I'm starting to run out of sentences to express how valuable each one of your videos is...

Josh, this is really valuable content, I'm having a recital with a soprano friend on thursday and I couldn't solve one passage which has a fast chromatic scale, so this video helped me to solve it. Thank you very much Josh

Josh, we love your channel. We watched the videos on tuning and voicing, and technical work. We would find it very interesting to hear how in the world the piano keys were slowly developed, being the action so complex. It’s looks as sophisticated as the fingers themselves.

Great timing I was learning Rachmaninoff Italian Polka and it has a chromatic scale at the end which I wanted to speed up. Thank you this helped a lot

I prefer to start with 2 on my right hand chromatic scales because I have larger hands. Also a good exercise for keeping the 5th finger down during the chromatic scale is to practice by holding down a note with the pinky (usually a 4th or 3rd away) while you play each group of 4-5 notes. This has helped me.

My problem with chromatics on the piano is that it starts out clear and turns into mush, uneven. I suppose I need to slow down probably.

would you advise using the 4th finger, on bflat R.H. giving the possibility of fingers 1234 (going up)starting on g? and L.H. 4321 starting on F sharp (going up0 ?

Wow, I hear chromatic scales a lot when techs tune and maintain pianos!!! Every so often when I’m practicing at home because I play and record on it a lot, I check over the tone and whether there are changes like slipping treble or changes in tonal brightness. Sometimes there’s no time to focus on a piano’s quality when practicing repertoire or preparing for performances, it’s always the technique and musicality to internalise it rather than focusing on the piano itself.
