- This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Marvel Comics character named "Chasm." From Ben Reilly being recruited to the shady Beyond Corporation as their own privatized Spider-Man, learning the truth about his employer after getting a secret hard drive from Doctor Otto Octavius that held dark company secrets, losing the memories of his genetic template Peter Parker and later being fooled into thinking Peter was his enemy, a battle with Spidey resulting in his exposure to Beyond Corp's strange psycho-reactive goo, his superhuman mutate powers evolving to allow his Spider-sense to psionically and automatically counteract any imminent threat as well as fashion usable objects from his web-shooters, allying with Madelyne Pryor aka the Goblin Queen after making a device to visit the Limbo realm, to being given the Queen's Scythe of Sorrows by his beloved Hallow's Eve and temporarily becoming the massively powerful being known as King Chasm; Let's take a look at this new iteration of a fan-favorite Marvel anti-hero, and one of the most uniquely powered versions of Spider-Man's clone. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

I hope he becomes the Scarlet Spider again. Maybe with some of the Chasm powers? He's such a cool character with a life that was a lie a billion times! He has a soul because he was killed and resurrected 30+ times and went insane for awhile. Also, nuts now.
Seeing Ben Reilly feeling miserable and distraught makes me understand how difficult it is for him to regain the memories he acquired from Peter Parker. Chasm is basically the "Red Hood" of Marvel because He's Spider-Man's greatest failure and mistake.
Perfect comparison red hood aka Jason Todd is one of my favorite dc comics anti heroes.

When is marvel going to stop making ben the villain
I don't know...this run seems so contrived and stupid. Ben and Peter have a rocky relationship, sure. But he's not above helping people like Ben if presented with a strong case. And suffering from total ego death...yeah I think Peter would be more than willing to help. But then they turn him into a straight up villain, who wants to murder Peter to eat his memories. Then when he finds out the Tree is dying, and subsequently has the power to at least find a way to save it, he invades New York as King Chasm. WTF?!

I started reading Spider-Man near the end of the Clone Saga, at the time of the Great Game. Ben Reilly was my Spider-Man.

so Ben has a spider-sense that's more suited for offense and counterattacking and Kaine has a spider-sense that's even more precognitive and actually allows him to see into the future although this sometimes confuses him

Chasm has one of the best Spiderman-inspired designs and I've always loved the Scarlet Spider's personality in contrast to Peter Parker's, both Ben Reilly and Kaine brought their own unique twists. I hope he becomes a mainstay and maybe more of an antihero than a villain, since that design and his abilities are really amazing.

Gotta admit out of all the versions of spider man, this is one of my favorites. But I gotta ask, do you think you can do one of Morlun? Everywhere I look I can’t find his origin. I don’t know much of the character but he seems like an incredible spider man villain. I just think that would be really cool

Personally, I like that Ben and Janine are shown striking back since it seems like the whole world has duped them. I don't understand why everyone hates this idea, since they've both been thru hell. Everyone's let them down, Janine's been to prison for killing her abusive father, Peter's never been as appreciative to Ben as he should (since he's taken over for him being Spider-Man more than once) so it makes sense that they've just had enough. The idea of them teaming with Goblin Queen was also a stroke of genius, since she's been treated like shit too!
The only issue I have is the ending, since it ends on a weak note, but Marvel is definitely not done with this idea. Here's hoping whiny fans won't ruin the whole thing, but I won't hold my breath.

I'm sorry but...maybe I need to read the comic but, this all seems so fucking stupid. If they kept it at Ben needing Peter's memories maybe that's be ok. And kept both jeani and Ben in limbo as permanent residenta. They didn't need to make Ben the big bad like this. Like, what even is his motivation anymore? He had the power to find a way to save the tree, and then he uses it to conquer New York as king chasm. Like...what?! I know the clone saga ballooned into an uncontrollable disaster...but this..this is really stretching things.

At least Ben Reilly being Chasm being portrayed as a villain is only a temporary thing that will only be a matter of a short period of time for that to change, what is really terrible is that Peter Parker will continue to be treated as a poor miserable loser who will continue to work and depend as a lapdog of Norman Osborn until The Amazing Spider-Man comic stops selling, that's a terrible idea that will continue to stay in force for a long time.
These new writers are too much on coke. Ben deserves a better story than turning into a monster.
