Wow. This is the kindest most human cleaning with chronic illness video ive found. 1) Hydrate and nourish 2) Pace (timers and wearables) 3) have a schedule of tasks and be flexible 4) rest more than you are cleaning (mandatory❤) and do compensatory strategies e.g sit to do things rather than stand 5) batch cleaning (section off areas) use bins to collect items to be relocated to their sections. 6) do little tasks when you can. E.g put it away, dont put it down Sorry i got really tired half way through. This video is sooooo good though. Lots of love to my fellow spoonies
The beginning of this video made me tear up. I feel like no one really talks about how hard it is to let go of the old expectations you have of yourself and your living space, so hearing "it's okay to not meet those expectations" hits different. Thank you for these tips
Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad I could remind you that it's okay to not meet whatever "normal" expectations are 🥰 it's so hard to not put that pressure on ourselves, I needed this little reminder myself as I'm having an asthma flare and my chores are piled up on me 🫠
What i found most helpful is minimalistic lifestyle. I have everything thats not something i want to get rid of or have out in boxes. Have my home relatively easy to clean without clutter and random stuff. I also clean after i have done something. If cooked, i clean before eating. If drawing, tidy up before rest (and before i hit the zero energy level). A five minute clean a day is a lifesaver. U do whatever u need to do, bit usually tidying up a tiiiiny bit each day helps keep the clutter and unnessecary shit away on daily basis. Keep the home easy access but feel cozy can be an adjustment, BUT every sickness do better with a tidy home. How u fix that is up to the individual to solve.
I totally relate to this! I spent a few years just going through each room and doing brutal declutters so I only had what I needed or REALLY wanted and it has changed the cleaning game for the better. It is so much easier to keep up with now that there is just less stuff 🤷♀️ I also like the clean as I go method as well because it just makes it easier. Cleaning something fresh takes way less energy then if it sits and dries on a surface 🤷♀️
I do the moving stuff around the house "on my way". So, let's say I'm in the living room and I'm going to the kitchen to get something. I'll look around the living room to see if there is something in there that belongs in the kitchen. If so I'll pick it up and bring it with me, the same goes for stuff I see along the way that either belongs to the place where I'm going or someplace else along my route there. It's a really simple thing to do that saves a lot of small amounts of energy, but all those small amounts add upp and save a lot in the long run.
@@xosammtastic I am the mom of four boys. And it would take me over an hour to clean the kitchen floors after every meal… That is not mopping. The robot vacuum has been a total game changer. I just got a cheap one for less than $200. There are lots of other accommodations that I’ve made too. I would love to share them with more of the Sponey community, but I don’t have the energy to do a TH-cam channel or blog lol kudos to you 👏
@@erinnicolefranco6807 I'm absolutely going to look into one! And I totally understand that, it takes a lot of energy. I don't have kids or else I wouldn't be able to do this either 😂 so kudos to you as well!
Thank you for this. I am recovering from a pulmonary embolism and have never been sick before, now I can not do much without getting breathless. This was very helpful for me to try to do small tasks, and not wear myself out. And know it's ok if I can't do what I'm used to doing.
It is absolutely okay! I know it's a really hard transition going from doing anything without thinking to planning your tasks out, but I'm so glad it helped you! 😊 Thank you for watching
I have a bissell mop that basically mop the floors itself. You just have to walk with it and have your hand on the handle. But it has a sensor so it pulls itself in different directions and moves around objects. It’s been game changing for me. Along with my lightweight, cordless shark vacuum, and my electric tile scrubber for the shower and bathtub, and an extendable duster. I’m single with no children so I live alone. I’m able to tidy up after myself and keep my home really clean then I only need to do a deep clean of the shower and toilets and the floors every 12 weeks minimum.
Thank you so much for this! It truly hurts and is so frustrating when you cant do the things you used to be able to! Its a physical, mental and emotional battle! I am sensitive to cleaners and love to use vinegar, i found out you can neutralize the smell by soaking lemon peels for a few weeks and straining it out. I mix thst with dish soap and borax and it is an incredible all purpose cleaner that is super safe and you don't have to scrub!! Oh and i leaned the hard way, the smart watches have great features but the EMF can actually zap our energy and damage mitochondria, so ive opted to not use them and instead use my phone on airplane mode or wired connection. Checking things out with an EMF meter was a GAME CHANGER and i got soo much better when i reduced my exposures. Blessings and much love to everyone here dealing with cheonic illness 💕Its not easy but you CAN AND WILL get better. One day at a time. 💛
Hello, thank you so very much for posting this video. I had to stop anyway because you had me in tears. Not sad tears but happy tears because no one truly understands when you are disabled person with chronic illnesses. You have opened my eyes to so much and I thank you. I am disabled I have asthma and I have seizures and other ailments as well. I'm doing my head what you were saying is correct but recently I had a serious crash as you say due to multiple seizures in one day over a course of a couple of weeks I felt it coming. But I continue to push myself anyway. Because of people's expectations of me and of my expectations of myself. Due to wanting to be my old self. So thank you very much that I have found you and your video at this stage in my life I asked God to continue to bless you and others will post videos and others who watch them. Because they really do help and they are really supportive to people in our situations. Please continue to post thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm so glad I was able to help, that's the one thing I really hope to gain from these videos is just helping people feel understood and find ways to live life within their limits!
If you have any more tips about chronic illness and cleaning, that would be lovely. I have developed many health issues and need as much help as I can get.
I can absolutely make another video for cleaning tips! I know how hard it is to get the day to day stuff done in our situation. Thank you so much for watching! I'm open to any more suggestions you have as well 😊
Sam, thank you!!! Watching this has helped me so much. Just over the not feeling guilty. And the timing, I always do until I can''t then I can't for the rest of the day sometimes running into the next. Love you girl. Oh! I got a steam cleaner, it is wonderful for corners and places that are hard to get to.
I'm so glad I could help! 😊 💕 There is too much stigma around limitations, we aren't machines and there is nobody to replace us if we run ourselves into the ground so I really just want to help normalize that our bodies need accomodations! Love you too! And I was actually looking into one of those, glad to know it's worth it!
I am a minimalist now. Declutterred the stuff in my apartment to manage easier. I am a full time wheelchair user. I am 53. I have Spina Bifida a Chiari 2
Yes I love content like this and please post more thank you. Another tip that I do have I found here on TH-cam is to make cleaning products yourself because it will have a less of a chemical smell Toyota I have made a all-purpose cleaner using I think a little bit of dish soap water and vinegar as you said I believe. I have made disinfectant from vinegar and water and just a little essential oils if you can't take the smell of the vinegar. I've made spot cleaner other things like that. And also I tried to use a steam mop to clean the floors because that helps you can maybe go over one pass or two. And you are so right about sweeping thank you for that idea I will look into getting one of those type of machines or so I might have one I'm not sure. What is your take on those they were made in the 70s you roll them across your floor and they have these little boxes up under that traps the dirt and then you flip the Box and the dirt comes out is that better than sweeping. I forgot what you call them. And I also have a power brush I bought it off of HSN that you just click the button and it also helps you clean the shower as an extension and everything so you don't have to stand up or been down it has helped me so much and my cleaning.
Those rolling type machines you're talking about work great as well, especially on harder floors and low-pile carpets! Growing up my friend's mom had one for quick clean up. I should look into a extender to help clean the shower, some days I absolutely can't bend over or kneel, thank you so much for the ideas!
Before I got sick I cleaned professionally and e dish soap and water is a favorite hack mostly because it works so well! Many professional window washers use it, works better than window cleaner. Makes sense when you think about it. You wash your GLASS drinkware with dish soap and water and windows are made of glass too...
thank you so much for offering this very helpful advice, i love the idea of using the bins for organizing it may sound simple to someone who doesn't have chronic issues but i really love your technique . i found stopping myself really helps too when cleaning , and knowing when to stop is part of it. keep going !! xox
Thank you for watching and the kind words ☺️ I'm glad you like the bins idea, it has really changed the game over here! It's so much easier to just have things in one spot when I have the energy to put it away (and I don't have to look at the mess lol)
This video is so real 💯 The getting yourself to ask for help hit the hardest for me. I feel the same, I want to do it myself and having to live with the reality of not being able to is harsh. Thank you so much for this 💜 the advice is awesome and I especially appreciate you spending spoons on making this. I'm sure it's a lot of thought and work, that goes into it and it shows 💜
You just made my whole day! Thank you so much! 🥰 I still struggle asking for help more than I'd like to admit and it's exactly what you said, the reality that you can't do it alone. It's a level of vulnerability a lot of people don't understand.
I'm so glad they were helpful! Unfortunately, they don't make the exact stick vacuum I have anymore, but it is a Dyson V8 Animal. I know Dyson is super expensive which is why I didn't want to recommend it in the video 😂 but I do think it is worth it if one of the other models is in your budget!
