i TURNED 65 Nov of 2018 and was told I was too old to fly big jets anymore. That first day of 65 yrs old I was shopping In Hendersonville TN near my home, and at 0730 a man said: "how are you today?" I replied, "I'm doing good sir, and you?" He said he was good. As we passed I kept thinking I knew him. About 3 minutes go by and then I realized who it was. I saw him again in the pet food section and I said "Sir, you sure look like John Conlee!" He looked down, then up and then at me and said "That's because I am John Conlee!" and he chuckles. We shook hands and I told him I loved his music. It made my day, and he was so polite.
I think this song was written about me. Still using my father and grandfather's 1956 farmall tractor, all of my farm equipment is old, I drive a 1994 Dodge Dakota and I still hand nail all the carpenter jobs I do. I have never had any thing I've built that way get damaged in a storm. But most of all I still love this style of music. Thanks for sharing
I am a retired farmer and I feel the same way. I loved them old 40s &50s "H" & "M" Farmalls. I ran several of them as utility tractors and kept a couple in the junk pile for parts. I learned to rebuild the governors and adjust the valves. Only tractors I could do that on. I sold them all in 2017 when I retired. I liked the line about the old shirt that fits just fine. I have about three shirts I feel real comfortable in. Guy Clark made some of the great songs.
