    I was watching this when it was on! I recorded the "Help!" movie onto audiocassette that night. I still have the cassette somewhere! Pretty weird to see this after 40+ years!

    Oh man I wanted to try the Irish Mocha Mint *so* bad as a kid growing up! Something about that little can and mixing the powder to make something delicious just fascinated me.
    LOL at that Vicks inhaler, 'it's chapstick you stick up your nose!' as my brother used to call it.

    Regis did a fantastic job on his various talk shows over the years!
    Some of ABC's best announcers, Len Beardsley and Ernie Anderson, can be heard doing various promos for KABC!

    Maybe the creators of Small Wonder watched that Thomas' English Muffins commercial a few too many times and decided "maybe that would be a good idea to make a series concept out of it".

    8:03--A cup of Irish Mocha Mint sounds really good right about now! I know those International Coffees are still around (now branded as a Maxwell House product), but I haven't seen that flavor in ages.

    Oh, I love these, even though I wasn't born until '83! I remember seeing Help! on TV during the holiday season when I was about 5 or so. During the scene where Paul shrinks, I asked my dad if that was the Beatle who had died (thinking in my young brain that he died from shrinking!) I went on to become quite the Beatlemaniac, and still am to this day.

      He died in 1914 but it was his daughter who made General Foods what it ended up being. That was a successful company. Later General Foods was sold to Kraft, then Post was sold to another cereal company, and then Post went independent.. They still have their main factory in Battle Creek, Michigan.

    Biggest disappointment as a child: my parents said they were going to KFC to pick up dinner. Naturally I was excited. Biscuits? Potatoes and Gravy? Three Bean Salad? And what did they bring back? POT PIES! I think I cried.

    Another great set of commercials. I was wondering if you've got anymore from this decade. These looked like they were taken from a nearly clear videocassette.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm guessing they came from a copy of a network aircheck, there are quite a few of those from LA affiliates floating out there from this era and home video recorders were not very common in 1978. I did use quite a bit of noise reduction on these to remove static, but it had very good color considering the age.

    That's strange. I don't remember this "Saturday Night Movie" at all, even though ABC was my favorite network at the time. I remember the late 1970s having the "ABC Saturday Night Movie." Did they quickly replace these bumpers with the twirling stars marquee because these graphics and music were so dull?

    Vicks Inhaler! I haven't seen one of those in decades. Didn't realize they still made them. Thanks for reminding me. I'll get one this winter.
