he is Bill Gudenrath, resident artist at corning museum of glass, exceptionally skilled solo blower, and detective of technical processes. he will create fifteen or twenty pieces by himself or with maybe one or two assistants, in order to puzzle out what he believes is the process used to create the original. and hes done so for decades now. hes really a treasure both as an investigator and a teacher, and hes also an incredibly skilled helicopter pilot, and if he really likes you, he will play piano for you cuz hes awesome at that too.
This guy is one of, if not the best glass artisans I've yet to see! Every one of his pieces are flawless and he makes it look so easy. Like anyone could do it, which truth is, not many people can and especially at such a high skill level. This man's passion for the art comes through in each one of his pieces.
I know almost nothing about blowing glass. What I do know is that he makes it look effortless. I've been binge watching these videos tonight, and all I can say is this: magic is real. This guy can take sand and turn it into such breathtakingly beautiful pieces... that's magic, all right!
Lisa Maynard you all should come in Venice Murano island which is tho mother of this technique since the thirteen century (1291) and where you can seestill many masters able to do the same and more. I think this master spent a lot of time in Murano or with a good Murano Master.
Please put another view of the finished piece of art at the end of the videos, so we can see it with new, educated eyes and realized ow much was done to make it look that way

@@Kittymouth Probably a bit late on this one, but gloves impair your ability to detect whether something is really hot before grabbing on to them, and just generally make you clumsy
Filigrana is the generic name for blown glass made with colorless, white, and sometimes colored canes, while reticello is a type of blown glass made with canes organized in a crisscross pattern to form a fine net, which contains tiny air traps (bubbles). Reticello is a type of filigrana - specifically colorless and white canes that are organized in a crisscross pattern with the bubbles.
The end product is shown at the start. I wasn't expecting it to be that big, he called it both a bowl and a cup, either way it's a good size for my booze 🤣
The image shown in the beginning is in fact NOT the piece being crafted in the video. It's the original pierce on which their basing their recreation. So we are indeed not being shown the finished piece, shame. I bet you could get some beautiful stills out of it from several angles...

Yes, and yes. If it's over inflated, the glass will most likely cool too quickly and break.
