Is it normal after 4 days and dry healing from what my artist told me to do. Most my tat isnt peeling yet but some is on my hand and my hand slightly red on day 4 amd 5 due to having to use plastic gloves for 30 mins at work a day

I love dry healing my tattoos for the first couple of days when it's still in that "wound" like or "gunky plasma" fresh tattoo stage and after that I introduce some lotion/creams. I find this makes it heal and scab over much quicker than if I was to use lotions and creams when it was still weeping. X

I dry healed my back tattoo also and it was a great experience. I had little to no discomfort and it healed really quickly! I agree though I probably wouldn't dry heal anywhere that's constantly visible to me (Arms/legs) because I'd want to pick at it and notice the itchiness more. Thanks for sharing your experience, your channel is very helpful for someone like me who has limited experience and a lot of tattoos planned for the future!

I'm so glad you talk about this method because it's literally the only one that works for me. I get bad reactions from AD and aquaphor so I've had no choice but to dry heal and it works very well especially for out of reach tattoos!

Have you tried healing your tattoos with Tegaderm/Tatuderm? It's a breathable "skin" that sticks on the skin and stays on for the duration of the healing process, no scabbing att all since it makes the tattoo heal from the inside out with the bodys natural fluids and stuff. It makes the darks heal darker and the colors heal brighter and more shiny, and it heals completely in like 7 days. If you haven't tried it, you definitely should!!
Sorry for a long post, just wanna give you a good advise!

Idk why folks do so much to their tattoos. I asked my artist and shop owner about how they heal THEIR own heavily tattooed bodies and they said simply leave it alone. Wash when you're in the shower, pat dry, that's it. They said it's like a wound- would you lotion a wound? No. Why block a wound from getting air? Let it breathe. The peeling is normal. It happens for a week and then everything is fine. Dry healing is just that- dry, no lotion. Lotion made my first tattoo develop a weird wet scab. Dry healing left me with perfection.

When you're healing a regular wound you're not worried about losing colour. Also tattoos affect the skin like a burn and they do wrap and use creams on burns.

hey, thanks a lot for this video! I already had some tattoos but tried this healing method with two that I got recently and it worked very well! They way I used to do it, it took about two weeks to heal them completely and the one's that I'm dry healing right now are good by now (one week exactly), the smaller one was healed completely after about 5 days and the other one is probably going to be completely fine by tomorrow. Really cool! Thank you!

I tried this method for the first time with my most recent leg tattoo and it healed SO well. For some reason, healing my leg tattoos are always a pain in the ass but dry healing really made a difference. I don't see myself using any other method for future tattoos. Not gonna lie, I used to be the person who thought "you have to let your tattoo breath." But wrapping it while sleeping not only helped the tattoo heal nicely but helped me sleep much better and more comfortably.

I tend to get my larger tattoos done in multiple sittings (linework, shading and color) and in my experience, it's better to only dry heal the linework. It has less surface area and doesn't get pulled as much (I hope you know what I mean). And color can end up healing patchy if you let it get too dry

    • @KingJettex

KeenScream Oh! Depending on the size it should heal faster because no colors were used! But also during your process stage always always make sure its moisturized though because it may fade, apply a thin layer though. We all heal differently but don't let the tattoo be too dry.

I got my first tattoo almost a month ago and it was only slightly red the first day, but it never oozed or scabbed over. It was sore the first few days. I kept it cleaned and after the first day I used A&D cream to keep it from drying for the first week and it only flaked a little while using the A&D cream. My tattoo is all black since it was a feather with words. The words was a little raised the first week, but after that they weren't.

A quick tip for washing your back is what my artist suggested to me. The best way to wash your tattoo on your back is by using a back brush! (found at your local bath store or the bath aisle of Target)
I use that on the 4th day of healing. days 1 - 3 I wash with my hands & antibacterial soap. Cheers!

Great video. I've never heard of this method. I've always just used antiseptic cream, on my new tattoos, then moisturiser after a few weeks of the scabs falling off. I've heard tattoo glue, is the best way to keep tattoos looking brand new. Yes, I always wear loose clothes, during my tattoos healing. 👍

CeraVe is a great unscented lotion for anyone wondering. Also great bra tips! I got a rib piece and had to do a school play the next few days (day 2/3), had to wear a bra so I just put a paper towel on my tattoo and took my bra off after the shows. So if anyone MUST wear a bra w a rib/boob tattoo go on the loosest wire setting and put some form of bandage over it.

Have you ever used a tegaderm after getting a tattoo? I've done it twice now, and it's super easy. Get tattoo, wash tattoo, place patch.... then nothing for about 4 days. After that: remove patch, wash a few times a day and aquaphor as needed. Is this a crazy thing to do? The last two tatts healed quickly, and I was totally done with the whole thing in about 2 weeks
EDIT: Timeline was a little off. Fixed.

I heal my tattoos by as soon as I get home I put a as hot as you can stand soaking wet compress over the wrapping it helps with the redness and just feels so good. I wait 24-48 hours before taking the wrapping off just because I have a dog and cats that shed so much. I then wash the tattoo in just water to get the ink and gunk off, I tried washing with soap the first tattoo I got and it got really red, so for the first time I don't use soap. Then I don't put another bandage on it, I use Hustle butter that the my tattoo shop gives me 3 times a day for 5 days or maybe less depending on how it feels, then I just put it on whenever it flakes to much but I usually leave it alone while its flaking and forget about it. That's how I heal my tattoos.

Hey Qcknd! I loves your videos and I've found them so insightful! I have a question about tattoos as a currently un-tattooed person (although I'm hoping to be at some point!). I see flash work by tattoo artists on Instagram etc that I really love but sometimes I think 'wow I'd love that but it's a bit too big for my liking'. So my question is, with flash sheets is it a case of taking the piece as it comes or would it be rude/not except able to ask if the piece can be made smaller than the flash piece?

I got my first two tattoos on the 2nd, I took ideas from your tattoo healing videos to heal mine and they are BEAUTIFUL! Still scaly but I moisturize regularly.
I kept my tattoos wrapped for 5 hours after he tattoo, washed them with Dr. Bronner's unscented baby soap, not diluted, put a little aquaphor on it (which I'm not gonna use anymore cause although it helped heal them it broke out my skin on/around the tattoos, luckily I didn't lose any ink on those areas) and I let them breathe in the day and wrapped them with lightweight gauze at night.
I did that for three days then they started peeling so I just moisturized a ton with First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, it made a world of difference. :)
Thank you for sharing and helping me, a former tattoo Virgin, heal my tattoos safely and effectively!

Emily M when do you start using it? right away after washing it the first day?

are you getting more colors added? bc it looks pretty cool with just the pink and teal-ish colors!

I've never dry healed before about two months ago. i moved recently and my new tattoo artist is super super strict about dry healing, but my skin typically is so dry to the point where it will get really irritated if it's not moisturized, I really have to baby it to take care of it. I dry healed for the first time a couple months ago on a pretty big piece on my leg, and it hasn't really recovered and is just sooo dry still down there. And it may be a wait and see situation but...you know, I wanna make my guy proud lol but I think I will try your "in between" method next time 'round and see how it works out.

What if it's on your arm and live in a tropical area? I want to get one on my forearm and although I am usually indoors in class, I am still exposed to sun and can't always cover my entire arms. Would yiu recommend to still wrap it after the 3 days to protect it? Or any other suggestion?

sorry if I missed this, but what is the benefit of dry healing? if it takes longer, and is more itchy, why do you prefer it?
