    They both sound killer to me but I think I like the multi a little better my self ..

    My multi watt is definitely the best sounding and feeling high gain amp I have. The cleans are good as well.

    Nice demo, I really like the switching back and forth between each amp as you change the knobs, etc. I prefer the newer Multi-watt version personally. It just sounds more alive to me.

    That Rev G sounds so good. They get reasonably close but that G sounds more aggressive and open.

    Out of all the Rectifiers that I've owned, my Rev G Triple Rec is the one I keep. Anytime I consider parting with I just plug in and remember why I keep it.

      @@belligerentamateur Probably a sad, jealous poseur who can’t afford sick Mesa Dual Rec amps & can’t play anything too loud in their parents’ basement.

    I used to have a Reborn 3-Channel triple rec, now I have a 1997 Rev-G and I must say, the Reborn absolutely sucked next to it, it was so congested and boomy. The Rev-G I have now is a lot brighter, it does have a certain hollowness in the mids but I feel like that’s what makes the true Rectifier tone: massive and brutal but with that sort of evil low growl, not a spiky amp, more grindy if anything. I recently recorded a live pre-prod just my amp with rehearsal / live settings, into a mic’d oversized mesa recto cab with v30 speakers, it sounded absolutely massive, a lot different than on this video (I boost mine with a « gain at zero » distortion pedal.

    I feel like these comparisons blow apart some of the bs that surrounds the Rev G Mesa amps and how much more "magical" they are. They sound really similar to me.

    • @artvandelay2111
      @artvandelay2111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think what you're failing to realise is that most guitarists listen with their eyes.... and not their ears.

      @@artvandelay2111 This is true. One time I tuned into the middle of a Tone Wars livestream where he was comparing a bunch of amps. There was a Friedman off to his right and I typed in "Man this Friedman is sounding killer". Turns out it was a Mesa JP2C that was off screen. Guilty as charged lol.

    • @BeautifulGuitars365
      @BeautifulGuitars365 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve owned both, they do sound similar but different. There’s no “better” but they both have their own sound so if you like the Rev G sound then that’s the one you want.

    • @themodernguitarist
      @themodernguitarist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you had a 2000 - 2009 3-channel Recto, I think the comparison would be more apart. The 2010 multi-watt seems to be tuned closer to the older 2-channel ones.

    Hi Kyle, outstanding videos. I have a question and a request. I see that you use the Radial Engineering Headbone VT Tube Amp Head Switcher and I was wondering if you can compare it to the Mesa Boogie Head-Track Head and FX Loop Switcher. Can you tell me your opinion on the Tonebone? Thanks man.

    Do you think two versions of multiwatt sounds very different? The “vintage” version has one switch to choose raw, vintage or modern mode, the last version has two switch (add one to choose watts). I think the last one sounds better. Sorry, my English is not perfect.

    The Multiwatt definitely has more fizz “hi-fi”like sound with an upper mid spike. The Rev G sounds a little rounder, rawer, and
    more organic sounding.

  • @mmhutchinson
    @mmhutchinson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t miss my dual rec it was a 3 channel non multi watt! It was not agressive at all. My palm muting was so flubby even with the bass at 0 mids 5.5 and treble 5 presence was always at like 6.5-7.
    Goes to show me that all Mesa amps ain’t the same.

      When I plugged my amp into a power conditioner, it all stopped. I run a noise gate in 4 cable method and a power conditioner and she’s so quiet she’ll give you a heart attack if you touch a string (because it doesn’t sound on till you play).

      On the red channel of the 2 channel too, but the presence is boosted from the loss of negative feedback so it kinda works out the same.

    Must be sad to be a guitar player where 95 percent of your playing is power chords, fourths, fifths, the occasional octave, and of course, pig squeals. Such a limited point of view of such a versatile instrument.
