Stop voting for lawyers running for public office, at any level. Start electing business owners, teachers, doctors, etc. THEN we will start to see some integrity and change.
Unfortunately, business owners, etc. can be just as bad. They get the power and still only serve their own best interests. Or the interests of whoever will give them more money & power.
You can't elect regular folks, since largely the local populations are influenced by dumb issues like creeping shariah. Thus, the masses invite distraction, and reward it, since the want boogeymen.
By saying no he would be admitting there is a take (bribe), so um no it isn’t an easy no, of course not. . . More like, no, there is no take so I could not be in on one.
@@hfarthingt No, it's not. Are you on the take means are you being bribed, and if he isn't the answer is no. Also your answer of "there is no take" is ridiculous because if he isn't on the take how the fuck does he even know if there is one or not.
bob llopple Sure, in the few minutes he has to catch anyone’s attention he gives as best a breakdown as he can. If the viewer is interested, I’m sure they can pursue the matter discussed. If anything, he consistently does a good job of not only taking responses from each side but providing some grounds for his claims (articles and etc). More so than most anyway. Here for instance, what specifically did he oversimplify to your distaste?
Once again, John, you uncovered a bad situation and reported it quite well. Very fairly, as far as I can see. And it doesn't surprise me in the least to learn that there is corruption in municipal government in New Jersey. Thanks so much!
Thank you John for informative reporting and exposing the inefficiencies and corruption in our government. We need more members of the media to be like you.
It's exactly what happen in Brazil, everytime you ask "why" or "are you corrupt" they do not answer and prevent others from knowing that someone is asking and they are not answering.
John, thanks for being a real reporter in a world full of keyboard warriors. It's tough asking the hard questions while being treated like dirt by what seems to be not such honest people.
Very familiar story. In the city of Littlefield, Texas, the city issued advice, and then sold permits, to a guy who owns a small motel so that he could upgrade his RV Park next to his motel. The city observed the work, did all the inspections and passed all the inspections. But when it was time for the guy to fully open the park, the city suddenly said 'NO' you can't have an RV Park there. "It isn't zoned for it." And they would never back down. Many shenanigans by the city council and zoning board later, and the guy still can't use his RV Park that the city told him he could build. He only lost $30 thousand on the deal. Sucks to be him, I guess. All hail the mighty government.
Government corruption should be considered the highest of crimes! It's victims are literally everyone that they are intrusted to serve. Why not make corruption crimes carry the harshest of penalties and carry a lifelong ban from future public service. Create a true deterrent for this kind of behavior. Let it be known up front that choosing a life as a politician carries a much higher risk of long prison sentences if you decide to break the law.
Cheng Kejie, the former vice chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the body which runs parliament, was executed. He was convicted in July of taking $5 million in bribes, and executed after the Supreme People’s Court approved his death sentence on Sept. 7. *Execution for government corruption works.*
I was born in '92. It's almost insane for me to think this is what journalism is. You don't really lean to one side or the other, just present the B.S. and call it out. I've never really expressed how grateful I am for that. I've been subbed for a while but I only just realized I never thanked you. Even though I'm sure someone manages this channel for you. Please keep up the good work
Obvious you struck a nerve, and crooked is not just underlying, it's right in your face, and they don't care. Expose these bastards for everything they do. Thank you John for posting. Time to drain the Jersey swamp.
It's a great thing to do that which you did. The problem with people in power like this is they are vengeful. So a citizen goes up, talks truth to power....and then they go after the person in every way they can. Little things, this and that...whatever they can do. This process is repeated over and over again in this country...town to town. One, they are bullies and secondly, they miss the jist of the job. They think it's about extorting money and racketeering...but it's about serving. They should watch more Bonanza episodes and The Andy griffin show...cause the Constitution is too much for them.
Representatives are there to REPRESENT the people, in my eyes they should be no more than the people's bitch. I mean that with respect to the office but my point is that they NEED to be at the beck and call of THE PEOPLE. However, these politicians find it all to easy to abuse the power we (supposedly) gave them. Add to that the ability they have to investigate themselves... It's a fucking joke. I'm going to take a shot in the dark how this plays out... One: Nothing happens. Everything gets swept under the rug and then life goes back to us being us and them being them. Two: This story brings the right kind of attention and facing growing troubles the people at the center of this investigation "step down" from their position and get to retire with a glowing record enjoying full pensions. I'm taking bets. 😐
Agreed. They're retaliating against the people they " serve" for asking simple questions. Everything from police harrassment, health/ building/bussines/ " inspection s . Family/ child services, bogus reports, ete . The best they can do is plead the 5 th: refusing to be accountable to anyone while on the take. Pathetic. Syncophantic ,self- serving POS
Excellent video here. What you always want is for the person you are asking questions to, to decline to answer softball questions. “Are you on the take” is the easiest question that requires no lawyer. The moment someone hesitates for a split second, you have your answer. The lawyer didn’t want him to say anything because it was being recorded. If he said no and was lying, there was video evidence that would screw him over. However, this video is just that. Any reasonable judge would see this for what it really is. A confession without saying the exact words.
oh yeah! go get 'em john. the sad part is... such a thing couldn't take place unless the ENTIRE government structure, state, local & fed weren't just as criminal as this guy.
Daibes was also given the job of cleaning up Veterans Field because the dirt was polluted. One Saturday, his trucks dumped loads of even more polluted fill on the field. Luckily, the EPA just happened to be. Testing the soil that day, he was caught. Still continues to do whatever he wants in town. There are lots of stories, but the bottom line is he owns Edgewater and has for years .
...and the world keeps turning. Disgusting, sometimes I really hope for some kind of revolution. Even if it's bloody, as long as a restructuring does occur (for the better) I'd be happy.
Get'em John glad to see somebody's got the testicular fortitude to call out these cowards keep doing what you doing we love you. I'm sick of big government corruption.
And also you could see the corruption on their faces when you went in and put them on the spot specifically for their ties to the bigger company. They were all dumbfounded and scrambling for a way out of that situation!!!

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your country, John. I really appreciate what you do.
John, you should bring 50 other people with you, and as soon as you're finished, the next person just walks up to the mic and says, "Umm, yeah, same question..."
OmegaTou yes! And get uniformed police and decorated military to join in on this fun!!! Fill every seat with them.. so little escape and forced to confront the issue..
Or at least have to sit through everyone's five minutes of asking the same question. Perhaps they'd crack out of sheer frustration, and admit what a bunch of scumbags they are.
Agreed!
haha what a great idea!!!
They will never crack. They are too entrenched in their self-importance.
Don't you know that they are above you petty little slaves that put them into their exalted position?
What makes you think you could rise to the position to question THEM?

Corruption in New Jersey? I'm shocked!!
alaninnh
I'm shocked too!
Bada Bing
Wow. Ughhhh. It hurts to see such corruption happening in this free land. It really makes me want to cry because it goes against this great nation or once great nation’s essential rules to have a prosperous land.
I pray to God that all involved in this conspiracy if figured out to be corrupt that they all get guilt and pay for their actions.
I thank you John Stossel from the bottom of my heart for your courage and tenaciousness to face such people and to shine the light on such stories.
God Bless you John Stossel!
James Spencer Good idea!
@James Spencer: "Teachers" (?) Are you out of your mind (?) Teachers are among the most corrupt segments of our society (!)

You can't elect regular folks, since largely the local populations are influenced by dumb issues like creeping shariah. Thus, the masses invite distraction, and reward it, since the want boogeymen.
“Are you on the take?” Should have been an easy no, of course not.
By saying no he would be admitting there is a take (bribe), so um no it isn’t an easy no, of course not. . . More like, no, there is no take so I could not be in on one.

he is a simpleton.
Rob walcheck is pretty good too
@WilshirecityBlues its true stossel oversimplifies complex issues with his own dismissive tone/ narrative
bob llopple Sure, in the few minutes he has to catch anyone’s attention he gives as best a breakdown as he can. If the viewer is interested, I’m sure they can pursue the matter discussed. If anything, he consistently does a good job of not only taking responses from each side but providing some grounds for his claims (articles and etc). More so than most anyway. Here for instance, what specifically did he oversimplify to your distaste?
We need more John
The world needs more John Stossels
Once again, John, you uncovered a bad situation and reported it quite well. Very fairly, as far as I can see. And it doesn't surprise me in the least to learn that there is corruption in municipal government in New Jersey. Thanks so much!
Thank you John for informative reporting and exposing the inefficiencies and corruption in our government. We need more members of the media to be like you.

Brilliant, John. I hope every citizen in Edgewater sees this.
Yes, thank you John but don't take it personally. This council treats everyone like dirt!
Wow, Stossel is amazing! He has the integrity to confront the real problems. Like a real reporter!
Real journalism.

This also reflects the hypocricy of governments seeking inexpensive housing. Opening RV parks, mobile home parks are shut out.
Wait - I thought Texas was great!
Mr. John Stossel, you are officially one of my heroes! Great work right here!
It's completely appropriate for him to ask these questions in that meeting. Those men are corrupt.

Please keep up the good work
Stossel you are a wonderful journalist. Confront these dirty politicians on there stuff.
I was born in New Jersey and spent most of my life there until adulthood. I will say by New Jersey levels of corruption this is light lol.

Great story, Mr. Stossel! Glad to hear that justice prevailed but a probation & $75K fine is not enough; need some jail time!
John Stossel is a true journalist, strike hard against the corrupt!!!
Caught red handed on camera, stammering like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar.
I can testify to that, poisonedbymyneighborfromhell.com
*_MAYBE WE SHOULD FUCKING DO SOMETHING..._*
If Stossel wasn't semi famous and upper class the city would hunt and silence him
Excellent video here. A confession without saying the exact words.
the lifeblood of our nation is a healthy distrust of government
This is what the media should be doing!!!
Media nowadays doesn't have any balls. They consumed too much soy from their leftist SJW overlord.
how many people take their lawyers to city council with them COME ON
ron Tor little little men do that. “I’m scared that someone is calling me out. Let me hide behind my lawyer / secret lover.”
oh yeah! go get 'em john. the sad part is... such a thing couldn't take place unless the ENTIRE government structure, state, local & fed weren't just as criminal as this guy.
i suppose this fair and honest exposèe/reporting is why you are no longer on ABC
or Fox....
9 down votes so far - I'm guessing it's the Mayor, Council members, Mr. Daibes, and a couple of their family members.

John is tremendous. That Mayor's and his attorney's eyeballs were probably sweating when they saw John. I have been watching John for 50-60 years since he was a local reporter in NYC for CBS.
A bunch of crooks and criminals!!!
There should be an investigation going on. When you look at how they behave when they get the questions it seems to be clear that there is more dirt on them.
Silence is golden - the people know what’s going on. They should be sued and tied up in court forever.
John Stossel, you are probably one of very few that seek the truth. Bless you for what you are doing. These people you are questioning are corrupt and they don't like that you are confronting them about it.
I love how you differentiate between capitalism and corruption to sum it up at the end
