Great review. I must say you are brutaly honest, which is very refreshing. I was surprised at the Daiwa handle movement but, I loved the very simple solution to the line cutting problem, who knows maybe Seakight will see this and do somthing thenselves.

Love Andrew’s knots videos, his knowledge & detail to attention is second to none, I think one of the top manufacturers should snap him up as a consultant. Keep passing on your excellent tips to all of us ( feeder addicts) & more videos of yourself fishing the river Trent please !

Just got my reel and had chance to play with it for an hour. I am totaly happy about the real, everything like on the video. I have 3000 size. Was comparing it with cheap daiwa and not shure, if it feels better than Daiwa RX LT. Which should be good comparison in price. More or less feels the same. Few small details beter in WR3, others on Rx Lt. One thing is important to me is bail. And the daiwa's one is definetly lighter and smother. But this is just first impresion, still to cold here to test reel in the field. But anyway, I am happy with reel and will use it on my lighter setup, for roach. Reel powerful, because the handle is long. Maybe to long just a bit for my taste, but to early to tell. Need to use it first. (Definitely will try to soften bail)

At the moment you realysed your video I was looking to buy new reel. Just bought one you recomended... shiping from poland to lithuania should be quick. Was thinking about daiwa's cheaper options, but will give wr3 a try. And as always, best quality videos on youtube about how to fish. Keep it on.
By the way, i always rebuilding or moding my reels too :) especialy line clip

Great video. I've seen these for £20 vs £200 for the latest TDR.
Sometimes there are additional sharp edges around the hole that the clip goes through too.
I don't clip-up like you. Your line goes past the clip and wraps anti clockwise around the whole clip like a gamma symbol, so difficult to unclip quickly.
I simply hook the line on the underside the clip only like a u shape
This is much easier to unclip if required in an emergency to play a big fish. It never pulls out by accident either when the line is taught.

Thank you for this review, the timing was perfect as I’d decided I needed a new reel but didn’t want to spend a fortune. I picked up the 4000 for £32 off Amazon. Have you tried the Seaknight Blade Nylon? Thinking of getting some to go with it.

Andrew, great review. For some reason I have bought quite a few baitcasters off Aliexpress but never bought a fixed spool reel (spinning reel). I have been using Seaknight braid for a while and I rate it, very limp, casts well off a baitcaster, not so good off a fixed spool. Have you looked at the Seaknight baitcasters, the Slardar looks nice but not sure whether to buy a Falcon, ridiculously cheap. I have a KastKing Royal Legend II 200 which i only used this week, superb reel.

Andrew. How are you getting on with this reel? Do you still recommend it as strongly after sometime using it?
Also, do you recommend getting a large size ad some reviews show that they are smaller than expected (when compared to other brands)

    • @AndrewsKnots
      @AndrewsKnots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So far they are ok. Spool sizes are similar to Daiwa LT or a bit bigger.

I wonder what is your opinion after years. Three years ago i bought mine SeaKnignt Treant 5000 for light feeder fishing (up to 50g). Back then people were praising those reels for solid construction based on daiwas LT series, however mine failed several weeks ago, after very little use. Last years were very busy for me so i managed to use this reel only 5-6 times on commercial fisheries and i've caught only several small carps and breams (under 3kgs). Gears inside are already deformed, sounds like old hand-powered coffe grinder and tend to lock themself while spinning. Design maybe is solid but quality of internal parts leaves much to be desired

I don't own the Treant and used SeaKnight maybe 20 times. So far so good.

I worked in the tackle trade for a lot of years and was obviously a consumer long before that. There was an obvious point when reels sold for the uk market went backwards in quality. The similarities between that Korum don't surprise me, its one of lots of examples where a company trading in the uk outsources its products. This isn't always a really bad thing when you compare with the alternative products but there are still differences in engineering quality between japanese built shimano's and anything available as new today.

As an aside, on your recommendation I bought one of these reels. I don't trust the opinion of many anglers so you obviously have a trustworthy demeanor. I disagree with you on one point. My Seaknight is smoother than a TDR! There is one obvious feature that marks a cheaply manufactured reel, this being the wire spring that the spool sits on but there are other features like the wind on handle that you normally have to pay atleast £100 for. My 5000 sized reel is a tiny bit smaller than other 5000 sized reels but I'm not disappointed in the slightest. Its worth noting that I got the impression from your film that the handle knob is soft foam. It isn't, its a foam material with the firmness of say rubber. On the line clip issue I just gave the edge of the spool a quick tickle with wire wool (5 seconds) without removing the clip, and this dulled the edges plenty with no obvious damage. The clutch is absolutely brilliant, indeed smoother than my shimano stradic fd. Thanks for your recommendation. Very thorough and very truthful.
