend it to others in my group of Mechanics that I work and enjoy time with. Let me know what you think and what your recommendation is. I trust you, I’ve been watching you and Texas tool crib for a long time and trust your opinions. BTW I own at least 7 current models of Leatherman tools that I use for different occasions or needs and own some multi tools from different vendors but have always came back to Leatherman, my most valued possession is my Surge and my black pullover Leatherman hoodie. That’s how much of a fan I am, and all my children and grandchildren have been given Leatherman tools of their own as gifts.
I fully share your opinion about the Garage series which is the subject of speculation that Leatherman knowingly encourages by the fact of drastically limiting its series. And about this Garage series, we can say that batches #004: EUROPE75 and #003: Parts are failures in terms of innovation. This speculation for which Leatherman is responsible can only permanently disappoint fans of the brand. As for the Daicamping DL30, four times cheaper than the Surge but well designed, I can only recommend it subject of course to testing its solidity (@multitoolsworld could make a destructive comparison :)).
@@diezelle57 Owning both Surge and Daicamping (Also owned their first ''Wave clone'' DL12) Dl30 I can confirm it works great. Glueing magnet to cheap 1/4 bit holder makes it more versatile and with some professional t-shank saws like those from KWB it really makes a great toolkit for me. Not too worried about breaking it, because it was affordable :)
Thank you this clone comparison. Curious if you happen to have the leatherman removable pocket clip for the surge leatherman and if the same pocket clip fits onto the Dl30?
In fact, there is nothing to talk about: Surge - this is about 20% better in the details of its design and 2-3 times more durable. DL30 is approx. 6x cheaper (depending on the country). For unprofessional goals, it makes no sense to buy a Surge (if you are not crazy about such things). If you are a professional, but for some reason you do not have standard equipment - Surge to you.
Hi again, I have my surge but don't like the leatherman flat bits, so my question was: if I disassemble surge and take a flat bit Holder and a can opener from it, can I put a bit Holder from dl30 into surge? Another words; is a dl30 bit Holder same size as surge's flat bit Holder + can opener measured together?
If you're going far from home and your life is going to depend on it, you bring the Leatherman. For your normal, everyday activities, you bring the DL30
Hello, can you make a video of taking this tool apart? I need to change pivots because I accidentally stripped screw and now knife is REALLY hard to open. Also, would you mind telling me name of the screw and parts I will need to change the blade side pivot?
Accidentally unscrew? It is a miracle! :) Torx T10 screws. Originally, the smooth blade is difficult to open (too much for a "one hand") which is not the case with the serrated blade. I understood what is happening: the liner lock is much too tight and exerts a force on the closed blade, hence the difficulty in opening it. Solution (which works for me): put a drop of oil on the nipple of the liner lock which prevents accidental opening and which is positioned on the small hollow at the origin of the blade. In my opinion the pivot screw is not in question and I doubt that you can find a similar one. Moreover, for disassembly, it is imperative to heat the tool because the screws are glued... I await your feedback.
@@diezelle57 OMGGGG, you are a LIFESAVER, drop of oil really helped. Now it is one hand operable and doesn't even have sandy sound when opening. Thank you very much, you saved from lot of trouble. I was on the verge of ordering new pivots fron the seller, but now I dont need it anymore.
What about the quality of the steel ? Surely the Leatherman will have a more durable steel ? I also wonder about the blades of the Diacamping, I've seen footage showing that they become loose over a short period of time.
I don't have a surge but I do have other leatherman tools and I have the bibury version of this videos tool. It is a pretty good buy for the money but no, the blades aren't at good as leathermans. Leathermans 420hc blade steel isn't a whole lot better though on the same point. Both are pretty stainless, average heat treat, and will service your general cutting needs decently.
Good review Diezelle, what you call the hard wire notch at the bottom of the plier head of the Surge, close to the wire crimper. Is in the leatherman website described as the stranded wire cutter ?. Its a bit confusing, you can cut stranded wire with the normal wire cutter though?. Anyway i ordered one to give away as a present. I will see how that one holds up.
Yes, this notch at the bottom of the pliers serves as a hard wire cutter, like stranded wire, brake cable: it will be cut more easily than with the wire cutter of the pliers.
I am far from a leatherman fan boy, I have always thought them too expensive, but even I think that the scissors are not that bad. There seems to be something wrong with your surge scissors, like perhaps they are bent outwards from previous use? Also, stiffness in the long run is a good thing. These tools always work loose over time.
I did some test cutting with the Surge's scissors before. So I would say that these scissors quickly lose their effectiveness. Leatherman is not known for making quality scissors unlike those from Victorinox.
Certainly, but the Chinese problem with multi-tools is that they have still not understood that the lack of traceability of their products (who manufactures and where?), their distribution under different names (Swiss+Tech, Bibury, HX Outdoors, etc.), the absence of a website and guarantee and the lack of innovation are all weak points for serious competition with the leader of the American and European markets.
It would be necessary to do a destructive test (Multitools world has closed its channel ...) .... Note that the use on the DL30 of double head bits with retaining ball is penalizing compared to Leatherman bits (bit bit) .
I keep my surge as a fallback tool for situations where trust that the will work is paramount. For me DL is a waste of money unless it csn stand the sane kinds of destructive tests that surge passes, its a no go for me.

What was your first multi tool .?
@@darinmullins4770 BuckTool 360 ! :)
@@diezelle57 i will check it out thank you !
Thanks for the reply, glad you understand the situation with Leatherman. I was really disappointed when I failed to get “Mr Crunch” and when I was really on top of the #05 release time and was turned away because it was sold out so fast it really disappointed me.
Saying a lot without a word. Thank you, sir!
This video is proof you don´t need any voice, annoying music or "cool" intro.
@@diezelle57 I agree that #3 and #4 were complete failures, I had no interest in them at all.
@@norho8129 thanks for the conformation on the DL30, I think I’m going to buy one as they are indeed low cost
Thank you this clone comparison. Curious if you happen to have the leatherman removable pocket clip for the surge leatherman and if the same pocket clip fits onto the Dl30?
now this is an in depth comparaison . thank you sir
In fact, there is nothing to talk about: Surge - this is about 20% better in the details of its design and 2-3 times more durable. DL30 is approx. 6x cheaper (depending on the country). For unprofessional goals, it makes no sense to buy a Surge (if you are not crazy about such things). If you are a professional, but for some reason you do not have standard equipment - Surge to you.
can we switch the spare reparts in case of broke? can i mount leatherman blade or leatherman scissors on DL30?
Je ne sais pas ...
Hello sir, do you know if the dl30 full size bit driver fits in surge without any modification? Thank you.
???
Hi again, I have my surge but don't like the leatherman flat bits, so my question was: if I disassemble surge and take a flat bit Holder and a can opener from it, can I put a bit Holder from dl30 into surge? Another words; is a dl30 bit Holder same size as surge's flat bit Holder + can opener measured together?
@@adamgaweda440 Width of DL30 bit holder: 8.58 mm.
Width of [bit holder + can opener] SURGE: 7.07 + one washer = 7.71 mm.
I think it's reasonable to say that you shouldn't expect Leatherman quality...
LEATHERMAN number one , muy por delante 👍

Thank you so much.
Can anyone help me to know if the file in daicamping DL30 is good file and same quality of leatherman multi tools files?
Yes, same quality but not as good as Victorinox files...
Thanks, so that type of stranded wire they mean😮
I love the DL30. I’ll never buy a Leatherman again.
Die besten Multitool Videos!
36:36 thank you for the nail cutting demo.
What do you think of the DL1?
Yet another copy of WAVE+... offered by other "brands" (Swiss+Tech, Nextool)...
Great video! So,as a conclusion,is it worth the 40Euro?
40 € ... oui, c'est une bonne affaire ! :)
Porfavor y gracias
@@LinternaCDMX Clé TORX pour les inserts, oui.
In my "corneroftheworld" I can buy a DAICAMPING DL30 for~$ 42.00 and the Leahterman Surge cost $355.00.
First observation that lock for saw on the dalcamp is weak. I give this tool a 9 points 10 being tops
I think, you can use small drop of super glue on shim and saw of Surge and tear it off(or use solvent)when you need to replace saw.
It would be necessary to do a destructive test (Multitools world has closed its channel ...) .... Note that the use on the DL30 of double head bits with retaining ball is penalizing compared to Leatherman bits (bit bit) .
