    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you sure the evap is not exempt in California? Some stations will hook it up to there little non official obd2 reader and if the something is not ready even if exempt they will tell you to keep driving. What are you driving ? so I can send you a more specific video for your vehicle?

      @@RANDOMFIX You are correct. The EVAP System Monitor is not a requirement in California for my model year. I misread my smog check inspection report. I also didn't pass Catalyst on my 2003 Honda Accord EX 2.4L. and that is why they failed me. I did the Honda cycle test last night for my car. The OBD2 today says Catalyst is complete. However, it also says Heated Catalyst not available. Am I good to go now? All other monitors except EVAP are green.

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, not available is n / a so it does not apply to your vehicle. You may run into some resistance with some smog stations not wanting to test your vehicle so just move on the next station instead of arguing with the smog technician if that happens.

      You need to address all pending codes or set codes. This video as about Vw covers the Vw smog more in depth th-cam.com/video/uh8BhqJpzGg/w-d-xo.html

      @Stizzy340 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RANDOMFIX Thank you very much I will review the video. I have no codes, I ran multiple ODB scanners no codes detected, no check engine light.. I initially had error code P05A0 (Active Grill Shutter), i had a minor accident (tree fell out in front of car and had front bumper damage, the shutters were indeed impacted and some broken) and I was aware of that being the reason to causing the check engine light and the code P05A0. I was able to replace the Part, after repair the codes were cleared and the car was driven to get ready, after 30+ miles driven no codes were detected after re-scan and everything was smooth but the Emissions center stated the car was not ready due to some "readiness" monitors (CC, F, EV, and C) .. after further driving some miles most of the other readiness monitors cleared by Emissions Center except for the EV one... I bought a ODB Scanner that scans readiness as well and the same trigger popped for EV like the Emissions center, but no other codes. I read up on it and through searching found this video due to EVAP.

      The evap system monitor is not ready and if there is an issue the evap system has not detected the issue. The evap system is exempt in many states including California, the only the state that requires the evap is Oregon. You should be okay to get tested and you should pass.

      They quickly check with a $50 obd2 reader, remember California is always trying to fine smog techs and the will send the smog techs vehicles that have issues on purpose so if the tech misses it the board can eventually fine them. It's a dirty situation from every angle and the consumer suffers. A dead give away that a tech is getting setup is the customer will pay with a fresh $100 bill. I know lots of smog techs and they are great people but they can fined $300,000 and they don't want an incomplete evap counting against them.

      RANDOMFIX Yes, I've done resets in the past & it just took a while. I have a buddy that has a 2010 Toyota pickup truck. No DTC info present. Has a service required light on it. Found out that was in the traction control module. Only higher end scanners pick this up. Also, resetting the system with a lower end scanner doesn't reset this. You need a digital analyzer.

    In AZ, can pass with one monitor not ready - Your vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) computer reviews the status of the emis- sions systems within the vehicle. During certain repair procedures, the status
    of these systems is reset by the repair technician. Status may also be reset by disconnecting or replacing the battery. After being reset, all systems have a “not ready” status, a condition that will exist until the manufacturer’s drive cycle has been completed, and system monitors are set to “ready.”

      High octane gas in an engine that does not need it, is just a complete waste. Octane is an explosion inhibitor. It prevents the gasoline from exploding too soon, due to an engine having high compression. It is technically weaker gasoline.

    Guys. 2000 Cavalier with only 60k miles. California car with no issues. Will not pass smog because it keeps saying 02S not ready. No one could figure it out. I eventually checked the fuel pressure regulator and it looked good, except when I watched it for two minutes with the vacuum hose off, it subtly started pooling gas. I changed the regulator and the car is running smoother now with less pops at the tail pipe. I have to run the drive cycle now several times because of the carbon build up. I’ll let you guys know if the 02S not ready monitor goes away. MAP sensor will be inspected next.

    • @jerichojoe307
      @jerichojoe307 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He is correct. It depends on what vehicle you are driving. All vehicles have their own manufacturer specifications for a complete drive cycle. For some cars that may take a couple hundred miles, and for some it can be done as easily as 25 miles. It all matters on what your manufacturer specifications tell you to do. I drive a 2007 Chrysler 300 Touring. Chryslers specs for my drive cycle are pretty simple. I had just got in the car from someone else and apparently they had cleared some codes and didn't tell me about it, so when I took the car to get inspected because I bought it uninspected; I failed for emissions because my OBD2 readiness was incomplete or not ready. My gas cap light was on in my car and so I replace the gas cap, the light did not go off and so I bought a brand new evap canister. Once installed; the light went off and I started my drive cycle following the manufacturer specs. In less than 30 miles, all sensors read complete and I got my emission test redone free since it was within 30 days of inspection. Not to mention that it may not necessarily be needed to pass a smog test in the first place. In Pennsylvania where I live you can still pass emissions with an EVAP light on or incomplete.

    • @ksull72487
      @ksull72487 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shit takes forever. Evap is like the only monitor not required to pass an emissions test. You could look up drive cycle for your make and model and try to replicate the conditions the Evap Monitor needs to perform it’s test. But that’s the worst monitor of them all. It literally requires a bunch to happen in a certain order. Even certain temperatures that test will not run or to little or too much fuel, trust me it’s stringent.
      Ignore it unless you got a code etc. Eventually it will perform its test.
      This is why it’s the only system not required to pass. If it just says incomplete or not ready and no codes. That test will eventually run when the parameters are met and a Asteroid hits earth lol. Every make and model it’s different but that one is always last to go green or Complete and isn’t required unless you have a Check Engine Light or Evap Related code.
      Short story it’s normal. Most cars have 8 monitors. Some have more. Evap is the only one that dosent need to be ready, it just needs to not have a related code aka a Check Engine light.

    have a P0420 code on my 2002 audi a4 that triggers the CEL even after my drive cycle with resetting the computer. I tried cataclean once and the CEL did return on my dash. Any recommendations how I can pass emissions without triggering the CEL and having the I/M ready for the oxygen sensors and CAT monitor?
    Is there a method to the drive cycle with having the oxygen sensors and CAT monitor to be in ready or ok status and not triggering the CEL on a P0420 code?

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So th p420 code is a little tricky and can be very expensive to fix. Although you tried cataclean, cataclean has go thru the combustion camber before it reaches the catalyst. For a more direct approach watch my bypass video on the complete smog playlist in the description not this video. Let me know how it goes. _Randomfix

    • @pristineproductions549
      @pristineproductions549 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m having a similar issue in my 2001 Yukon. (Same engine as your truck.). In short- the tech told me to search “Driving Cycle” for year, make and model. The following info is from GM. I’m going to try this process tomorrow.
      The drive cycle below will "complete" or make "ready" your vehicle's
      emission monitors, including the EVAP monitor, Oxygen Sensor monitor, air
      injection and EGR monitor.
      Be sure to obey all traffic laws while performing drive cycles. Perform
      the drive cycle at your own risk.
      Start Here:
      COLD START: Begin from Cold Start, and ignition in OFF position for at
      least 1 hour. Insure your Chevy Tahoe's fuel tank is ‪between 1/4 and 3/4‬
      full. Engine coolant temperature must be below 122°F and within 11°F of
      the ambient air temperature. Do not leave the key on prior to the cold
      start or the heated oxygen sensor (O2) diagnostic may not run.
      IDLE TIME: Run engine (do not drive) for 2 1/2 minutes with the air
      conditioner on and rear defroster on. During this period the ECU will be
      running the Oxygen Sensor Heater self-test, Air Injection System Passive
      Air test, EVAP Purge "No Flow" test, Misfire Detection.
      ACCELERATE: Turn off the air conditioner and rear defroster and begin
      driving your GMC. As soon as possible apply half throttle until
      55mph is reached. The ECU will now run self-tests on the Misfire
      Detection, Fuel Trim, and EVAP Purge Flow.
      HOLD STEADY: Hold your speed steady at 55mph for three minutes. During
      this time the Oxygen Sensor O2 response, Air Intrusive (AIS System), EGR
      Flow, Purge Valve, Misfire Detection, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be
      performed.
      DECELERATE: During this step slowly let off the accelerator pedal. Do not
      brake or shift in order to slow down. It is important to let your vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 20 mph. The ECU will once again self-test the EGR System, EVAP Purge System and Long Term Fuel Trims.
      ACCELERATE: Go ahead and accelerate again at 3/4 throttle until 55-60mph
      is reached. This will perform the same self tests as during the first
      acceleration step.
      HOLD STEADY: Hold steady speed once again. This time at 55mph for five
      minutes. During this time, in addition to running the self-tests as during
      the first HOLD STEADY step, the ECU will perform the catalyst monitor
      diagnostics.
      If the catalyst (Catalytic Converter) is
      marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5 complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst,or in order to Complete the CAT Monitor.
      DECELERATE: This will perform the same diagnostics as in the first Deceleration. Remember not to press the brakes or shift gears (don't press the clutch if equipped).
      This ends the drive cycle. Performing the drive cycle on your GMC at least twice will ensure all monitors run, including the EVAP monitor, and your GMC is ready for the smog check. This is assuming
      emission systems malfunctions do not exist.
      Setting Individual Monitors
      Catalyst Monitor (CAT):
      Prerequisite: No trouble codes present, Intake Air Temperature (IAT) above
      32 Degrees (F), Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) is above 167 Degrees (F);
      Mass Air Flow sensor is indicating greater than 15 gm/s, engine load is
      below 63% and steady, engine speed is below 3000 RPM.
      1. Idle vehicle 5 minutes (achieve closed loop)
      2. Drive 5 min at steady speed above 55 mph
      3. Drive 2 min at steady 40 mph
      4. Drive 2 min at steady 55 mph
      EGR Monitor (EGR):
      Prerequisite: No trouble codes present, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT)
      is above 75 Degrees (F); barometric pressure (BARO) above 72kPa.
      1. Idle vehicle 5 minutes (achieve closed loop)
      2. Accelerate and drive for 1 min at steady speed above 50 mph
      3. Slow vehicle down to 20 mph. Do not use brake clutch, or shift gears.
      4. Repeat steps two and three 5 times.
      GM and Chevy run their EGR monitor during the deceleration portion of the
      drive cycle.
      Evaporative Monitor (EVAP):
      Prerequisite: No trouble codes present, Fuel tank ‪between 1/4 and 3/4‬ full.
      1. Drive 5 min at steady speed between 30 and 60 mph
      2. Stop vehicle and idle engine for 4 minutes.
      3. Turn engine off. Remove ignition key.
      The ECU will run the EVAP Monitor once the engine has been shut down and
      ignition turned off.
      O2 Sensor Monitor (O2):
      Prerequisite: No trouble codes present, Intake Air Temperature (IAT) above
      32 Degrees (F); Engine Control Temperature (ECT) is above 167 Degrees (F)
      1. Idle vehicle 4 minutes (achieve closed loop)
      2. Drive 3 min at steady speed above 50 mph
      3. Drive 2 min at steady 40 mph
      4. Drive 2 min at steady 50 mph
