I am an old man who did not grow up in Florida, yet this song applies to so much of this country that has been lost. I do not recognize the farmland, open spaces and forests I grew up loving and yet took for granted. I wrongly assumed that they would always be there.
Ya Know no one can do this type entertaining to us quite like John. I saw him in person one lonely night along with my brother and sister in law to be many many years ago. Our favorites at that time were Chicken Truck, Old Chunk of Coal, Black Sheep and of course Swingin' ! It was a roadside type of diner/bar thing just like this >> in Virginia . Hard to believe it has been over 30 years since I saw him. Seems like yesterday. What an impact. He sounded and acted just like this !!! A true entertainer .. I was born & raised in Naples, FL. I remember when he came out with this song, I had been married 9-10 yrs and had been in SC since I had married. Now after being married over 37 years, this song is even more impactful. The Naples that I was born and raised in has been built up & over by progress. South Florida just isn't what it was 35-40 years ago, thanks to "progress". ☹️☹️☹️
